Just tried some Grand Old Par this week. I like my smoky whiskies and have two bottles of Laphroig that stashed away just before it went up to $61 a fifth in my area. But I also like scotches that are not very smoky. I really enjoyed Grand Old Par and at $24 a fifth. It stands on it's own and is a standout bargain. Cheap enough to drink on the rock, good enough to drink neat. I will keep buying it. Can't think of anything in it's price range that competes, but I have an unopened bottle of Finlaggan that could give it a run for it's money. Finlaggan is reputed to be very smoky and a single malt too.
Daniel- I manage a small liquor store and I'm *super* into wine. We've gained a reputation as THE place to go if you want to get into wine or want to broaden your appreciation of it. The problem is that the "wine" part sometimes gets dropped in word-of-mouth endorsements and people come in for guidance on their whiskey journey. I finally got tired of saying "baaaaaaahahahahahaha! No... Yeah, I have no idea... I order most of my whiskeys based on Scotchnoob's suggestions (so I assume they're probably good), but I'd rather cut out my tongue than taste test them for you. Pick a cool label and hope for the best," so I started researching whiskey and landed on your YT page. Because you make whiskey seem so complex (instead of the single hellfire note I remember from my early 20's), I have decided to train myself to appreciate whiskey like I did with wine. Even if I never enjoy it, I hope that I can at least appreciate the nuances of the spirit enough to guide my customers. This is my third night of training and the only way I've been able to persevere is by listening to a video I found earlier tonight on repeat, while I train my taste buds and stomach to ignore the pain of ~80 proof liquor. It's a video of you. Singing "Fernando." I've listened to it about twenty times while drinking the same 150mL of [redacted to avoid judgement from Daniel] mixed with ~200mL [redacted to avoid judgement from literally everyone who drinks liquor]. So, yeah. Just wanted to say thanks for singing an Abba song very well, and thank you for making these Whiskey Vault videos. Even before I started this torturous journey, the information in your videos helped me educate a couple customers on differences between certain whiskeys. Keep it up! I'll try to update you on my progress once my senses stop rejecting the lessons I'm trying to teach them.
This is awesome! Glad you love the song :-) The journey into hard liquor is a serious one on your taste buds, and not a journey for the faint of heart. We talked about this in my office yesterday, so think if it like this. If a flavor profile was a quarter and you placed 1,000 of them on the floor in a living room, you have the variations of wine. Lots of variation and a reasonable opportunity to understand the vast difference between wine varietals. With whisky, take those same 1,000 quarters and stick them on a dining room table. While it's simple to tell the difference between one side of the table and the other, the overlap between is extremely high. Variations are subtle and quick. Takes a lot more drinking to build up the reasonable pattern recognition. make sense?
It's really hard to sit through these guys videos, I must be more of a serious person than I realized. Their like friends I had in middle school that I just got tired of being around from the immaturity
This is the Venezuelan favorite. Nice taste, budget scotch, nice presentation and after three bottles, no hangover the next day ;-) Highly recommended!
I was just watching episode 70 and I think you guys should a an eye dropper of every whiskey in the vault together and see how it is. I'm sure it'll be awful but it'll be worth the watch!
HOLY COW BOYS! 1.4k! Good on you. I found you guys through modern rogue when you were at around 400, that exposure has really helped you guys shoot up. Also, I've just finished my second bottle of Glenfiddich. What next?
Hmm, I just bought this. I've never really had scotch or whisky. I've mostly done wine, beer, sake and botanical drinks like Jagermeister. Lucky me for unknowingly choosing a beginners drink.
Hi there gentlemen. I am new in to whisky and I have only tasted three different ones, ancnoc, a very smokey one that I don't know the name of and the one I bought today, the highland park 12 year old. This highland park just have to be my favorite right now. But what whisky should I continue to with a similar smokeyness? Big thanks from Sweden
Wizard Academy I will if I can get my hand over one. Thanks again, love your videos and have watched them ever since you did a cola with the modern Rouge and I can't anything negative about your videos.
Daniel, today I found about an interesting Scottish gin that's made on Islay. It's called The Botanist and they hand pick all the botanicals off the island. I don't like gin, but if I were to drink any, that would be it. Wondering if you've heard of it?
i have found a bottle of grand old parr de luxe scotch whisky and the odd writing on the label said bottled under commonwealth supervision....what does it mean?
Thoughts about Bulleit Rye? I'm a fan, but I can't drink it later than 5pm. Last time I did, I had a very strange night. I'm not sure if I was awake all night and thought I was asleep, or asleep all night and dreamed I was lying there awake. Rye sleep isn't good sleep, boys.
