I have listened to this song multiple times and I decided to read the summary of the channel. I was surprised to find that Joe says that he 'resigned from Kimber's Men in October 2016. I had been very ill that year (nearly dying in May 2016) from Cancer. So after 15 years I was subsequently told I hadn't been missed in the six months whilst I was in hospital and wouldn't be missed in the future. So I'm working solo again and relieved to be out of a band where I was clearly disliked and not wanted.' It seems very harsh how he was treated. I think he really makes this performance what it is - he gets into the character of a crew member etc. I can't readily find information on the internet about the background to the dispute with the band.
Joe was a good un, he sadly didn't know how much he was loved and appreciated. How he left the band was unpleasant, but most certainly on his own terms and of his own making......
It's not Bad... Johnny collin's version, is the best one I've heard... But, Kimber's Men have a few signature tunes that they perform, that are the best I've heard... Notably, "Bully in the alley"...
It’s to make sure he’s in tune. He’s actually curling his ear inward so it catches more sound from the direction his voice is coming from. At least, that’s what it looks like.
@@Jboudathat‘s exactly what he‘s doing. in this style of ensembles you often see people do that to ‚in ear monitor‘ themselves. These environments can be extremely loud and this way you can clearly make out your own voice without the need to sing louder and louder.
Это очень душевно... Ощущение, будто сам сидишь с братанами под небольшим градусом) Надеюсь, все люди в этом видео - живы и здоровы Привет из России P.S. Оставь её, джонни! 😊
Because its about the sailors missing being at sea. The song is them acting as if they wont miss her (the ship) but they always will miss the ship and being at sea. So it would fit for a sailors voyage being through
@@raysie34 Some ships have a musician with a banjo, like the musician that Bligh insisted on having on Bounty - although I don't know whether they had shanties on that ship (probably not).
if this isnt played at my funeral i aint going
... im feeling good today so i wont talk of semantics
Lmao
If it's not, I'm not coming either. Fuck'em for not play'n it!

I wonder how many sailors had this sung at their funeral?
You should listen to Lowlands away (Assassin's Creed IV edition)!
@@christoffer_p6247 ..or these same blokes version ua-cam.com/video/nK9XsybPe28/v-deo.html - lovely
Dude, a sailor's funeral song has to be Fiddler's Green.
That's the best version is heard so far and even better than i could imagine. I want to listen to the Kimbers some day live!

The guy on the far right.. this the same guy that is the lead singer from Bully in the ally?
He has a powerful voice!
Hi , Yes that is John Bromley part of Kimber's Men.
John Bromley. Also sings with his children in 'The Bromleys'.
He sounds like a rough and tough sailor!
a beautiful and melancholy song
Hey Guys,.....this is FANTASTIC! ***************
Realy good and I sang with them last weekend, signed D.R.
Beautiful.
Love it. How come Bromley always covers his ear when singing? Smashing work as usual chaps
