Nikki, I was so surprised at the end of the video when you were disappointed in your taping and editing. I was so interested in this video, and my adrenaline was off the charts. This is the first time I've watched a UA-cam video twice. I love how you and Jason treat the pup. So much respect for your sailing knowledge. You are ROCKING IT!
Some shakedown issues: 1) The main halyard should be tied to the mainsail's head. Good - It is. 2) The top car should be tied to the mainsail's head just like the others. It is not. It should be, but check with the boat's manufacturer for their recommendation. Note: You mentioned in a previous video the old car "broke out." While you replaced the car, unless you take additional steps, it could happen again. 3) When the boom vang is too taught, particularly when you're close-hauling past optimum, the tension imparted to the leach from the clew to the head can be immense, enough to rip the top car out of its track. I suspect that's what happened. Fix: Reduce tension on the boom vang. 4) Heading up in balanced sails is a sign of close-hauling past optimum. Fix: Sheet out. It's normal for a trimaran to be a bit more sensitive to wind/sail pressure than a catamaran or a monohull. The trick is to avoid going for max performance and instead set both sails at or near optimum, but most importantly, balanced for your apparent wind angle. Pressure on the rudder (and autopilot) should be minimal. Finally, my father's best advice: "Always use a torque wrench." He spent 26 years in aviation maintenance, and always kept 'em flying, safely, so I'm fairly certain he knew what he was talking about. He's the reason I've done all the maintenance on my own vehicles since high school.
It's a square top main. Likely their first time sailing with one. It's designed with that system so the top batten lays flat in the sail bag (it's sewn in at an angle to support the square top). Sounds like they needed an orientation or more skill. Blaming the boat is pretty low, esp. when they're getting paid by the competition (HH).
I thought the SAME thing, I was like wait a minute, she's that literal BAD A$$. Such a great idea, have some people jump aboard. Keep doing the work Kara.
Ahoy Wynns! You have a new business. Take hold of people's New Sailboat ⛵ and figure out what is wrong all while sharing the issues to the world. Sunday coffee with the Wynns never disappoints. Getting to meet Kara made this episode one to remember. She is one tough cookie and an inspiration. Finally, Neel really missed the mark by not flying in their best crew to work out all the issues with the boat after your first episode aired. The dingy set up and the continued rigging problems do not reflect well on them.
Neel leaves a bit to be desired in terms of presentation. Good boat design, lots of potential, but it's the details, that little bit of perfectionism, that is lacking.
@@mdaddyclimb As I said, I'm not talking about sailing ability. I'm talking about finishes. The Wynns have been fixing things since they've got there. Sailing Ruby Rose showed the problems the Neel had at the boat show.

Think the line is set wrong, have the same on my Lagoon 42, it goes from tip, to the ring, back to the tip and then down, so it force the top of the sail to the mast. Then the ring also goes all way up 😉
What a nightmare that was! All of it! There is nothing worse than being sick on a boat and having to wait it out. I hope you get the boat in better working order for your next sail!
What do you do if the dog has to go to the bathroom? Right when you say “It can’t get any worse” that’s when you find out just exactly how bad it can be! Kara you’re a trooper girl! Don’t be hard on yourself. And we never found out the results of the great dishwasher debate!!
Just so this girl knows, transderm scope, scopolomine the patch works like a miricle. I have a gf who gets sick in cars, trains and planes.but dies on boats. Not anymore.she rocks and rolls with the patch. You can get in canada but not usa.
I tried Scopolamine once and it made it look like the non-skid in my peripheral vision was crawling. Meclizine works great for me though. Curious what Kara tried.
Hi Kara. If it helps at all my first night sail from S Wales to Dublin Ireland 8 yrs ago i experienced the worst seasickness possible. We still bought a boat ( my wife is the sailor) and sailed it from Europe across to the Caribbean and am now in Marseden Cove NZ. Never got sick again. Hope you don’t give up the sailing and give it another try. You just never know. Good luck Steve Supertramp
I’ve heard that at Day 3, those plagued by seasickness often acclimate and are fine. So short sails are brutal, while longer passages allow for the calm AFTER the storm to carryon and enjoy, and hopefully forget how brutal the first two days were! But I’ve also heard that coffee is most definitely one of those trigger foods/drinks, that can upset the stomach of even a seasoned sailor.
