CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Kirk (William Shatner) fights hand-to-hand with Kruge (Christopher Lloyd).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
When last we left the crew of the star ship Enterprise, they were heading home following a skirmish with the despotic Khan. The unpleasant incident had cost the life of Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy)--or so it seemed. Admiral Kirk (William Shatner) is informed by Spock's father Sarek (Mark Lenard) that his son is being kept alive in the thoughts of one of the crew members. It now becomes necessary to search for Spock's body, so that flesh and soul can be rejoined on Vulcan. It turns out that Spock's spirit is residing within the mind of the Vulcan's longtime shipmate, "Bones" McCoy (DeForrest Kelley). Finding the body is another matter, since the Enterprise has been consigned to the trash heap and thus is out of Kirk's jurisdiction.

Kirk even at his wits end still tries to save someone who wants to kill him speaks volumes on his nobility. Reaching the breaking point he must do what he needs to. I remember how the audience cheered at this scene. Quite a moment
To be fair, as far as Kirk knew, he needed Kruge to get off Genesis
That was why later on Kirk became mistrustful of the Klingons for some time- not only they killed his son, but also that Kruge took advantage of him when he tried to extend an olive branch. At the point, Kirk lost all faith in Kruge, and probably the Klingons as a whole, and did what had to do- turn death into a fighting chance to live once again!
me too. this was a lot of fun in the theater. they were perfectly portrayed hero and villain imo. kruge was super formidable. and unlike khan, apparently more in control of his emotions. but also, completely crazy
This is what star trek has lost
Think about the fact that Picard, who hates & fears the borg more than anyone, still couldn't bring himself to exterminate the race entirely when at the time they were actively trying to end the human race as we know it and were practically unstoppable
This scene is a testament to Kirk's strength of character; he does not kill his enemies unless absolutely necessary. Even when he has every seeming justification (the murder of his son, the threat to his life and those of his friends, the destruction of the Enterprise) and is more than capable, he does not seek vengeance, and does not take life until the choice sees him standing--quite literally, in this case--on the edge of an abyss. Parallel this with his battle with Khan; he had the Reliant dead to rights, and would not take the killing shot, as there is no honor in destroying a defenseless adversary. The same can be said of his duel with the Romulans in "Balance of Terror"; despite their brazen incursion of Federation space, the loss of several outposts and their crews, and severe damage to the Enterprise, Kirk still offered to save the Romulans before their vessel foundered. Kirk was also magnanimous in victory; he did not gloat over his conquests, and in some cases (such as the aforementioned Romulan duel) he even lamented the loss of his foes. Though, in the case of Kruge, I think we can allow Kirk his final wrathful words, given the circumstances.
this is an aspect of a hero in the mythos that has been completely mishandled in the incarnations that came after kirk imo. very well articulated on your part
he's been cheesily rendered as wanton rule breaker and reckless opportunist, when inside the mythos, it is understood those are more characterizations by adversaries and critics, who don't understand the nobility of the person. misunderstood by other characters and by subsequnet writers apprently
Fun fact: The scene was supposed to have huge boulders bursting up from the ground, but on the day of shooting, the boulders failed to work and they filmed the final battle without them. However one of the worked correctly (the one that propelled Kurge into the air at the beginning of the fight)
Jesus, I didn't knew this "Fun Fact" thing is over a decade old.
Captain Kirk had the high ground.
Christopher Lloyd's bird of prey was what time traveled in the very next movie!
"now Kirk, when this baby hits warp 8.8, you're gonna see some serious shit!"
Underrated comment!
Damn. It never occurred to me until now.
"My name is Darth Vader. I am an extraterrestrial from the planet Vulcan."
Kruge: if you're gonna build a time machine into a starship, why not do it with some style?
“Let’s see you bastards do warp 9.”
You can really see, how much fun Lloyd had in his role.
According to Star Trek 3: the search for spock's trivia section on imdb, he said Kruge was one of his favorite roles
Isn't that the same actor from doc in back to the future
@@christrembley5877 Yes, it's Christopher Lloyd.
He makes a great Klingon.
