I would be honored to have my ashes put into this urn. Not many things in life or death are as beautiful as Ambrosia Maple, and add the fact it was turned by a master like you Simon.

I've been to the stage where it didn't work out or I went through the bottom of a vase or box etc (many times) and rather than throw it away, its better to add an attractive piece which then makes your work/piece very unique. So I like your technique and persistence. Unless your turning gets shattered into pieces, there is always something to be done to rescue it and hey presto, you get a really impressive result. And anyone looking at the finished 'piece of art' who hadn't seen your video would think you must be a very creative artist indeed. (which you are anyway). Keep it up and keep on creating.

Wish shipping costs weren't so high. I'd trade a whole pile of caragana for a couple of your maple logs. Turned a small spalted poplar piece from my firewood pile today and it turned out great. Never realized how much softer spalted wood is.

Simon, I just discovered you on UA-cam and I like your approach and style a lot, another favorite of mine is 'the Rebel Turner' Al Furtado, I would say he specializes in odd highly defective wood and turns incredible stuff, he uses a lot of CA glue as you did in this urn, and I don't think it detracts from the piece at all. Kudos to you for your work brother. What lacquer did you use on this piece, I can't stand the smell of lacquer thinner at all--curious if your 'mix' stunk to high heaven.
    Loving your stuff--

Hello i have been asked if I could make a unit of some sort of container for the ashes of their dog, they said they was thinking a box but after watching this video i think I might try an urn. Not that I can make one as good as yours. Is there a formula to know what size is needed for what size of ashes?. I forgot to say earlier that I love your work so I have liked and subscribed. Regards Roger.

    • @simongadoury3244

I have a woodworking friend who does a lot of urns which he sells to a couple local funeral homes, and he said what he does is ask how many ounces of ashes they typically had, and then he made an urn that would hold about twice that amount of ounces of sawdust--he say the funeral homes have told him his urns are very appropriately sized, and he also got a metal urn from them that they purchased from a big supplier and he mimicked that urns size as well as the sawdust volume thing.
