    Great demonstration of what all is involved in using a vane anemometer for a grille traverse. That looks like a really good tool for the money. It's really pretty affordable.

      +sad hvacman that's why I got it back in the day. It is a good reminder that checking airflow does not require expensive tools.

    Great video! I bought the Testo VAC set so that I can start playing around with air flow and duct sizing. I still have a lot to learn about AC's. My year consists of 10% AC and 90% Refrigeration, I hope to change it to 50/50.

      Working Joes Roundtable Thanks! It's what is behind the back doors of your local supermarket and running all of the cases and Walk-in boxes. 👍😎

    Good Video cowboy. Looking forward to the comparison vs Imanifold video. I always wonder why I would get such a high air flow and a high btu output when I had a low charged or txv issue when I knew that wasn't the cause. Really cool of Jim and the team to rework that in the app and thanks for bringing it up.

    Nice video, Zack !!
    I need to learn more on CFM and airflow calculations.
    The School where I went was more dedicated to teach refrigeration but I ended going towards heating and cooling.

    If I wanted to do relative comparison of ducts to ducts (for balancing), can that be done with just the blower fan running? You mentioned that you wanted to wait until the AC had been running for a while before getting measurements. Is that just for absolute readings?

    Interesting that the free area, according to the engineering data, is only about 65% of the nominal filter area (in this case 20 x 30, or 4.17 ft2). My gut instincts would have estimated a higher percentage. I guess that's why we use the tables. :-)
    Good video. Thanks.

    Is this the same process if there are multiple returns? I've been dealing with homes with a return in every room. You would have to do the same process for each return grill? Any other ways or quick tricks for multiple returns?

    • @HVACShopTalk
      @HVACShopTalk  8 років тому

      you would need to measure each grill like this

    Can this apply for the DAFM2 too ??

    Most of my returns are a filter grill connected to flex duct. I've been wondering if I should use the grill measurement or the flex duct size when using my ABM-200

    • @HVACShopTalk
      @HVACShopTalk  8 років тому

      +jason Inman how much room is between the grill and flex. is there like a 6 or 8 inch box?

    What do you do if there is 2 returns. Actually I’ve been working on a big house that has 5 16x16 returns. Is it possible to figure the cfm ? Or should I just use a hot wire ?

      Just do one by one and add them together. You may also use static pressure probes and a blower chart to simplify.

    Is there a way to input free area as a percent of the total size instead of looking at charts? Just for a quick ballpark number. I thought there was but the instructions for this tool are horrible.

      +Steve P I use 70% as a ballpark.