Yeah, Kruge is a solid role for Christopher Lloyd. One has to remember that his typecasting is in more comedic roles, so roles like Kruge, Master Xehanort of the Kingdom Hearts series (quite fitting, since Leonard Nimoy was Xehanort's first voice actor before he died) and especially Who Framed Roger Rabbit's Judge Doom are against type for him. And in all roles, he did a great job.
"GIVE ME GENESIIIIIIS!!"
Damn, Kruge must be a HUGE SEGA FAN
Kruge must've been a huge fan of Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel and Mike + the Mechanics too!
Dan Taylor i can see kruge and his fellow klingons doing I can't dance, it would be hilarious.
***** And I can see Khan and his men in the same hilarious situation as well.
He's been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, he really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. He thinks Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.
If Kruge corporate then He would had the secret of Genesis instead leaving himself and sacrificing himself along with the Vulcan and Kirk on an planet that destroy itself and that is usable killing himself and two people (which is two more prisoners he could of had) around him.
Where he's going he don't need roads.
Grethor.
He's all yours ferryman Kortar, take him to Grethor!
Does anyone else think it's ABSOLUTELY FREAKING BADASS that Kirk attempted to pull Kruge to safety despite him killing his son? Aaand then the jerk tried to yank him off a cliff and couldn't even do that right. Oh yeah, we've had enough of him.
kalaong Kirk still has some humanity in him to try to save the guy who ordered his son dead versus Kruge, who was blinded by the vain attempt to harness the power of Genesis to the point where it got him killed eventually. Kirk was beyond fed up at that point, hence kicking him into the lava.
+CaptHawkeye The klingon bastard killed his son.
I guess had kruge survived, he probably would have tried for treason for violating the klingon high council
@@chrispeplinski7306 his was a black op. The first rule of black ops: get caught you're disavowed/given up/deny your existence.
Kruge got caught.
@@chrismc410 Interestingly, in the sequel the Klingon Ambassador didn't really deny this blac op, instead he tried to twist the events in his own favor. But when Sarek confronted him with the real facts (destruction of the Grissom, David's death etc.), he justified the black op by arguing the Klingons had the right to preserve their race.
_"Give me Genesis!"_
Would you like a Sega CD with that?
And a 32X?
"I, HAVE HAD, ENOUGH OF *YOU!*" Those are the exact same words I said to my ex-wife when I signed the divorce papers, weird.
This literally made me bust out loud laughing LOL. Thank you!
+The Lawnmower Man If only there was a river of lava flowing through the courtroom.
Come on guy, relaaaaaaax
Lol
You kick her off a cliff too?
I know there were regularly occurring Klingons in the Original Series & that they were seen in the motion picture, but it was Christopher Lloyd who set the standard for Klingons that would follow.
This movie defined the Klingons in a lot of ways. From the Bird of Prey to Marc Okrand's language, this was when "Star Trek" started to take Klingons seriously.
@@cubdukat actually the Klingon Language was created in the Motion Picture. But it's accurate to say that TMP, III, TNG, VI and onward helped create the Klingons we know and love today.
@@cubdukat Yep, they stopped treating them as thuggish villains of the week and made them into a real and dangerous threat.
Terrific fight scene! Shatner and Lloyd are excellent, one of the best scenes in the film.
GIVE ME GENESIS!!!
*Krik throws his bible at him*
I wish he would have done that it would have been hilarious.
Then he threw a Sega at him.
A Hyundai Genesis Car.
This fight is soo 1980´s and i love it :)
This was the very first time since the movie franchise that had Kirk fight off an enemy with bear hands like the original series.
You're right! Of the Trek movies, this one felt the most like the tv show. Excellent movie with some of the best scenes in any Trek movie or tv show.
Im surprised that no one has brought up the fact that the klingon saying, "I do not deserve to live" is actor John Larroquette from the old Night Court series.
Me too.
But it's probably because Maltz wasn't in this particular clip.
And another Klingon is played by Branscombe Richmond aka the Indian boss on "Renegade"
I was melted today!
"You _fool!_ Look around you! The planet's destroying itself!"