Kara is amazing. Thanks for reminding me it's ok to bail. What's a loss is not to try things. As for the sailing what a pain! I do believe you will work out all the kinks soon enough. But I realize,...that can't be soon enough probably as far as your concerned! Thanks again for another interesting video and lesson in life.
Chock up another reason to love you two! ❤❤ I felt your empathy and kindness from here in cold, cold Canada. Also, Jason seemed to say voilà correctly! Many Americans will say this word with a ‘w’ instead of ‘v’, but Jason nailed it. Woohoo! ❤❤
Feel badly for Kara’s sea sickness. When I was a flight attendant & flying injured after concussions, was terribly motion sick nearly every flight. Scopolamine patches did lessen but it was not solved till my bright PT performed an Epley Maneuver on me to realign the crystals involving balance in my ears. That was two decades ago and have had zero motion sickness since. Just a thought for Jason as well as Kara. There are diy instructions via John’s Hopkins and others online. Hope that this helps!
Excellent video, as always. Sailing is a lot like life, though speeded up…lots of issues, decisions, and dealing with things-but once you get it pretty close to right, it’s glorious! Keep up the great work, not only sailing but getting footage and editing-you guys tell a fascinating story in a fun way, week after week. Thanks!
Hi Nikki & Jason! Loved seeing you both, meeting the crew, & the dogs expressions were cute/ Hope you both have a good week. Looking forward to next week.
For Kara's lack of motion sickness tolerance, I had the privilege in the Civil Air Patrol of giving young cadets their 1st rides in small airplanes (they get at least 7 experiences at piloting from the right seat). I remember one cadet in high school that had great difficulty who's goal was to enter the Airforce academy & fly fighter jets. He was throwing up in every flight but persevered through the process and did become tolerant with time, eventually entering the academy & achieved his goal. Don't give up yet, take time to rest then get back in the saddle & try again, building time without pressure of having to stay in that unknown environment while miserable. The newness of the sensations can eventually become their new normal with determination.
I also get motion sick and once spent a weekend on a cruiser in calm waters and it triggered a migraine in addition to seasickness which added to the experience. No fun. I watch this channel since I am a land farer by necessity but love seeing what is out there in the world. Kara and Joe…..thank you for boarding the vessel and letting us get to know you!
It is weird watching these videos with y'all there right outside Comanche Cove, as my wife teaches (ASA) sailing runs charters for Saint Augustine Sailing.

What a cool buddy :) Kara, you are a hero and I am so touched at how you didn't let the darker side of life drag down! What an amazing woman you are, KEEP ON DOING WHAT YOU DO! Show the world that you are made of diamonds!
That's a sophisticated boat with some deck hardware placement issues, a sail that wasn't put back on the way it needs to go and dinghy davits that need modification.Unfamiliarity and lack of experience with similar boats, new guests, seasickness and camera embarrassment add to the problems. All fixable - fret not! We're with you in your temporary misery. The cute boat dog doesn't care. I would love to see that boat fly when the issues are resolved. Earl from Vancouver BC
This turns out to be the video I needed today to help me cope with my own need to bail. I’ve been a full time scholar for 38 years. But right now I need a non scholarly side hustle to complement my freelance business or I will lose my house and starve. I won’t be flipping burgers, but not doing what I expected a PhD and more than a decade at the Smithsonian to get me. There are some hot possibilities, but not soon enough. I’m so ashamed. So I’m sitting here crying and trying to forgive myself for bailing, for what I hope won’t be more than a few months. Thank you for helping me to understand my own tough situation. I know others have things far worse.
Don't think of it as bailing. You made decisions to get you where you are. Now, in these circumstances, you need to make new best decisions. In the future, there will be new decisions. It is smart to be able to alter your course when the wind has changed.
Honest work is honorable work. Always, always, always. Also, the failure of expectations, is the expectation. We hope, we work, we strive, etc., but "expectation" is most often merely the unseen yoke that will prevent us from surpassing life's hurdles. It stifles creativity, limits us, narrows our view. It seems it's now burdening you with unnecessary and counter-productive shame. Did you hurt anyone? Of course not! Frustration? Sure. Disappointment? Painfully. But no shame. Btw, I've known many far more intelligent and society-beneficial 'burger-flippers' than some scholars, tbh. May you find value wherever you seek it. Good luck!
