I am so pleased to hear you are happy to just leave the "underpainting" as is. More than a few years ago I started some paintings and was thrilled with the underpainting (sepia effect) and ruined one when adding colour. I then began to do a series of just sepia paintings and they all worked out fine. Some I did on gessoed paper and used the oil a bit like watercolour. Now, when I start a painting like that, it gets suggested that I need to get over it and be more brave and just add the colour. Trouble is, I feel they are finished as they are. Consequently, I am trying to develop a different way of starting each painting, using all the colours from the start. Perhaps, I was doing OK with just the sepias.....? Thank you for enlightening me. I don't watch you often enough and will endeavour to do so more in the future. You are a gem!
Just found this page, Charlie and I love it. Your work has been a favorite of mine for some time. I found this UA-cam channel as I am obsessed with Dean Mitchell and found your interview with him. The discussion was incredible and your interaction with him was amazing...so much depth...so many great discussions of how he looks at art, explores work and reveres the process. I loved it.
Hello Charlie Hunter, Great Show so far! The only thing that distracted me while listening to your Voice was a kind of wispering Sound in the/your background… how about nice soft music or nature (ein plein air) Sounds instead in the background? Appreciate! Thank you very much!!!