"Yes! Exhilarating, isn't it?" 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
Klingons...
If we don't help each other, we'll die here.
This is the movie where Kirk is most like he was in TOS, including some Kirk-fu. Shatner is great in this movie, carries it all by himself with no Spock to interact with.
I like when Kirk gets beamed up.
Klingon: “I do not deserve to live.”
Kirk: “Fine. I’ll kill you later.”
Then, later on when Kirk sends him to the brig.
“WAIT! You SAID you would kill me.”
‘I lied.’
Dave TheRave man, for Klingons. Dishonored is much worst than death..
There is one problem with this scene and that is the transporter Klingon should have recognized the different voice unless you want to blame it on the background noise of the planet exploding.
That Klingons who didn't deserve to live was played by John larroquette from night Court
Certainly a different tone han ToS's usual 'Beam-up, summary of what happened, pan out whole everyone laughs'
"It's over Kruge! I have the high ground!"
"YOU UNDERESTIMATE MY POWER!"
Doc Brown's earlier days before time traveling!
Benjamin Agaoglu He never landed in the lava, we just saw him hit 88 while falling.
Great Scott!
And, before he was a klingon, Doc Brown was a pothead taxi driver.
His Bird of Prey has time travel capabilities in the next movie
Probably he'll drive a taxi cab instead of designing the time machine. 😆😆😆😆
I miss this Kirk so much, one that actually knew how to fight.
1:56-2:02 me talking to disney live action remakes
Most epic statement ever done with true physical meaning !
1:15 Kirk has the best screams XD
The wrath of khan and the search of spock are the best star trek movies from the 80s
Thanos: “I am inevitable”
Kirk: “I...have had....enough of you!” (Kicks Thanos off cliff)
One of Captain Kirk's greatest moments, bar none.
As a lot of people here say, it's a testament to Kirk's character that, even though David was killed, he still tried to save Kruge's life.
you see how kirk had to make sure he really dies in lava watched him go all the way he had a flashback to Kahn...didn't want that guy popin back up 15 years later with a grudge ha make sure the fools dead
Capt. Kirk is the best captain in Star Trek. He's not afraid of fighting. That's a true warrior.
Courtney Gibson Amok Time Fight Scene Music should be added here!!!!
+Courtney Gibson And he is not afraid to wear pink.
@@Brokephi316 Dun dun dun dun dunnn dun dun dunnn dun dundundundundundundundun... BrrrrrrrdtdtdtDA! BrrrrrrdtdtDA!
@BIGWORM 510 You don't know a thing about Star Trek. In nearly every instance where Kirk charms a woman in the old series, he's either 1) hopelessly in love with her or 2) trying to rescue his friends by playing the part usually played by a seductive girl Friday character. Someone who thinks Kirk was a player = someone who knows nothing about Star Trek.
That is literally the exact opposite of the reason why Kirk is good. In this scene, he tries hard _not_ to fight Kruge, and only gives Kruge the fight he wants to save Spock. In the end, with his enemy at his mercy, he tries to get Kruge to safety, and when Kirk's "had enough", it's because Kruge is going to kill them both. And Kruge had Kirk's son killed that same day.
1:57 Me dealing with depression.
I... AM... ACTING!
Filip Önell well the fight is more organic than almost any other hand to hand fight that appears in cinema today and thats saying something
@@Timeward76 I like this movie fine but... come _on_ dude
@@MegaZeta Well... It looks like it wasn't massively coreographed. Even if its somewhat... How do we say? Locked joint?

Misconception that Shatner is a bad actor
I WAS KICKED INTO A STREAM OF LAVA TODAY!
Christopher Lloyd is a great actor
Ah, back when klingons were actually tougher than humans...
Fast-forward to many scenes of Worf in TNG.
@@right_hand_power7960 Worf was the whipping boy of TNG. Dorn deserved better.
@Kenny Delta, quite true. O'Brien Must Suffer was DS9's song. 😉
@@EdricLysharae Remember when Troi broke his wrist?
