I was going to comment this same thing. I've had this happen with many yarns, even bernat blanket stripes, but i worked around it. Making sure the stripes continued correctly. But another suggestion is what most companies suggest, buy all the yarn you need for your project at once. Because sometimes the dye variations are very noticeable. I understand when buying clearance, you get what you can, so maybe make a smaller project, with what you can get, or buy a different colorway that there is enough of. Because the color difference is much more noticeable and not an easy fix like this issue in my opinion
Hi Lori, I finally got a minute to look at this video. I might be able to shed some light on why the cakes have been wound differently. It's not done on purpose. It actually has to do with the person who is working the line that day at the manufacturing facility. It's like one person is left handed and the person tomorrow might be right handed. They do it differently to get the same results but that makes it so some cakes are one way and other cakes are inside-out. I've been to manufacturing facilities and watched the production of the items that end up in our stores. One worker pulls the yarn from one side of the machine to begin the winding process and another worker pull the yarn from the opposite side creating cakes of the same yarn being wound differently...back to front and front to back. It can also happen when the huge put-ups of many thousands of yards of yarn are loaded in the winding machine. Sometimes they get flipped over creating an opposite winding pattern from the previous huge load of yarn. I hope that helps a little bit. Honestly, the difference in the winding pattern doesn't even occur to those working the lines in a manufacturing facility, but maybe it should. If they did pay more attention to that particular detail it would sure save me a lot of heartburn.
Wow! Thanks for the info! So interesting... I was more thinking it can only be wound inside out, not outside in, so how does this happen??? It's interesting how I've never come across it before (that I'm aware of anyways) and then did twice within a little over a week. Now, as I said, stripped yarn is not my favorite to use, although I'm very drawn to it. If my yarn wasn't buried in totes, I would re-check what I have in my stash lol.
After this info gets out it may effect the buying of this product. I sure will look closer at what I buy and won't buy a product that I can't have peace of mind with. Thank you for your review and no you're not being negative, you're being honest. I appreciate you for your choice.
@LoriHooks Hi, I've noticed this as well with other brands... (Lion Brand Ferris Wheel) I've become resigned to the notion that these yarn products need to be used for a random effect and will likely not match up, so can't expect it to. It would be interesting to know if each color is always the same yardage within the cake so the person using it can plan accordingly.
I have a yarn ball winder just for such an occasion and had to use it this morning with a Lions Brand Mandala I had one skein out of 5 that was inside out 😊
I've done the same when frogging a project and the yarn ends up backwards, I'll decide when I get to these if I'll do that or just pull from the outside - I dont really like doing that as I usually end up with a mess. Cloud cakes are fairly delicate yarn, I'm afraid to rewind them.
Nah they're the same, they were just wound differently. You can center pull one and use the outside of the other, or else just re-wind the cake from the outside. By the time you're done, it'll look the same as your other cake. It's a pain and maybe time consuming but definitely a simple, straightforward fix.
Hi Lori, I suspect that after they balled up a cake to the correct yardage, the machine cuts the yarn and just starts a new cake from wherever it left off so there's no wastage but of course the sequence may not be uniform. Someone needs to figure out better how long each colour should be so it always ends and begins at the same colour. At least that's what I would do 😁
Always check the numbers on your skeins of yarn and make sure that you get the same numbers just recently they started where you didn't have to do that but from the time I have always worked with yarn since I was in junior high school we always check the lot numbers and make sure that they were the same so the project would come out the way it needed needs to
It seems like Lot #'s used to be more obvious. Often at Michael's they are all different Lot #'s so I get in the bad habit of not looking, the Cloud cakes, I knew they definitely wouldn't be the same, I bought them several months from each other, just never occurred to me they wouldn't be wound in the same direction.
It isn’t just Caron cakes that do that. I purchased an Afghan kit a couple of years ago and the yarn is Bernat Pop and it has the same issue. It isn’t a dye lot issue, it is just the way that they wind it up.
Thanks. Something I will pay attention to on my next shawl with Caron yarn. The knots in the last cakes makes me think I'm not going to buy this brand again.