I feel for Kara I get motion sickness so easy. You try to talk yourself through it but it never works. It’s so strange how some of us get sick so easy and then there is my sister who doesn’t even understand when I explain how I feel, she has never had motion sickness in her life. I think she could hang upside down and never feel a thing. I on the other hand, if the vehicle next to me in traffic rolls back I get nauseous.
The story of Kara Robinson, a 15-year-old girl who, thanks to her self-control, freed herself after being kidnapped by a murderer, was covered in the press even in my country (Poland). God only knows how many lives she saved because her testimony ended his "career." I hope she had fun sailing. :-)
What does that dinghy hoist attach to? I've sailed on a Voyage catamaran that stows the dinghy in a similar way - but the hoist goes over a sheave on the end of a boom extension that slides out from the end of the boom. That way the lifting is vertical, then when the dinghy is up high enough the extension is retracted so the dinghy can be lowered straight down. It's a really clever system that works beautifully with no boat gymnastics needed! :)
Regarding the dinghy, I think you are simply supposed to rotate the mast like a crane and put it in between the ama and the center hull. Neel has a video here: ua-cam.com/video/r4eUmcsbhQw/v-deo.html
If it were easy it wouldn't feel so rewarding at the end. Experience is what you get, often, when you don't get what you want. It's a first world problem though! Best from Anthony in AK, NZ!
We love following you guys. We started watching when you were in the bounder motor home. You played a part in our inspiration to RV full time for 2 1/2 years. You now have us itching for a boat but not sure a sail boat. Thank you for what you do. Can we get your AG1 code?
Holy Moly some snarky commenting today. Clearly some of these viewers feel entitled to only see the easy and romantic moments of sailing. In reality, those moments are few. It is only through all of the work and struggles that you experience the richness of those moments. Experiencing sailing without the work is just a nice boat ride, void of the triumph of empowering the boat to do its performing. How crazy would it be to not mention the kinks if working out the kinks is the purpose of the mission. Geez Luis!
My wife and I are super curious what meds Kara tried. We did a charter in Exumas last year and brought meclizine which works great. Bought offered some seasick passengers ginger and acupressure wrist bands which are useless!
Conspiracy theories abound. Being at Port Canaveral, did Astronauts really walk on the moon? Did the Wynn’s really push off from the dock? Meanwhile, God Bless Kara, who is an inspiration. ❤️. Thanks for taking us along!
NO SHAME in seasickness. It is the worst. First you're afraid you're going to die then you're afraid you aren't. Almost everyone will suffer to some degree under the right conditions. Major props for giving it a go.
Because I grew up on Disney movies, I'm pretty that at some point that dog is going to start talking. She's got that look. Rather than a delivery, this seems to be more of a shakedown cruise.
Supernova rounding up would mean the mainsheet is to tight. I could not really tell what position it was in while you were sailing. Hope you have some great sailing.
I'm no sailor but I am a big cruiser. I'd sail with you in a heartbeat. If getting it up is hard being married to Nikki you need to see a Dr ASAP. Lol If you are stopping in Cape Canaveral, drop me off. I'll jump on Carnival Mardi Gras for a week.
I'm getting the sense that the owners of this boat knew there were issues and didn't want to deal with figuring it out. So...they're letting the Wynn's figure it out. And I also get the sense that the Wynn's weren't in on it. This is much more work than a boat delivery. I hope Jason and Nikki are compensated appropriately for all their efforts and stress they have endured.
This sea sickness problem is a big deal for me. So far no problems and that was on a little crab boat. That boat should have been a lot better but if I do this I've got to be able to handle a monohull.
Great video. Towards the end when you were talking about all the trials that you guys had gone through, it just proves that things happen, and we do whatever is needed to keep moving forward. In life we are dealt with so many uncertainties. It's how we pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off is what counts. Even if we have to realize it's ok to Bail sometimes. Hopefully we are able to see the sun come up tomorrow and work on our objectives. Thanks for another great video and learning moment.
Cant remember when I have felt so. Ad for 9:37 someones disappointment? Joe is a good man for sticking with Kara when she had to leave but I’m pretty sure she would be fine with him getting another shot at living his dream! You gotta make it happen for Joe. Get him back on the boat for a few days!! Don’t know about others but I was disappointed in missing seeing him fulfill his dream. He is a cool guy and clearly a good man! Reward him as only you guys can do! Cant forget disappointment on on his face. I dont know the story about Kara but I will soon!