After James Kirk sent Klingon Commander Kruge to his death, he should've said "THAT WAS FOR DAVID!" on account of Kruge was responsible for ordering the murder of Kirk's only son David Marcus.
'Senior Moment' came out recently where these two played best friends.
It's weird I never see anyone mention that this is the closest we've ever had to a Goku vs Frieza fight.... It's a fistfight on a exploding planet. How can you knot make that EPIC?
That may be my favorite Kirk line ever.
@1:55 My reaction to Last 2020
To die in combat and take your enemy with you, is one of the highest ideals a Klingon could strive for. Kirk didn't understand that, because, as much time in his life he spent fighting them, he never truly understood them, or their code of honor. Archer, ironically, understood them, and was able to fan down the flames of war long before a Federation had even formed around Earth.
1:20 Gonna tell my kids this was Revenge of the Sith.
This is kind of like Star Wars 3.
Lava planets make amazing places for a final fight
1:15 Kirk has the HIGH GROUND... but then jumps down at Kruge.
You mean star wars 3 is kinda like this, George Lucas is a trekkie so he was always inspired by star trek
This movie was around since 1983
Star wars episode 3 2000s 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Star Trek: Episode III - Revenge of the Klingons
😂
Kirk and Kruge standing around with their truce to no violence. Then the planet was like "whelp I'll just yeet Kruge on top of Kirk. That outa get things going..."
This is what I like about Kirk. He's more than willing to give someone a chance to avoid a needless death but when someone shows there's just no dealing with them its over.
YOU TURNED HER AGAINST ME!
You did that yourself.
... In a terrible accident involving the time machine train in Back to the Future part 3, Doc Brown is sent forward in time to the planet Klingon homeworkd Qo'nos. There he uses his medical knowledge to genetically modify himself into a Klingon to fit in. He rises through the ranks of the KDF and eventually becomes the captain of his own ship. At least, that's my own head canon from now on.
Doc brown went so far into the future he evolved into a Klingon
Kirk fulfilled his blood oath to avenge the murder of his son.
Even the Klingon Empire has to give Kirk props for that.
@@OptmiusPrime114 they did. They ended up declaring the theft of the Bird-of-Prey a prize of honorable combat. In Generations, you see a Bat'leth in Kirk's house, I'm guessing it was probably Kruge's as it was on the Bird-of-Prey and his belongings are now Kirk's along with the ship as a prize of honorable combat.
@@chrismc410 yes you could quite easily say that because James Kirk defeated and slew Kruge in honorable single combat all his possessions were a spoil of war you could say to Captain Kirk or admiral Kirk at that point to use an old Fremen word from Dune they would be a Ghanima, which means spoil of war in that language.
At the end of every school year, I used to do this to my textbooks as a kid. I'd take them up to the top of a staircase and watch them fall
This scene was referenced in the South Park movie. Satan says the line right before he throws Saddam Hussein back into the depths of Hell where he got skewered by a stalagmite.
Satan Chose Cartman Over Saddam
2:10....that's for the enterprise.
BEST FIGHT IN ALL THE STAR TREK FILMS!
Hard to imagine Christopher Lloyd played a Klingon villain do to him often playing odd balls, but he did and did it great, he may have not had the scene chewing charisma Christopher Palmer's General Chang, but he had menacing presence mixed with ruthless and cunning and was a real threat in a very personal way to Kirk thus being very impactful.
Proof that a great fight scene doesn’t need music.
Mom: “What would you want for Christmas?”
7-year old me: 0:00
Lloyd's Kruge is shrewd at all times up until this scene. Then he just reverts to being a villain revelling in destruction and throws away his tactical advantage.
Maybe he lost his cool after losing his dog and getting tricked by Kirk so he's not thinking clearly anymore.
0:23 The perfect line to spout in World of Tanks when you're the only one left in your team, the enemy both outnumbers and out-tiers you, and they taunt at you that you're going to die very soon.
It's amazing that Christopher Lloyd hadn't even done Back to the Future at this point. He was so good in this movie.
It's over, Kruge. I have the high ground.
Man Doc Emmett Brown really wants to play Sonic
The only thing this movie was missing was a stronger score for the second half.