This is why I always make sure to buy enough (+1) all at once for the project I'm doing. In case of "stocking up" during mad sales, I **always** buy at least 2-3 of each colorway. If they don't have at least 2, I don't buy it. But I do find it annoying that they do this and I have to be careful if I do **have** to mix old and new - can usually be "fixed" by center-pulling from one cake and outer-pulling from another. OR, if you have a cake winder, I've been known to rewind one so it matches the other. Still annoying though.
I'm usually like this, seems recently michaels near me only has a couple of each colour, and I have multiple stores nearby so I've mostly gotten away with getting some at one and some at another.
It is done in the manufacturing process. The yarn is on really large rolls and are sun down on the smaller rolls we see in the store. The machines spin the yarn off to smaller rolls until it reaches the yards on packages. A worker is monitoring about 10 rolls and when it done it is cut an a new roll is started. They are not going to pull the yarn to get to the exact same color every time because a whole lot of yarn could be wasted and end up in waste to landfills. It is really hard to get the perfect match to each yarn cake and lots have slightly different color. The Crochet crowd here on youtube did a series of videos at the Bernat and Carnon yarns are made. You can go to his channel and search how yarn is made . I hope this helps your question.
I've noticed this when they started making cakes. I've also noticed, that if purchased at the same time, get 1 in the REVERSE, because usually, when you pull from the inside the OUTSIDE of the beginning cake, ACTUALLY matches the the INSIDE or OUTSIDE of the next skein, or VICE VERSA. Which makes it EASIER when adding the next skein, because MORE LIKELY THAN NOT, the interior of the NEWER skein will only have a VERY SHORT beginning match.
When I buy a bunch at the same time I line them up so the end color does its best to match the start so I have to cut out the least amount, and hopefully get the length needed because as you said they are always shorter color change at the beginning and end.
Thank you for pointing this out! I'll have to look at them more carefully, I started a project with it and didn't like how it was crocheting up, so put them in time out 😂
I have had the same issue Lori and when you are making a large project it is very frustrating. Not to mention when there are several knots in one cake/skein. I find this mostly with Yarnspirations and now veer away from that brand as much as possible.
Great video! I have seen this with other cakes as well. I have gotten into the habit of always checking and then rewinding some to match for a center pull so I don't have to think about it mid project.
Thanks for pointing out the direction of the colour sequence. The importance is that the colour shades are identical.. you can start from the outside with one, and then start from the centre for the other.
I've now seen this is several different brands when its different lot numbers - or when no lot number and I've bought them at different times. I now pay a lot more attention to color changing cakes/skiens.
Some manufacturers reverse the colors in striping yarns purposefully. I’m not sure, but believe it was explained on The Crochet Crowd channel. The reason for doing this is if you are working on say an afghan and finish up one cake, you can then join the next cake and the striping will be in the correct order or contiguous with the rest of your already completed project. Hope that makes sense.
When I’m making a blanket I purposely change the way I pull the yarn. for example when end starts with color A,B,C then D. The other end ends with color D, C, B then A. That would be perfect for me
I use the Mandala cakes and they all do the same thing. I just match the number, but don't care that the sequence of colors is different. I have 5 cakes of one color here, and they are each different. I figured it was just how it works.
I am making a Afghan with Mandela cake in groot. Using linen stitch. I am just using as I go with center pull. It looks fine. I am not stressing on colorway repeating. Looks more natural to me.
I have seen this on other brands, too. To make matching socks or gloves, you might have to unwind some yarn in order to get to the color you want for the beginning.
The yarn could be spun in more than one facility. I have worked in manufacturing and there should be quality control checks to ensure things like color or pattern. However, if the yarn is coming from different facilities, this could be where the mix-up occurs.
Unfortunately I know exactly what you are talking about. However,I have noticed both Mary Maxim Prism and Patons Kroy sock yarn both also did this. It is very frustrating if you are trying to have the same pattern throughout a project, and the company messes up the orientation of the pattern. I have bags of yarn to use, when I figure out how to organize the pattern all going the same way...I know I can do it,it will just be very frustrating to do. Thanks for mentioning something that does bother me as well.
