People who say this level is gimmicky clearly weren’t around for any other updates. everyone had the exact same complaints then as they do now. people just need to accept it’s not that bad and it actually looks really fun and satisfying to pull off after you learn it. I honestly really like explorers and the gimmick think is not like every single robtop level (specially the old ones) is basically made to be a gimmick since that is the point of main levels, show to new players how the game progress in levels and updates with features of every respective update

The main levels' whole purpose is to introduce new gimmicks to the game: Electrodynamix and speed changes, Deadlocked and teleportals, Blast Processing and the wave, etc. The level looks really fun so far and it's still subject to change. nahhh the other levels introduce gimmicks WAYYY more seamlessly. Its not about gimmicks in the level, its about how they're integrated into the levels. Dash feels a lot more seamless with its 2.2 features while explorers feels like it's stitching 2.2 features on, if that even makes sense. Dash seems like a genuine RobTop level while Explorers looks like a level from the GDPS. And the gimmicky gameplay isn't the only issue with explorers. Lackluster deco, broken sync, etc. And to those people who say "lower your expectations", those expectations were based of the first sneak peek to begin with, which might I add is WAY more polished than explorers. I don't hate explorers, I love the song and I've always been excited to see the level, but this just needs...more.
Even RobTop said himself: "Creators keep raising the bar for what's a good level, and that's helping delay 2.2 a lot". RobTop's levels are in general actually really good. Especially the demons. But if Clubstep were to come out today, it might not even get a rate. RobTop doesn't have to build Bismarck to make good levels, ya know.

I feel like the "Slaughterhouse Wave" in Explorers will be like the first wave spam in Deadlocked; it will be hard at first, but it will feel much easier later EDIT: Ok. 2.2 is out now, and I feel like it’s worth updating this comment. I have played an accurate recreation of the sneak peak, and I am afraid that the wave is WAY too hard. The almost blind transition into a vertical wave is definitely the hardest thing in the level so far. Except for the wave, you can get pretty used to the rotating single screen part, but you do need to memorize it. Hopefully RobTop improves the wave part before 2.21

People complaining about the gimmicks and sightreadability of this level probably never even played a RobTop level before. Like there is literally a memory ball part in ToE 2, is that sightreadable? No, but nobody complains about it. Literally every RobTop demon you normally need to practice first. I think this level is great and some people in this community are just hella ungrateful.
My problem with this community is the fact that everybody has set standards for what should be good and what shouldn’t be considered good. The rate system, for example, is now completely one sided and you have to create a specific design to get your level rated or featured. Standing out as a unique creator is now really hard to do. Same with the expectations for 2.2. People expect RobTop to be able to make a CuLuC design level within 2.2 and are malding over the new gimmicks and there being “no air deco”, which I’ve never really seen air deco in RobTop levels in the first place? Just leave the man be he’s been working hard for 5 years now trying to get the update out while trying to maintain a life 😭 Edit: the Slaughterhouse wave seems fun ;) Edit 2: StormFly’s video explains this perfectly

That's what 4.5 years of building hype and rising expectations does lmao. People wanted far more than was realistic, and because of that so many people already ruined the level for themselves.
I have to say, i am very excited to try this out. I remember my first feeling when i beated Deadlocked on my phone. I was just so amazed i beated this insanely difficult level with moving blocks. And when i saw this new level, i have to say i am so hyped trying this out. Im so excited for this. And this game deservers more content or ''gimmicks''. I am hyped and i am excited for this. And those who hate, will get use to it.
Really nice video, when I first saw the trailer I didn't think anything about the gameplay being too bad, the main part with the spider, mini cube, and wave remind me of that one memory part on Geometrical Dominator and will probably just take a bit of practice to complete. GD has come a long way and i'm excited to see all the levels with the new gimmicks.
Dude when I saw the static camera section, the straight fly and the spam wave I literally lost it at just how cool that section looked. I genuinely can’t wait to play it, even if it’s a chore to get used to the camera controls and vertical gameplay, it just looks so awesome
tbh i'm satisfied with the results, also i've seen a giant purple robot in the level, i'm sure robtop holds a huge surprise which is why he stopped the teaser at this part :D

