    LATERAL MOVEMENT
Moving toward your jab/lead hand is far more comfortable to execute than it is to move toward your rear hand direction, and to also initiate your offense while heading in that direction.
What a lot of boxing coaches teach as LATERAL MOVEMENT, I don't. A lot of fighters won't move toward their rear hand, and if they do, they do it flat. Which removes all balance, makes yourself a large moving target, and robs yourself of efficient offense. If your opponent has any semblance of position and balance, your odds to win these engagements are drastically reduced.
Your ADVANTAGE comes from understanding where your BALANCE is. Maintain your balance from your HIPS.
Your biggest ADVANTAGE to using this STYLE is maintaining your STANCE. The stance provides instance MOBILITY, DEFENSE, and OFFENSE.
A lot of fighters get tripped up because they throw their balance off when applying their offense.
The OVERHAND RIGHT; most do not understand how long it takes to deliver that shot. But fighter's will still throw it because the number one defense in boxing is BLOCKING. They have to be there in order to accept that shot.
If we take the DEFENSIVE SIGNAL from our head, and do not allow it to be intercepted by anything else, allow it to go straight to our feet, a half-step out of that position nullifies the OVERHAND RIGHT.
To move to your REAR HAND, you'll make a small push off of your LEAD FOOT.
When using the TRUE BOXERS STANCE, if your opponent can see your rear foot that is a sign that you are out of position. To correct this, make a half-step to hide the rear foot and show your hand (jab).
HIDE YOUR FOOT, SHOW YOUR HAND.
Do not allow your opponent to take a HALF-CIRCLE on you.
This is the equivalent to; if you and your opponent are on a TRACK and he takes off before you, you'll lose. He already has a head-start.
CUT-ACROSS THE INFIELD. Your opponent can keep using the track, because he won't realize he's taking the long way around.
That is the thing about the current boxing climate; Everyone believes that when they make a MISTAKE, the way to correct it is to do it FASTER. If they go for a maneuver and get caught, they'll run the same move but just attempt it faster.
    That's not the answer.
If you walk into a sliding GLASS DOOR, a running start isn't going to change anything.

I have a hard time explaining it, so this is as close as I can call it.
Marvin Cook to Boxing is like what Eddie Bravo is to BJJ in MMA (a lot more well spoken).
Marvin is designing a system to fill a lot of gaps that have gone untouched, likely because of boxing’s tradition of not questioning how certain things are to be done.
It makes sense in my head, but maybe someone else can provide better verbiage to what I’m trying to express lol.

They are questioned tho, this guy says a lot of baloney. Willie pep used lateral movement and he wasn't just a "moving target" because moving laterally is as slow or uncoordinated as he makes it seem, not to mention the weird balance of this position.

Probably one of the best boxing videos on youtube in general.
Too many people train to cut these 45° and even 90° degree angles not realising they are training to beat the inexperienced.
A friend i used to spar with thought i was flat footed because i had the longer reach and he would try to cut these extreme angles he trained on a heavybag same with the overhand right like marvin said soon as you hide the rear foot they are right back where they started and most the times took a hit in the process

I don't do straight western boxing. I train Muay Thai. I still watch this videos and try to apply them to a traditional Muay Thai stance. It's crazy how the same rules can still work in our more "square" stance compared to the blades stance of western boxing.
For anyone else who is trying to apply this to their discipline, it can work. Just mix the two ideals and let the footwork do the work.