Thanks for letting me know to keep an eye with other brands. Sounds like your like me, when working on a project that takes several skiens or cakes I put them in order so I have to colour control the least amount 😊
This is why they always suggest buying what you need all from the same lot. Unfortunately, we don't always know what we are going to use the yarn we just bought for. For this reason, I highly suggest splitting up the colors for maximum color control. I do this with most Caron cakes and Lion brand Mandalas, and it saves a LOT of headaches.
That's why you buy only the same lot number if you expect sameness. That's happened to me with other manufacturers as well, so I'm a stickler on lot numbers.
I don’t know how long you’ve been in fiber art, but every company does that. There are so many cakes that come out like that negative. But complaining about how it is wound instead of saying to yourself off while I was at color control it pulled from the center of one outside of the other. It is extremely common.
Color-stripping yarn is not my favorite, this was my first experience with it. The video was intended to be informative, some others were not aware either. No, it's not a big deal, just work it from the outside, but as others commented, when realizing when starting the 3rd cake and needing to frog out an entire cake, it's very frustrating. I hope you have a good yarny day!
They may also make the cakes opposite because some people like the opposite as opposed to one way or the other it’s just to give options. However, my guess is the machines are threaded when the school gets to be a certain weight or they know the length they cut it off, pull it off and the thread, the spool and just keep going and so you’re never going to get exactly the same on all the balls, because the color isn’t going to fall that waythis is the way of commercial Yarn.
If you can not pull one from outside and the other inside, or if you have a winder rewind one., or you can ball one of the cakes so the start with the same part. i like, the darker colors on the exterior of shawls, or on cuffs and neck lines, as these areas are more exposed, get dirty quicker.
It's not just Caron. My girlfriend brought me ten rolls of mandala hombre in blues and greens gorgeous yarn but they were spun backwards on 4 of them and I didn't know it til I grabbed the third ball and then I looked at what I had done on her blanket and was peeved to say the least that the second ball of yarn even though I started the middle ball with same color I ended with gave no thought that it could possibly be in reverse order and ther on out I had to cut them apart and find the color I needed next and work in all the cut colors as I came to that color. Absolute nightmare!
Hi Tina, that is a nightmare! I would be so upset. I'm learning from everyone's comments we need to watch all our stripping yarn and its a common issue. I use stripping yarn because I don't want to keep changing colours and sewing in all those pesky ends, I think its ridiculous they aren't all the same!
If you bought the same die lot at the same time, wouldn’t the cakes be the same? That’s why people don’t just buy one skein of anything it not only has to do with color but now we’re finding out the way. It comes off of the spool when they manufacture it. That’s interesting. We just keep learning learning and learning don’t we?
I noticed that the UPC code is even different. Seems to be exactly the same yarn, but you'd have to roll one in a ball first to orient it to the others center pull layout. Interesting, I never noticed that before - but as a yarn crafter, I'd like it if they could indicate on the label, maybe, the order of the colors, so that there are two different variations for the same color name. Cool video~
I had it again a few weeks ago in some herrschners stripes skiens, same upc, no lot #'s, yes I bought them at different times. I look for it now. Putting it on the label would be helpful for sure.
Lori, I never noticed this before. I will have to be more careful since I tend to try to color control at times. I have notice that same lot number will have slight color variations. I bought 4 Caron Big Cakes in Vanilla Bean and now having to work around the variations in color. Lucky for me I only need 3 cakes. I will one very pieced together cake leftover.
Hi Cynthia, some others through their comments have informed its the same across all the brands not just Caron. Thats upsetting that your colour variations are different among your cakes of the same lot #, that's a much larger problem than the colours being out order. Good luck with your project and I hope it comes out okay!
I agree they can't ensure the lengths of each color match up. I figure if they make sure the colors are in the right order, they should be wound in the same direction. Possibly your correct, that it's cost prohibitive. I have a sweater I made with cloud cakes, I love its feel, I'm a little afraid to wash it though, even hand washing.