Explorers is such a cool level. My mind was blown after seeing it, and it really doesn’t deserve the hate that it’s getting. The level looks really cool, and the sneak peak itself was the second longest sneak peak next to the first one.
The level looks really nice for me. Like especially when we compare it to featured level it looks better to me. And I hope he doesn’t nerf the slaughterhouse wave :) he should even buff it
I agree with both sides It is a bit gimmicky but i think the gimmicks are fun to have. However, there should at least be indicators in the plus sign part because 1. it would look better and 2. it'd be more sightreadable Hey, it'd at least steer creators in the right direction for when they make fun and accessible gameplay okay?
Sdslayer brings this up in his analysis video and says RobTop has basically created a memory section. Sdslayer says that it could easily be fixed by RobTop indicating what game mode the next pass of the section will be at the end of all parts of the section.
I’ve always liked robtops style because it’s usually restrained, fun to play and doesn’t have so much excess objects that really don’t need to be there. They are there for the purpose of playability and to introduce new gimmicks. Imagine if all the main levels had bland gameplay like 80% of the featured levels today. It wouldn’t hook new players in

i do feel like with some polish, Explorers will probably be a fine level also by the looks of things, it has a lot of gimmicks because it's the demon level, and the first sneak peek's level is there to introduce the new features
The only genuine critique I can give this level is the first part does lack a tiny bit of air deco, but its not too bad, plus its robtop, and the plus part is a bit too hard, other than that the leve looks very very fun and I can't wait to play it.
Its a great level, I dont like everything as it does take away the linear aspect of gd but I think a lot of new awesome stuff will appear that we can experiment with. I think, because the creating community has grown to the point of masterful gameplay, insane mastergames, or just straight up epic effects, we probably gained an standard of what gameplay would feel like to play. Personally I do somewhat agree with the ‘gimmicky’ criticism mainly for just how many gimmicks it introduces in a very short amount of time and it just feels kinda forced to be there (i guess if that makes sense) unlike most of the other robtop levels where they are placed in spot where it would make sense for them to thrive or would add to the level. We also do have standards that have risen to the point of no return because of many creators and player experiences with making or playing levels as 2.11 reigned on with levels that go beyond what we saw as great before 2.0. We’ve seen sick layouts, we’ve seen sick minigames, sick levels and stuff and robtop is also getting better at creating as well (his past sneak peeks). We did have high expectations and I think those high expectations make sense regarding I can’t even remember how long 2.2 has been in the works and its been hyped up for so long. I get that robtops levels aren’t supposed to be so masterful or whatever but I would love to see his levels improve gameplay wise as time went on. Honestly a better idea would be to have more than one level with a focus on some specific gimmicks. 2.2 is a huge update after all.
Explorers looks fun and challenging, I honestly think the new 2.2 levels will be good either way. Deco will be mid 3 weeks after launch, but that happened with every single level.
I really like how explorers is turning out. And I think it has some of, if not the best music sync of any main geometry dash level. It may be very different at first but I think it's going to end up being my new favorite level just for how fun, challenging and unique it is.
I like everything about Explorers other than the fact that there's too many spider orbs, it should be like Fingerdash where they threw in like 2 black orbs instead of the beginning having so many of them
All you said I 100% agree with, I could not have said it any better. It just seems that people expected some generic featured page gameplay with jump indicators all over the place. Explorers will be a fun level for everyone, no matter the skill level, an that's something only a good game designer can make
Since i know that this is still an unfinished version of the level i wont say anything about the deco, i personally think this is a pretty good level! The gameplay isn't bad but it's still not the best, something i have to say about the balancing tho is that i would personally buff and nerf some parts like the wave part.
I really enjoyed this one, everyone expected something fancy or like a detailed Hollywood movie but that for me is not very interesting. This one has a great balance between aesthetics and fun gameplay, the way the screen zoom in and out left and right, the Hinkik music, everything is just *chef kiss* edit: I don't play games that’relike the same as watching a movie, I need a level that is still in a Robtop style and has a clean and not too much colorful details.
I find the problem with the gameplay isn't the "gimmicky" nature but the lack of readability/balancing. Gamemode changes are happening with no indication and gameplay appears suddenly and is thrown at you with no time to process. But ultimately my main problem is the visuals. And not in the sense of the quality being underwhelming, because it's RobTop we're talking about, it's not going to be Xender Game levels of quality. The problem is it looks visually identical to not just the last previewed level, but a lot of RobTop's work the past few years. It's all brick blocks and lava and pixel art, very Mario inspired. The main levels used to all have a unique visual identity, at least past XStep or Clutterfunk. But both these levels he's previewed are so samey, and bland because of it. I'd expect a level called Explorers to be more space/tech themed or like ancient temples or something, not knock off Bowser's Castle for the fifth time. With us waiting for a look at Explorers for so long, it is pretty disappointing ngl. So I understand the backlash. That all being said, I do find the gimmick argument, or complaints over the length of the preview to be extremely weak and petty.
I think it's ok if the gameplay is not sightreadable. I mean, parts in Deadlocked are definitely not sightreadable, but people have gotten used it and enjoy it. People act like you MUST follow certain rules when making gameplay, when in reality, you can make whatever you want. Personally, I think explorers looks fun. As for the decoration, I like the way it looks, but I do have to admit that it is a little empty. Good thing that RobTop is willing to listen to the people and change stuff. I feel like there could be a tiny bit more in the sneak peak, like even one more small thing would do. Robtop could just show us something simple he had finished for a while, or even something that was already kinda leaked in the hacked GD World. I still think the sneak peak was good and I'm looking forward to what the full version of explorers is like

