Hi again nice video I just thought the 200 henries seemed high for as single ended transformer. The Hashimoto you pointed out is a push pull unit not a single ended one which are usually around 20 henries or so depending on the pri. impedance. So the Edcor and the Hammond don't look as bad by comparison. Regards Lou.
I could get an audio none 10k 50w transformator for cheap. But the secondaries are only 4 ohm and 8 ohm. Would i be better of getting the edcor with 16 ohm for 16 ohm speakers? Regards Nils
You can easily make a 4 ohms speaker into an 8 ohms speaker. What you have to be careful is the high ohmage of the speaker if the loudspeaker is going into high ohms this causes excess plate current and stress on the coil Windings of the transformer to overheat. I would have my speakers at 12 ohms and tapped at 16ohms Just had a quick look on RS Components, transformer v78a01f 4 8 16 ohms, at 25w output, £57.14p says suitable with el34 valves primary impedance 5.6 kohms maximum frequency response 20Hz-40kHz
Thank you John for the OPT recommendation! Folks, living in / near UK, this is a nice choice! ; ) Checked it out, and it's a push-pull iron. Will not work for our project, but good value choice for push-pull projects. Seems RS Components do not have any SE iron. : ( Well, I goofed up as well, and in the video the Hashimoto is also a PP iron, which will not work for us, we have to scroll down for the SE iron ;). We need more sleep, lol.
@@IDontExist14 It's a push pull iron. Push pull transformers do not work for single ended, as they do not have an air gap and as a result they run the iron into saturation - basically, the transformer is clipping the entire time.
@@realworldaudio oh , I have seen a few videos online praising it for being cheap and being almost comparable to high end transformers , I will send u a pdf on another tube amp , some audiophile friend suggested it , so are the videos on this transformer for tube is all BS and snake oil , it's really hard for new audiophiles to not get confused and misguided by all the reviewers out there , any good person who can be trusted , like you
Thanks, very informative and useful for newbies like me 👍
Glad it was helpful!

@@realworldaudio so is it a no for this transformer, frequency response seems good tho

@@IDontExist14 Which OPT are you talking about? YT mixes up the post order, and I don't see which iron you are referring to.