Great job as usual guys. Just wondering if you guys have had Sheep Dip Scotch? Saw it in a grocery store marked down for only $6.00!!! I thought I can't pass that up. I've never had a scotch whiskey before so I have no idea what I'm in for. Can't wait to try it out. Keep up the great work. What other channels do you guys have? I'd love to follow you guys are great. Happy drinking
YES! I love Sheep dip. If it was $6, you should have bought a case. Holy shit. I drink it regularly as a damn good budget blend. We'll add it in. This is our only channel for now. We're adding another soon!
Grand Old Parr is miles better than JW Black. Truth is, Grand Old Parr is probably the best scotch I've tried, including scotch that is much more expensive, and this is from someone who prefers single malt, be it bourbon or scotch. Always neat!
Could you guys do either Balvenie Doublewood 12 or Aberlour 12? Both are double cask matured, and are Speyside distilleries, and are still two of my favorites. Are these lighter-tasting whiskies more impacted by the second sherry cask, or are there other scotch regions that would benefit from a second barrel? What about non-scotch whiskies?
I 2nd the request. Local liquor store next month is having The Balvenie Malt Master David Stewart for an interactive tasting. Sample aged whiskies including The Balvenie Caribbean Cask, finished in rum casks, and DoubleWood, finished in exotic casks.
We should do an A/B on these. we've got both! I think the secondary aging/finishing is a growing trend across all whisky areas. I love it. It opens up all kinds of unique flavor possibilities.
Dudes. That’s totally crazy. I mentioned that laphroaig 10 was like French kissing Kiera knightley after eating barbecue. I had no idea you guys obsessed over her too
Hey guys, I’m super new to Whisk(e)y and for a long time it was the only alcohol I wouldn’t drink... Sorry I’m trying to make up for it now. Towards that end, I’m drinking a bit of Jameson every day since it seems to be the easiest and most friendly for me. Do you have any recommendations on the next few steps I should be taking? PS Thanks for all the laughs!
What's the no nonsense verdict on corks vs screw caps? Do you really need to polish off screw cap whiskies quicker? I really don't know how bad the seal is on a screw cap, and if I can get my whisky a little cheaper with a screw cap I don't really mind.
In my experience neither is perfect, they just have different ways of going wrong. Screw caps are on a few really tasty whiskies (especially Irish) and I've never had one be faulty. But I've had corks crumble pretty regularly. Which is why I keep corks when I throw away bottles.
It's Daniel ;-) But favorite is hard. Depends on the day, mood, etc. Here's three I love. Irish whisky - Green Spot. Bourbon - Belle Meade or Basil Hayden; Scotch - Bruichladdich Laddie
Hey guys, I really love the chemistry you both have, how long have you guys been friends for? Also any chance you can do a video on the different types of smoking methods? Like peat skeat and such? Would love to know what other interesting ways some do it. Keep up the awesome work and still looking to send you guys a good aussie whisky
Gentlemen, how's it going, I recently came across your channel in the past week and love the videos you put out. Whisky is for the most part all I drink when it comes to alcohol. But I noticed you didn't have a video on Red Handed Bourbon, which is one that I havent gotten to try yet but would like to know your opinion. Thank you for your time and keep up the good work.
Daniel, I think you're gonna have to tough it up and do a video about those flavored whiskies. It's a good opportunity for Rex to try them as well as more content for the school's channel. Just saying....
Hey you guys, i like the Videos, and myself started over some Spayside Whisky to Some Highland ones, and now it's just like to many bottles to drink them before they get to much oxygen, since i had the last Glaß of my first Whisky a few weeks ago, so like 7 Years after i bought it, But never the less, i would wish for a taste Of glenfiddich 18, which is, at the moment, the favorite of my little collection, And for me this whisky has some Oak, Apples and Honey, with something like a Oily feeling, and i would like to hear someone who can Really tell the Tastes of a whisky to tell something about it :)
Love the new whisk(e)y rating system (flick, slap, squeeze). Your antics reminded me of these www.gunsticles.com/ Perhaps they make some ice cube molds to use with whisk(e)y you can get for the reviews.

I did this exact same test and amazingly the whiskies kept getting better and btqergth
watching every episode in order ... slowly catching up... enjoying all i see so far... :)
Me too. Maybe I'll catch up to you. :-)

Old Parr is huge in Colombia. Apparently they own 51 percent of the scotch market there.
Yup Grand Old Parr and Something Special. Also, Manischewitz is considered a top shelf wine here in Colombia.

make sense?
