Probably got it by watching the guy working the gate. They should put a shroud over that so you can't see him.
+Mark - I was gonna say the same thing!!! I pride myself with my starts and would definitely try to get that gate position.......just say'n...Also noticed on a certain right hand turn, the inside markers don't seem to "matter".....AMAZING RIDING though and very "smart racing".....

jason lawrence made a really good point of 250 2 stroke vs 250f. while the 2 stroke is overall a faster/more fun bike to ride, a 250f becomes better to ride late in the moto when the track gets real bumpy/rutty.

Motocross racers are the most aerobically fit of all athletes. Not to mention hanging on to a screaming two stroke in the dirt isn’t for wimps. If you have never raced, believe me, it’s a work out.

Brandon Morin, you are correct sir. I have ridden a YZ250 2 stroke for a 1 hour Iron Man GP race, and even a 2 hour hare scramble. I couldn't feel my arms at the end. LOL

try riding 40min. plus two laps like we did in the 70's. saddleback park, carlsbad raceway, unidilla just to mention a few. you would come in from a moto and slide your hands off the bars instead of opening up your hands and hope the feeling would come back before the next moto.
Ha, tell me about it. Carlsbad was one of my stomping grounds. In the Summer, I would stand in the showers, full gear, and soak myself before the start of a moto. After the moto, you would literally have to peel your fingers off the bars, and I rode Pro ATV in the 80's and 90's, so it was even worse for us. Carlsbad Freeway was a killer for arm pump.

brandon, try running two 40min plus 2 after running qualifying heats at tracks like carlsbad or undilla like we did in the 70s and 80s. we got less air than the riders of today but the tracks were just as narley. that track looks like the l.a. freeway. try doing the same thing on a 500 cc honda two strock under the same conditions i just stated.

Except for the fact he keeps chopping off in the corners partly because his lines are too tight sometimes, he needs to work on keeping his momentum going through the turns. Some of the turns he is coming in too much on the inside line, if he utilized the the track a bit more and used a slightly wider entry line he would have more flow and momentum.

I think his goggles weren't feeling right, I was wondering the same thing. When something like that bugs you it can distract you for the rest of the race... that's my take anyway.

those were not 450's they were 100% 250f's... you can hear the difference in the way they rev the shit out of them

I feel that with the 250 two strokes in to he 250 four stroke class it encourages more two strokes. I mean it's a no brainier really 250 2 vs 250 4

Yeah I agree your turns are killing you but I wouldn't say slide into then with the rear brake instead try to use the Trans to slow then rev and pop your clutch when the time is right the thing about two strokes is you have to carry alot of your momentum into the corners so you stay in the power band I noticed this especially in the one right hand turn with the two Camel humps you were basically bogging out bad each time looking for your gear Good ride tho bro

I know this is a super old video but I see all the props and respect comments for hanging on to a 250 for 20 minutes and getting 3rd against 250fs! This man did nothing special he is an above average rider but think about RC in 2001 or 2002 when he went 24-0 on a 250 2 stroke against 450s and even a few ktm 525s for 30 minutes +2 the years before that everyone had to ride a 2 stroke for 30 plus 2. Sean Hamblin deserves more respect than this guy for racing 250 2 stroke in ama nationals and getting top 5s and 10s against 450s than this dude, and I'm saying with no disrespect ment but just dropping facts.

with the modern technology with fuel injection in dirtbikes, it wouldnt surprise me to see a 250f keep up with a 250 2 smoke