@@LoriHooks cotton kings' sultan cakes don't seem to have that issue, however, they also don't have a repeating color pattern but rather a smooth transition from the color in the center through multiple shades or different colors to the color on the outside.
@@beardiemomthe sultan cakes are beautiful cakes! I love the slow transition. I was looking for a thicker yarn in this case, I wish cakes like them were made in thicker weight yarn!
I bought 3 of the SAME lot at the same time and they were all differently caked. I wasn't working with a specific color pattern as part of the pattern so I made it work, but it was still very annoying.
I'm like you. I usually pull from the center for each skein or cake I use for one project because I want the same twist in the yarn. Like they twist it clockwise and pulling the yarn from the outside might be twisted counter clockwise. Hmmmm....ill have to pay attention. Thank you for this vid.
I don't think they always stop and start on the same color. I had to cancel a vest i planned to make because i did not have enouh yarn to line up the front with the back. I did buy two Caron cakes that looked like they would match up. It would have been fantastic, but oh well. I always have more projects waiting to be made. The yarn os still usable, too.
I know they don't start and stop same color, which makes sense, a cake is so many yards, they're cut and goes to the next cake. I just don't understand why they don't always do them in the same color order. Certainly advantages and disadvantages of stripped cakes for sure, but love the color combinations 🙂
I know of one other crocheter that pointed this out. They actually knew the reason why. It was crochet crowd if anyone wants to find out why. Has something to do with cutting after the spinning on to the cake n dye lots. Its important to check the dye lot numbers is what i got out of it. Which i tend to forget to do, lol. Best you can do in a situation like this is to cut the yarn at the point of desired color. 🙁
I knew to watch dye lots for colour variation, but never occurred to me to look for them to be spun in opposite directions previous to this. The project I finished today I used stripped herrschners yarn that has no dye lot, it has the same issue. I did buy them at different times - I lost yarn in a recent flood in my home, I'm just glad I could still buy it.
Many manufacturers do this; whether it's a different person running the line from shift to shift, different facilities making the same color-way, or if any of them take a break to switch color-ways for shipping/demand purposes. That's not even considering machine issues and maintenance that may happen in the middle of a run. These are all the blanket reasons why companies tell you to watch your dye lots, but beware there are some companies that consider the dye recipe the same as a dye lot, making matching nearly impossible. Most of the ways to hide or combat these minor inconsistencies have been mentioned here. Rewinding any varigated/color pattern yarn is HIGHLY recommended, especially if opposing sequences or leading colors bothers you... I don't think anyone's mentioned finding factory reconnects of a big knot that totally disrupts the color sequence and causes you waste of time, energy, and material so the company can keep it "fast and cheap" on the shelves...? Annoying and frustrating as it is, it's not a new issue and most of the time quality control is more than good enough.
I had come across the knots many times before this, since this video I've also had the same thing happen in other brands. Its a good reminder to match lot #'s or when knowing not matching to pay attention - I was well aware the lot #'s probably didn't match when I bought them since they weren't bought during the same trip.