This is actually the first bottle of Scotch I bought. Interesting to see them review it.
It's really hard to sit through these guys videos, I must be more of a serious person than I realized. Their like friends I had in middle school that I just got tired of being around from the immaturity
I feel the same.
This is the Venezuelan favorite. Nice taste, budget scotch, nice presentation and after three bottles, no hangover the next day ;-)
Highly recommended!
It really is great. Been drinking one that sat on parents cupboard for 50 years. Taste is Incredible
The last time I saw this label anywhere was back in the 70's @ $7.
I was out camping off grid up in the Dargo High Plains with a huge fire roaring
Tom laughing in the background is contagious...it is like a laugh track for a TV show😂🤣😭
Darn it you guys pointed out that he was like a laugh track; now I feel like a dweeb🤪
I was just watching episode 70 and I think you guys should a an eye dropper of every whiskey in the vault together and see how it is. I'm sure it'll be awful but it'll be worth the watch!
I'm not opposed to this.
Why hasnt this happened yet!
I tried this for the first time in Brazil and loved it. I got some when I got home and it wasn't as good but still good...
Kate Upton and I enjoy your videos very much!
She already told me, but thanks for the support =)
Rex Well played good sir.
HOLY COW BOYS! 1.4k! Good on you. I found you guys through modern rogue when you were at around 400, that exposure has really helped you guys shoot up. Also, I've just finished my second bottle of Glenfiddich. What next?
You're a whiskey hipster. Chillin' in the vault before the vault was cool.
Mmmm... Glenfiddich. the next things is ANY WHISKEY!!
You really somm'd the hell out of that recommendation...
Gotta agree with Rex on that one.
You tried Glenfarclas yet? I find it pretty interesting and very tasty.
Excellent, similar to dewars 12, i do get the JW black label now that i hear you say it
Hmm, I just bought this.
Highland Park is freaking awesome. Good call. Try out Oban 14 next. Or Deanston 12yr
Wizard Academy I will if I can get my hand over one.
Thanks again, love your videos and have watched them ever since you did a cola with the modern Rouge and I can't anything negative about your videos.
I concur. Highland Park has been one of my favorites for several months.
Rex it is really smooth and not too smokey, just a hint of it.
What whisky s do you like if you don't drink highland park?
Rex thanks a lot.
I will have a look around here in sweden and hopefully will I be able to get one =)
"I'm better than you as a person" sounds so much better with conviction.
I'm kinda a sucker for old parr. I tried it before at a friends house and loved it. He gave the bottle because he didn't like it.
My last name is Parr and I am so happy to see this video exists!
Gee! I drUnk my entire GOP Scotch bottle and i defeatED that bad coro!!"
Why did the scarecrow win an award? Because he was outstanding in his field.
Hey Daniel, How do you guys go about washing your glasses? Detergent no detergent? Dishwasher? Cheers for all the amazing video!
We have a commercial grade dishwasher/sanitizer in the kitchen at the tower. At home, I just use generic multi-detergent in a dishwasher.
Daniel, today I found about an interesting Scottish gin that's made on Islay. It's called The Botanist and they hand pick all the botanicals off the island. I don't like gin, but if I were to drink any, that would be it. Wondering if you've heard of it?
It's freaking awesome. Actually made by Bruichladdich. Makes a kickass martini.
Wizard Academy That's awesome. Except I guess I have to try it now. I'm guessing it's prob totally different than any I've had before though.
Hi daniel and rex, in my local liquor store this bottle of jim beam double oak has been staring at me (might be an alcohol thing)
Is it any good?
I think we have this in the vault. We'll have to add it to the tasting list.
The pecker slap man!! I’m dead💀🪦🪦🪦😂😂
i have found a bottle of grand old parr de luxe scotch whisky and the odd writing on the label said bottled under commonwealth supervision....what does it mean?

I love the idea that Bulleit Rye causes weird dreams ;-) I also love it as a whiskey.
It's one of my preferred ryes. I get a lot of eucalyptus from it.
Peyote and any rye is a bad combo.
Try Old Parr 18 year,amazing
Great job as usual guys. Just wondering if you guys have had Sheep Dip Scotch? Saw it in a grocery store marked down for only $6.00!!! I thought I can't pass that up. This is our only channel for now. We're adding another soon!
Wizard Academy thanks I can't wait now to bust it open. There was only one bottle so I jumped on it.
Grand Old Parr is miles better than JW Black. Truth is, Grand Old Parr is probably the best scotch I've tried, including scotch that is much more expensive, and this is from someone who prefers single malt, be it bourbon or scotch. Always neat!
