    I am new to air gunning though 63 years old. I use to be a sniper on a SWAT team 40 years ago, Fort Benning trained out to 1200 meters, and amazed by the changes in shooting technology. I just ordered a marauder with Lothar Walther Match Barrel (.177 caliber), scope, chrono, 4.5K PSI SCBA system and have a 100 yard range in my back yard. I am a volunteer firefighter so free air, yay.
    You are my inspiration and I value your reviews and advise as well as several other bloggers on you tube. Keep up the great work and thank you for introducing me to a great hobby.

    Great video, and I learned a lot. BTW, I know you just slipped but the speed of light is about 186,,000 Miles per SECOND, not hour. You can multiply that by 3600 times to get the MPH from the MPS. I've used the Lab Radar for a few years, after moving from the Magnetospeed. Both good, but the Magneto was shifting my POI a bit.

    This video has really helped me. I've been looking for another chrono and just purchased the Labradar on the Zon for 600 after watching this video. I used to have the old chrony in the mid 90's mainly for setting up my long range 22-250 and my Weatherby Magnum's. Was reloading a lot back then and yes that thing was a pita. I've recently gotten into the air gun realm and so far enjoying it and this thing is going to definitely be a must have. Thank you again for the extended time on this, so much information.

    Great video Steve. I have the red shooting chrony. I have the red on and have never had a problem with mine. Yes sometimes it can be a pain in the butt to set up, but for home use it is good enough. In your case I can understand why you like the Labradar unit. Keep up the good work.

    Impressed and grateful as always, I cannot wait to see the upcomming reviews and videos using the Labradar. I have just ordered my own Labradar a few days ago and I specifically got it in order to calculate the bc of different pellets that will be specific to my rifles (Chairgun). I have yet to see how that works out but another feature that you forgot to mention is that the Labradar can be used in any weather condition and can also be "safely" used indoors, when shooting from a pool table out the back door. (It's a large glass sliding door with a wide angle of view by the way, so still safe and I have never forgotten to open the door before shooting.)

      Dennis,
      I too will be ordering the Labradar complete package. I did see that there might be a concern of the Labradar not recognizing smaller projectiles. Hopefully this isn't a concern and that becoming familiar with the equipment and closely following instructions great performance from the unit will be realized.

    Excellent review Steve. I’ve never had or used an optical chronograph, but I’ve seen enough guys doing so to know it was more of a pain then I wanted to mess with. When the LabRadar came out I knew that was the one. I’m a 22 BR shooter and mine quickly became a standard part of my range equipment. It’s tracking every round I fire, in practice or at a match.
    I want to point out a subtle but very important distinction however. The LabRadar is triggered by the pressure wave created by the muzzle blast, not by the “sound” of it. It important to understand this distinction especially when trying to track a 22 or a pellet. If it was triggered by the sound it would be going off all the time. Now yes, all sounds are pressure waves, but it has to feel the pressure wave not just “hear” it. That’s why, especially when shooting a 22 or a pellet, it’s important that the unit or the microphone which is also a pressure sensor be in a position where it can feel the muzzle blast created. So, if what I’m saying is true, then why did the guy shooting that AR two benches down keep triggering my LR? Because the pressure wave created by that blast was strong enough to be picked up. That’s what the 4 trigger level settings are for, to reduce the sensitivity of the pressure sensors.

    for my PCP, tuning my gun for the right pellet and highest speed without effecting groups has helped me greatly. In some cases it has helped my shot count per cylinder fill. Bottom line, a chronograph is a great tool for pellet guns and not very expensive.

    Taking everything into account. Speed of setup versatility etc.
    1. Pro Chrono DLX blue tooth. Can do it all, pellets, center fires and .204 ruger 3900 fps which Labdar cant. No wires not fiddling indoors or out it just works. And it saves to phone and unit at the same time. It even tells you the velocity in a digital voice after each shot + you can email a pdf of the shot strings. Software is super easy and hooking to phone is auto. NO WIRES NO paper no pen needed.
    2. Magntor speed V3 - Outdoor range friendly small no tripod needed. Slower to use and changes POI since it hangs of barrel.
    3.LabRadar - finicky slow has lots of features. Getting data off it is clunky less stream lined. Fails on high velocity rounds and too many wires hanging off it. But if you just want to make You Tube Videos it might be faster than trying to line up two chronos. Most people will have BUYERS remorse on Labdars.
    I have both pellet guns and center fire.