Hi Lori, that is a very good point. I have never had very much success with buying variegated type yarn, for the same reason. I am a matchy type person by heart too. If it is too disconcerting to work with, I might suggest putting it aside while you look for just the right project to use it on. Perhaps making somethings smaller where the color repeat wouldn't matter so much, like a pillows, toys, shawl, or maybe baby sweaters. The yarn has a beautiful colors, I especially like the mint green and cream one. How long have you been crocheting? Crocheting and knitting are two of my favorite hobbies. I just turn 60 and have been crocheting since I was in my 20's and I started knitting in my 40's. I am working right now on a pair of Norwegian Selbu mittens. I am on the last glove and almost finished with the thumb which you do last on this type of pattern, and then I will weave in the threads. It was one of the hardest projects I have ever made. Last month I thought I was done and was overjoyed until I discovered I had made two left handed gloves! Talk about a rookie move. :). I am going to save the yarn, take a good long break and finish another right hand glove later so I will have a set to give away as a gift. I stumbled upon your channel today, I really enjoy your videos. I especially loved the doily wall hanging you did, that was ingenious putting it on a circular frame. I was just thinking not long ago about framing some of my white doilies and I had the idea of putting them in square frames with black velvet backing, but I like your idea much better. I live in a small town in the low country of Georgia with my husband and mother-in-law. Have a wonderful day ahead!🧶
Hi Delisa! I'm so glad you introduced yourself! I learned to crochet when I was 20 and make a baby blanket for my oldest with the help of my Grandmother. I dabbled in crochet over the years and really got back into it about 5 years ago. My Grandmother preferred to knit, she taught me to knit first, I'm guessing when I was around 12 as I made a little scarf for a doll, but it didn't really stick, I kept dropping stitches and got very frustrated. I re-learned to knit a little over a year ago through YT tutorials and I love how knit items work up. Two left handed gloves, this sounds like a Oops I would definitely make LOL! I haven't made mittens or gloves yet, especially gloves are a little too difficult for me at my skill level 😊. I love how the doily wall hanging came out, doilies on tables aren't really my thing, but I love it on the wall. I have another I have bought some crochet thread for and I'm looking forward to making it. In Michaels the circular frames are usually in the section with the flower making items. I live just outside of Toronto, Ontario with my Hubby, our two grown children and our pup Sophie. I hope you are having a wonderful yarny day as well! ❤️
I watched a video on this; if the manufacturer has to fiddle to make them all uniform it would increase waste and hence cost. I’d rather pay less and rewind it myself.
I have 6 cakes for a full size blanket - NOT ONE is the same as another - not one. So you have to magic knot to another cake in a certain order to get the colors to run in order... not fun.
That's so frustrating! On multiple cake projects I check them all first to see what order works for cutting the least amount, but still so frustrating!
Neither did I, but from the comments, Caron is not the only one. When I found the Cloud cake a few weeks ago, I thought it was an oops one-time thing, then the Cotton cake was the same.
I have four Mandala tweed stripes with the same color way on the band. Two cakes have more tweed yarn and the other has more solid yarn. Even the colors are different. Oops!
It’s not really that uncommon. When I used to knit socks, I’d get 2 balls of sock yarn, 1 for each foot. Often as not, they’d be wound opposite. I didn’t mind, I like mis-matched socks. Others would complain. Happens with all yarn companies.
It could be that when the giant bale of pre-dyed yarn they received came in, someone put the bale upside-down and it went into the processor that way. Yarn is really neat, you might find this "how yarn is made" video pretty fun to watch: ua-cam.com/video/9pyMh0Ll-8k/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for sharing this video! I really enjoyed watching! I wonder if Spinrite has tours of their factory, it would be cool to see in person!
@@LoriHooks Yeah, it's really cool! I can tell from the video that making this yarn is a hugely complicated process and it makes sense why if a ball came out of production spun the wrong direction, it was still considered acceptable to let it go out that way. By the time that ball came out, it went through ALL of those steps perfectly! I would really love a tour of that kind of place too! It's such a cool process!
I don’t know why people are so worried about the way the color runs. Isn’t the point of color changing yarn to be unique ? They are the same . How could they possibly get each cake exactly the same? Work one from the outside? What’s the big deal?
@@LoriHooks doesn’t bother me at all. I just did a big project where I had to work every other skein in n the outside. It turned beautiful. I guess that’s me!
I always cut and match I hate how company's do that sometimes I get lucky and the new skein starts where the other ended but that is not often. If they are exactly opposite I work one from the inside one from the outside. I hate working from the outside but I hate having my colors off even more.
I agree with you, if cut out chunks to have the start be the right colour many times. This was my first finding it wound the opposite way, but I've seen it several times now. I work it from the outside, it's a hassle though.
Its not uncommon...i had it happen to me when i bought several at michaels at the same time...its aggravating!!! I also had it happen with caron simply soft stripes...
Noro's price is probably a little too steep for me that I doubt it would he an issue. If the skien or cake had short stripes of misc colours throughout, I would do better with that... it would actually do better with my OCD tendencies 😂.