Okay, just how many videos had you guys made this day??? LoL
This was video #2 from that shooting session. No whiskey excuses. We're just idiots.
Merely foolish. :)
Could you guys do either Balvenie Doublewood 12 or Aberlour 12? Both are double cask matured, and are Speyside distilleries, and are still two of my favorites. Oh man, that is going to be a great event.
If you hadn't seen it, we did this on Friday!

old parr no.1
You two make me want to just drink more whisky
Dudes. That’s totally crazy. I mentioned that laphroaig 10 was like French kissing Kiera knightley after eating barbecue. I had no idea you guys obsessed over her too
My next bottle cause of these comments
Hey guys,
I’m super new to Whisk(e)y and for a long time it was the
only alcohol I wouldn’t drink... Sorry I’m trying to make up for it now.
Towards that end, I’m drinking a bit of Jameson every day since it seems to be
the easiest and most friendly for me. Do you have any recommendations on the
next few steps I should be taking?
PS Thanks for all the laughs!
You're headed down the right path! When you branch into scotch, start with a Speyside. Easy entry.
Thanks, will do
Hey guys. Would you do the Glenlivet Single Malt? I see the bottle on the shelf behind you, David!
We'll do it!
Awesome! I find it does not go over well with water. It gets more punch-y.
i'd picked up an old parr superior wriswatch in the street .. i don't know if its authentic because i don't if they'd made a watch..
Yeah, I did ask about that crumbly cork in my Bulleit. I didn't find my tea sieve, but a french coffee press did the job just fine!
I just like the feel of a cork better. Also good for stuffing into a tubesock for spontaneous melee action.
Good secondary use for sure. I hope we get to see some tube sock technique tutorials when you have creative control of the new distillery channel.
Totally agree.
What are your top 3 favorite whiskeys/whiskys that aren't smoked David?
It's Daniel ;-) But favorite is hard. Depends on the day, mood, etc. Here's three I love. Irish whisky - Green Spot. Bourbon - Belle Meade or Basil Hayden; Scotch - Bruichladdich Laddie
Hey guys, I really love the chemistry you both have, how long have you guys been friends for? Also any chance you can do a video on the different types of smoking methods? Like peat skeat and such? Chemistry??? Daniel is garbage. That is all.
Rex is a poo-poo head.
Wizard Academy @daniel: sorry I believe the correct term to insult him is poo poo brain...... Hahaha
Please review Buchanans 18. Thanks!
I'll snag a bottle to do a video with! Thanks for commenting!
Second! (You can't be a proper youtube channel without these comments)
Daniel, I think you're gonna have to tough it up and do a video about those flavored whiskies. It's a good opportunity for Rex to try them as well as more content for the school's channel. Just saying....
say it ain't so.
If Rod wants to see it, I'm game.
Can't wait for the all educational content in that video.
You can learn a lot from a good dick-joke.
As long as it not long and hard.
I'll take any excuse to drink Glenfiddich 18.
That's the Spirit XD
Everyone loves a good pee pee touch, might have to check this one out.
men happy ragnar
Hey Daniel, what's a whiskey YOU think people should try.
(I got you)
Kilchoman Madeira Cask. Bam.
I hope my comments are providing u something to do during dry week
Love the new whisk(e)y rating system (flick, slap, squeeze). Your antics reminded me of these www.gunsticles.com/ Perhaps they make some ice cube molds to use with whisk(e)y you can get for the reviews.
Wish it was still $25

I can't find your videos on one of my favorites - 12 year Singleton of Glen Ord. what gives?!
We shall make it so.
We have a comment from... the hobbit, can you taste...
Funny drunk people
Late comment but please for the love of God put the guy sitting off camera back into the videos! It's kinda like watching a sitcom and having the audience laughter at every joke and making it much funnier than it is!
Daniel (not Dan) and Rex you guys have a great show and I really enjoy banter you have with each other, excellent.
Just two little suggestions:
Reduce swearing (not asking to change your style) just reduce it a little.
2nd when Daniel is trying to explain something, Rex let Daniel complete explanations. Example like smokey whiskeys or cask type etc.
Great work, particular like when you guys do a quick comparison between whiskeys.
Keep up the great work. Cheers
Thanks for watching! I'll fucking consider your suggestions =)
Daniel, I'm very upset at you. You have an episode on Grand Old Parr and through out the entire episode you didn't mention about it's bottle design? I would understand and expect Rex missed that, but you... I'm very disappointed.
Yeah. I really should have :-)
Get a small table.
Does anyone take their reviews seriously
