If you havent seen it, I highly recommend the Australian tv series, Gallipoli, released in 2015. This series was made in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the landings and in conjunction with the Australian war memorial (which, for those that dont know, is also the official war museum of Australia). As a result it has extraordinary attention to historical accuracy.
It does centre - understandably, given who made it - on the ANZAC positions and the ANZAC experience but it also details the high level politics going on behind the scenes between the generals, admirals, war correspondents and official historians. Well worth a watch if this campaign interests you.
ps that photograph featuring Sister Hobbes seems to have spelled her name wrong.

Sinclair maclagan didn't help when landing with the 2nd wave of boats and then ordering the covering force to dig in . They didn't land in the wrong place they already knew that the nice gentle beach closer to gabe tepe had wire entanglements below the water line setup. I have a copy of a letter written after the war by the man commanding the first boat to land the 9th battalion he talks about this among other things why the landed further up the beaches.
The organisation for the landing was pretty average , the 12th battalion for example was spread over 12 different ships which meant when they got in the landing boats they headed off in just about every direction. Many of the kiwis were still using the long tom Enfield rifles from the boer war without charger loading. Many upgraded by picking up Australian rifles from the dead.
Its a interesting campaign enjoyed the video.
Had relatives in the infantry 12th, 13th battalions and lighthorse.
The 4th Australian brigade was put with the kiwis because of lack of numbers to make a division.

The confrontation between 6 Gurkhas and Turks at Sari Bair as painted by late Terence Cuneo is very fine and lovely but I wonder why Sir Cuneo depicted the Gurkhas' slouched hats wrongly? Instead of fold of their Hats on right side, he had shown it on left side?...Ironically my Grandfather belonging to 2/10 Goorkhas had fought in Gallipoli.....

The photograph showing troops gathering on the beach at Gallipoli should close down all the arguments about how the ANZACs stormed ashore under fire. It was an uncontested landing in the correct place.
Those photos weren’t taken in the initial landing, though?
@@OldFrontLine Don't tell me the Turks would have done nothing to stop the ANZACs building up logistics and munitions. That photograph is an original.
Why do you Aussies have difficulty accepting that the landing was unopposed, do you really want the thought of Aussies dieing.
@@anthonyeaton5153 no, far from it they shelled these positions and I’m aware it’s an original image as I own it!! I was just explaining it isn’t an image from the original landings.