Just center pull one, and pull the other from the outside.
I agree, it's an easy fix, as long as you realize before starting the cake.
I was going to comment this same thing. I've had this happen with many yarns, even bernat blanket stripes, but i worked around it. Making sure the stripes continued correctly. That's how it's always been! Pull inside then pull outside and so on and on and on!!! I can't believe she doesn't know this!!!!!! Thanks.
@mariewilkes8775 I guess I have always been fortunate enough to not have this happen previously. Obviously, it's an easy fix.
@Stephanie.922 I agree, it's an easy fix, and in most cases I would ensure to buy all at the same time.

Hi Lori! The beach glass color looks very different (not just wond backwards) - the right side ball is much more vibrant!
Yes, Sometimes the knots are ridiculous for sure. At the price we pay for yarn, the quality should be better!
Thank you for bringing this to our attention!
Your welcome!
Great video! I have seen this with other cakes as well. I have gotten into the habit of always checking and then rewinding some to match for a center pull so I don't have to think about it mid project.
Thank you! Good idea rewinding the cake before starting the project... I am the type who would forget until I go to use the cake.
Thanks for pointing out the direction of the colour sequence. The importance is that the colour shades are identical.. you can start from the outside with one, and then start from the centre for the other.
For sure, much more concerned about colour variation than the direction working the cake. I think that's what made me notice the different sequences.
I believe it's across the industry. I've purchased many different yarns from many different companies, and I have seen this in every one of them.
Thank for this important info. From now on I will check any and all yarns I purchase.
You are so welcome! 🙂
When I’m making a blanket I purposely change the way I pull the yarn. for example when end starts with color A,B,C then D. The other end ends with color D, C, B then A. That would be perfect for me
That would be nice on a blanket!!
Hi precious Lori, so happy to see you today. Dropping in to see (why) Caron (does "this" ) haha. Hugs and Loves.
Thanks for watching and saying hello! 🤗❤️
The yarn could be spun in more than one facility. I have worked in manufacturing and there should be quality control checks to ensure things like color or pattern. However, if the yarn is coming from different facilities, this could be where the mix-up occurs.
I didn't think of different manufacturing facilities, thats interesting. Thank you!
Happened with red heart and brought same time. Didn’t notice either that color was off
That would anger me so much, especially if it's one of the Red Hearts that have no dye lot. Frustrating.
The colors run the same order. Just start with the middle on one and the outside from the other.
I usually am, I figured for a striping it wouldn't be too noticeable and I really liked the colorway.
They are two different lot numbers? This is why I match lot numbers. And yes some of it was how they were wound at the factory.
I'm told there is a video by Mikey at crochet crowd explaining, I should look for it.
If you can not pull one from outside and the other inside, or if you have a winder rewind one., or you can ball one of the cakes so the start with the same part. i like, the darker colors on the exterior of shawls, or on cuffs and neck lines, as these areas are more exposed, get dirty quicker.
I'll just pull opposite directions as mentioned. I would do same as you indicated balling part to start with the same color.
All multicolor cakes are like that; it's not just Caron. Premier, Lionbrand, etc. also do it.
I had a Herrschners stripped since then, same thing. Thank you!
Always buy the exact same lot numbers. Seems that maybe the yarn was just wound up in the opposite direction ( reversed)
I LOVE Caron Cloud yarn!! I think it would just be cost-prohibitive if they produced them in a way that made all the color transitions match up.
I have noticed this before, I just had this issue with a lion brand dk woolease cake.
This video has made me aware I need to check all my cakes/skiens based on others comments.
Ohhh that would he frustrating for sure! Glad you made it work out!
Can't you rewind them? Good to know I will have to keep my eyes open.
Cloud cakes the yarn breaks easily, I'll have to work it outside in, not a huge deal. The other I can rewind or do the same.
I'm like you. I usually pull from the center for each skein or cake I use for one project because I want the same twist in the yarn. Like they twist it clockwise and pulling the yarn from the outside might be twisted counter clockwise.