Many people have commented the same and Kara replied several times, saying that she tried to get him to stay but he wouldn't. He's a devoted hubby for sure. Curious Minion
Great video, great people. Only you know what is missed, we enjoy what we see, and have no idea what we missed, only you do! I get motion sick on the ocean also, but survived a ferry trip from Washington to Haines Alaska by laying down when in open water, but most was inland waterway which was much like a lake.
What a shame it is not configuered. I was looking forwasd to seeing how it sailed. But my set up would always include a boom rolling system. Less lines and ease of furling. 👍

There are valuable insights and lessons there and I am glad you shared it and hope that others get some valuable takeaways from it, as well as checking her content out.

I had a real Supernova Trimaran in my fluffy youth ... and it sailed perfectly.
Incredible story Kara. GOD BLESS and a safe future. WYNNS thanks so much for your compassion and understanding.
She is the cutest
puppy dog....
Kara…you get a total pass on the motion sickness cause you are a 100% BADASS!
I believe Knysna and St. Francis use the same design as well. Wonder if this Neel has the same system and they were unaware that boom extends. Cheers
@mountaindweller9118 I did some searching and other Neel 51s seem to have the same "issue". Would be such an elegant fix! 😉
@@bobcaverly Interesting! Would make life easier for sure. Cheers
It's in the description box of this vid for sure: ua-cam.com/video/bQomEOalHsM/v-deo.html

Reminds me of the movie Mother! 2017
I agree with Yoshi!
Geez Luis!
Throw the curling iron overboard
Watching your video's reminds me that the best thing I ever did was sell the boat..!
Lovely video!
My wife and I are super curious what meds Kara tried. We did a charter in Exumas last year and brought meclizine which works great. Bought offered some seasick passengers ginger and acupressure wrist bands which are useless!
Seasickness for me is about 3 days. I medicate then mostly after the 3 days I'm good.
Conspiracy theories abound. Being at Port Canaveral, did Astronauts really walk on the moon? Did the Wynn’s really push off from the dock? Meanwhile, God Bless Kara, who is an inspiration. ❤️. Thanks for taking us along!
"Honey, we have to coordinate." 🤣
Hunt down those squeaks!!!
That would be my first order for the crew 😜
YEP.
I looked up Kara's story. What an amazing history of courage and intelligence. So glad you introduced me to her.
Seeing Jason in bed next to Yoshi is a clear indication that y'all need a sailing puppy!!
Movie "The Girl Who Escaped" Then Documentary after movie
Getting sea leg's can be a 2 week prosse depending on sea conditions yea sorry to see them go , inspirational girl wow :)
NO SHAME in seasickness. It is the worst. First you're afraid you're going to die then you're afraid you aren't. Almost everyone will suffer to some degree under the right conditions. Major props for giving it a go.
I sympathize Kara. Coffee makes my motion sickness worse. I am glad it worked for you.😊
Ha that was only acceptable once the boat stopped rocking.
Amazing video and echoing others about being privileged by your guest. That pup though. What a wee star!
If the boat has such huge weather helm in normal conditions like that it's more fundamental than just a trim issue.......
That’s what she said! 😜
What's the date for pick-up for the brand new boat?

How can nobody comment that Joe looks like a young Norm Abram???
Love you guys! You are just classy good people and. Not in any kind of high horse or basically just flexing (like some other sailing channels)
Good morning from Ft Lauderdale!
Lyle Lovett hair!!
What kind of dog is this? He's adorable!
Yosh is such a well behaved pupper, especially for a boat dog!
On a more serious note, Kara's tale was particularly moving and inspiring. There are valuable insights and lessons there and I am glad you shared it and hope that others get some valuable takeaways from it, as well as checking her content out.
"Getting it up"...just get a couple of push poles. Then you won't have to lay down to "get it up."
Jason says it hard to get it up! I saw what he was trying to do, I’m not a sailor but I could think of easier ways! But then, Women are better at thinking these things out! Lol!
Is that a carbon mast?
Its just my opinion, but would you let somebody take your boat out for a weeks or two .
What we don't see, we don't know. Don't beat urslf up about it.
See the dishwashers getting a good workout 😉