The gimmicks that came with 2.0 are less extreme compared to 2.2's gimmicks. It was still a side scroller, which is something we're familiar with and was easy to sight read, which I think many will now complain about because with 2.2 some levels will become less sight readable, and because the community kept begging for more and more features to be added with 2.2, it will be overwhelming to some players. Not saying it will totally break the game. _It'll be something we have to get used to_ . Level creators will understand how to make the gameplay good (There'll probably be some janky levels at the start of the update like in 2.0 and 2.1 but it will get better). Also this is what happens when you let your community ask for too many features to add in an update. 1:29 And is that a Velocity X soundtrack I'm hearing in the background?
The level could be improved. I like that it has gimmics because that's the sense of robtop levels showing the main features. But as it's an official level it should be high quality because it will have a huge effect on future levels. One part that I don't like is the giant + with static camera, it makes the reverse/arrow trigger feature to be overused. Also deco wise it feels a bit empty, some pixel art would be cool to make some atmosphere to which explorers has huge potential. And somehow the 7 orbs before the + part feels really generic just like someones first level. Overall it's a good level which needs some improvements

Players be so soft nowadays, they see slightly unbalanced and different looking gameplay and throw a fit. Meanwhile no one seemed to complain when 2.0 released and every jump was an unexpected moving object.

Honestly it looks really cool and the first time I saw people hate on it I was just confused, but ngl I do think I’ll struggle a lot with this level, especially since I’ve only beaten 3 demons in total, which I am proud of but isn’t a ton
Bruh do you realize how bad of an argument you made? Deadlocked showcases 2.0 gimmicks along with things you have already seen in previous levels, such as all other gamemodes apart from the robot, gravity portals, orbs, pads, and well, inanimate objects. A fair comparison between deadlocked and the sneak peek level would be if every deadlocked structure was given a move trigger, half the level was just the robot, every other orb was a green orb, and much, much more. It is also to note 2.2 has more new features than 2.0 and 2.1 combined and maybe even 1.9 too. To cram ALL of the above in a single level is too much of a lethal combination for every player. + Another thing is that many common features among robtop levels were completely trown out of the bus such as making every portal visible and sightreadable, the fact that the player is always moving horizontally (and to the right), that the camera doesn't rotate and the level doesn't slow down like some csgo kill edit, and a lot more. Violations of the biggest gd principles at full display.

One thing I do every time I watch a geometry dash video is play along with it. And I’ll say now I already really love the flow of the level! Especially the pipe part, which when first watching it I thought I wouldn’t like it. So that’s saying something
The big problem people have surrounding explorers is how different it is from normal 2.1 levels, the main thing being the camera controls. I've always been one to dislike levels that improperly use the camera controls. An example of a level that uses them well is the first sneak peak. The second one just seems way too in your face, like its trying to say "I am a 2.2 level look at me". On top of that the decoration in my opinion isn't as good as the first sneak peek when it comes to effects, movements, and design. I still like explorers but I will admit that it is disappointing even without the high expectations built up for it.