Hmmmm....ill have to pay attention. Thank you for this vid.
Thanks for watching, I'm glad it was helpful to you! I'll pull these from the outside and hope everything comes out looking ok 😊
I heard they did that so you start with the same color you ended with. If you want to that is.
I'm one of those people who like the stripes to match and want them in order.
Yes, if it decreases waste, it's decreasing cost and then worth it. I appreciate the information. Thank you!
How it's wrapped or different batches would b my guess
My ocd brain rather they not 🤣
Good advice; interesting. Thank you 🧶
You’re welcome 😊 I'm glad it was helpful!
You should re wind/ball one. 😮
The cotton, I'll either do that or work it from the outside. The Cloud cakes are fairly delicate yarn, I'm a little afraid to rewind it.
Go to their website and ask them about it
I've been told Mikey at crochet crowd did a video on it that I need to find. I've seen it also with other brands, so it's not limited to caron cakes.
So did you contact the company and ask why?
No I did not... others commented all brands do this, so I didn't bother. I've seen it again in Herrschners stripes since this video was made.
Very common. Pull out your ball winder. It is not really a big deal. I do not see it as odd.
They're different dye lots
I have 6 cakes for a full size blanket - NOT ONE is the same as another - not one. So you have to magic knot to another cake in a certain order to get the colors to run in order... not fun.
That's so frustrating! On multiple cake projects I check them all first to see what order works for cutting the least amount, but still so frustrating!
Variegated yarn has dye lots
FYI... yes these particular ones do. Some do not, like Herrschners stripped.
I cannot even imagine caring about this.
Agreed
Looks like one was wound one way, the 2nd was wound from the opposit end.
Go with the inside out then outside in
Machines that wind yarn face each other to fit more machines in an aisle
I didn't even know this was a thing. Why on earth would they do it backwards?
Neither did I, but from the comments, Caron is not the only one. When I found the Cloud cake a few weeks ago, I thought it was an oops one-time thing, then the Cotton cake was the same.
These are lot numbered under the name,so have to match them.
Here swift and Balwinder just wind the other one up to be the way you want it to be
I'm afraid to re-wind the Cloud Cake, its so fragile. The other, for sure, rewind it. Or work it from the outside.
I have four Mandala tweed stripes with the same color way on the band. Two cakes have more tweed yarn and the other has more solid yarn. Even the colors are different. Oops!
I hope they work out ok in your project. It would make things simpler if they would make them the same 😊
That's why I don't but caron yarn
It’s not really that uncommon. When I used to knit socks, I’d get 2 balls of sock yarn, 1 for each foot. Often as not, they’d be wound opposite. I didn’t mind, I like mis-matched socks. Others would complain. Happens with all yarn companies.
Thanks, since then I've seen it again in other yarn companies and others have commented the same. I really wish this type of thing didn't bother me!
Just unroll one from the middle and one from the outside.
Very interesting
That is frustrating.
I don’t know why people are so worried about the way the color runs. Isn’t the point of color changing yarn to be unique ? They are the same . How could they possibly get each cake exactly the same? Work one from the outside? What’s the big deal?
The point was that it's opposite... as long as it's noticed, not a big deal. I now check every stripped cake or skien I get.
@@LoriHooks doesn’t bother me at all. I just did a big project where I had to work every other skein in n the outside. It turned beautiful. I guess that’s me!
Just wind it the other way and it will be the same 😊
Isn't it just a matter of taking notice and using one from the inside out and the next one from the outside in? Not that big a deal is it, really?
Aggravating for sure!!! The simply soft would be so much worse as you probably can't see that when working from the skien.
Different sites
Then never buy Noro yarn. You will go apoplectic with the inconsistencies. Of course, that is why people buy Noro-it’s unpredictable.
Noro's price is probably a little too steep for me that I doubt it would he an issue. If the skien or cake had short stripes of misc colours throughout, I would do better with that... it would actually do better with my OCD tendencies 😂.
Wow.. it's not just brand. You sound picky.
