The ratings comment is misleading. “Live Free or Die Standing” is amazing (in both writing and directing). Gerald McRaney is pitch perfect in this episode. The entire series had lower ratings (in season 13) and was canceled the following year. It’s unfair to “hint” the Olsen’s writing was not as good as the “Mother” episode in season 11.

Transformation? I'm sorry, this disheveled look is getting old. The same look on NCISLA for all those years, so hopefully if he ever comes back to episodic TV, he'll look a little better and will have made some changes.
They forced his character to keep his 20- something sloppy, floppy hair. In interviews, he always had his hair combed back from his face. He looked so much better, especially considering he's in his 40's.