Another thing the labradar is great for is to determine ACCURATE ballistic coefficient by plugging the data from the labradar into a BC calculator app. This helps with the data I plug into my BDX rangefinder and makes my accuracy that much better. Steve, why don't you use a laser bore sighter to set up your targets, chrony's and cameras? Set it on a spare scope on a mini tri-pod on your shooting bench, point at your target then use a white card at your chrony to see the laser dot ie:pellet path.

    Hey Steve, this might sound a dumb question, but I shoot primarily out my upstairs window because it looks out over a very wooded area … and hey, it's air conditioned in the house making it a much more pleasant shooting experience. I have heard that the doppler unit will not work when shooting through a window (from a UA-cam review) because the unit needs to be unimpeded when tracking the projectile downrange. Can you verify if that is correct?
    Again, thanks for all you are doing for the sport … part of the fun of airgunning is trying to keep up with all the new technology … and it keeps coming almost at lightening speed.

    Steve, after getting some really wacky readings from my Shooting Chrony (blue), I decided try out the Caldwell G-2 Precision Chronograph. I'm hoping you may have some advice for me on one question I have: The instructions suggest a distance of 10' - 15' from the muzzle when using a firearm - that seems unnecessary for airguns. Could you suggest what you think might be a proper distance from muzzle for this circumstance? Looks like you had a fabulous Euro-trip!

    • @bellshooter
      @bellshooter 5 років тому

      Saw your question, generally firearms and shotguns emit debris which can affect readings so need 5-15 ft space to dissipate particles and debris, arrows need 1 arrow length to stabilise and you can shoot an airgun/airsoft/paintball as close as you find comfortable.

So since this a GREAT Idea an I spoke it first.I would very much appreciate if you do take the time please do 13.43 .177 JSB New Design and Enjun 16gr and the 21gr piledriver. There have been claims in the past that about energy retention downrange of pile driver being better overall than other pellets. I think it would be very interesting to one have YOU do the test(lol) and at the same time check the accuracy of two types of chrony"s.

      Benjamin Spencer Hi Ben! I fear BC may be way to simple a concept to make it the heart of a video so here's the nuts & bolts of it. BC is a simple measure of aerodynamic drag. Less drag = greater accuracy as more speed is maintained to target. And THAT'S important because the sooner the projectile gets to target, the less "time" wind and gravity have to alter its path. Hope this helps. Steve

    • @UltimateFT

    Steve why have you not reviewed the FX chronograph. I would like to know how it matches up to the lab radar Krohne. Let me know when you will do it thank you.

      I also have noticed that you are using the lab radar all the time. Can you tell me why?

    • @aeacvlog2033
      @aeacvlog2033  4 роки тому +1

      Because it displays velocity all the way from the muzzle to the target and this is useful to the audience... and it's easy to put a camer on.

      @@aeacvlog2033 Tested one 4 years ago along side a Polish slanted readout thing our governing bodies treat as gospel which penalise law abiding shooters. All led type give incorrect readings in uncontrolled conditions as much as +/- 20%.
      They will be amased how the various pellets of the same manufacturer will differ over distance. The day of the test we had shooters from all over the world using their pellets from JSB. Even though most had a similar velocity around 780 ft/sec, the 30 yard velocity vastly changed with the various pellets. Best were around -45 ft/sec, bad ones as much as 140 ft/sec slower at 30 yards!

    shooting chrony, if you are listening, you need to upgrade your product. The software and user interface is in need of an update. Time to stop resting on your laurels and get working on bluetooth , apps, and simpler button arrangements. I need to read a book every time I want to sort through how to erase the data on your product.
