- For today's video, I will be making a Blue Phoenix Tie Dye Tutorial. It was an original design by Kurt Wallace and this is my simplified version of it. Hope you like it.. Enjoy!

A nice simplified version of Kurt Wallace's design technique from Tie Dyed Skies in Columbia who deserves to be credited also for his development work in HWI (hot water irrigation).

You can tell Kurt’s work from a mile away, Richard. Meo Faustino, did a great job recreating it. I don’t think Kurt would have posted it if he wasn’t expecting other dyers to imitate his art. ❤️🌈
@@BelladonnaDyesCo I agree, and was giving kudos to Meo for simplifying the process with lovely results. I teach k-12 art and cringe when I see students display work obviously taken from elsewhere without credit, so call me sensitized. 😜
@@IronCladMultimedia Yeah, Kurts’ tutorial confuses me. He’s since reposted it on Facebook. I’m not into this type of type dye yet. Pictures aren’t my jam. I need to make tapestries before I start doing fictional animals. I had someone come at me for my Funky Spiral because I used similar colors to Fritz… I guess I’m sensitive too. It’s tie dye. We all learn from each other and share… I’d be super flattered if someone used one of my tutorials and uploaded it. I guess I’m not that good yet. 😂❤️🌈
@@BelladonnaDyesCo I've been on your youtube all summer and have learned a lot from you, I've followed along step by step with success! I'm looking at other's too, I like the way you explain techniques, how to mix dye and water and such, I teach high school art and am going to do a section on tie dye, and fiber art.. as well as tie dye as fundraiser. (I hope I get that going given that I'm in Texas and covid is really bad right now. I do want to give the kids some skills they can re-visit easily if they want to. :)

4:42 why don't you just use butterfly clips to hold your pleats together as you go instead of trying to insert that piece of black fabric I'm just saying clipping them together it's way easier
That time i don't have clips to use and I prefer using none coz I can manage. That black thing is a rubber strip to separate the color of the background and emphasize the line of wings since I'm using hot water irrigation it's hard for me to control the flow of the water. You can try what you said on your own and see the result.. this method works for me so i'll stick to that . thank you for your comment..

What kind of dyes are used for HWI?
I used a Mix of Fiber reactive dye and soda ash. ratio 1:1