If both levels were reworked to introduce every feature slowly and let the player sight read everything properly, then they will be good levels. It’s not a good idea to pack all of ur new content within a minute unless it’s for an update sneak peek. Other than that, they’re lookin pretty good
The only issue i see with this level it's that the drop part in music starts *before* you reach jump pad - feels like delay that makes you "tsk damn, if only, if only it was second later just to fit that jump pad transition" But that's literally it. Plus we still have to see what this level have in full version so it's kinda too early to judge so much < could be wrong tho, but that's what i think so far
id say that 2.2 features hold a lot of potential, and the sneak peak(s) are great, even if the level isnt actually good, the song will always be amazing

The only thing I think is slightly weird is hoow... horizontal the first parts are? The way you just kinda go in a straight line? Perhaps also how the order of the orbs, pipes and platforms seems slightly random with the song. But Rob said he'd polish it and even then I'm happy with this

I have to say, i am very excited to try this out. I remember my first feeling when i beated Deadlocked on my phone. I was just so amazed i beated this insanely difficult level with moving blocks. And when i saw this new level, i have to say i am so hyped trying this out. Im so excited for this. And this game deservers more content or ''gimmicks''. I am hyped and i am excited for this. And those who hate, will get use to it.
Really nice video, when I first saw the trailer I didn't think anything about the gameplay being too bad, the main part with the spider, mini cube, and wave remind me of that one memory part on Geometrical Dominator and will probably just take a bit of practice to complete. GD has come a long way and i'm excited to see all the levels with the new gimmicks.
Dude when I saw the static camera section, the straight fly and the spam wave I literally lost it at just how cool that section looked. I genuinely can’t wait to play it, even if it’s a chore to get used to the camera controls and vertical gameplay, it just looks so awesome

tbh i'm satisfied with the results, also i've seen a giant purple robot in the level, i'm sure robtop holds a huge surprise which is why he stopped the teaser at this part :D

I feel like a good portion of gd's community are just people who can do nothing but complain, the whole point of a new main level, is to show off the features of the update it comes with. The "gimmicks" are an absolute necessity, did they expect him to add all these features, just to make a level that doesnt include any of them?

Explorers is such a cool level. My mind was blown after seeing it, and it really doesn’t deserve the hate that it’s getting. The level looks really cool, and the sneak peak itself was the second longest sneak peak next to the first one.
The wave part is actually super easy if you make it in the editor, sure it’s not sideways, but it’s close enough.

Sdslayer brings this up in his analysis video and says RobTop has basically created a memory section. Sdslayer says that it could easily be fixed by RobTop indicating what game mode the next pass of the section will be at the end of all parts of the section.

I’ve always liked robtops style because it’s usually restrained, fun to play and doesn’t have so much excess objects that really don’t need to be there. They are there for the purpose of playability and to introduce new gimmicks. Imagine if all the main levels had bland gameplay like 80% of the featured levels today. It wouldn’t hook new players in
I honestly think this level is the best rob has made, and though it looks a bit learny, the gameplay also looks really fun.

The only genuine critique I can give this level is the first part does lack a tiny bit of air deco, but its not too bad, plus its robtop, and the plus part is a bit too hard, other than that the leve looks very very fun and I can't wait to play it.

Its a great level, I dont like everything as it does take away the linear aspect of gd but I think a lot of new awesome stuff will appear that we can experiment with. I think, because the creating community has grown to the point of masterful gameplay, insane mastergames, or just straight up epic effects, we probably gained an standard of what gameplay would feel like to play. Personally I do somewhat agree with the ‘gimmicky’ criticism mainly for just how many gimmicks it introduces in a very short amount of time and it just feels kinda forced to be there (i guess if that makes sense) unlike most of the other robtop levels where they are placed in spot where it would make sense for them to thrive or would add to the level.
We also do have standards that have risen to the point of no return because of many creators and player experiences with making or playing levels as 2.11 reigned on with levels that go beyond what we saw as great before 2.0. We’ve seen sick layouts, we’ve seen sick minigames, sick levels and stuff and robtop is also getting better at creating as well (his past sneak peeks). We did have high expectations and I think those high expectations make sense regarding I can’t even remember how long 2.2 has been in the works and its been hyped up for so long. I get that robtops levels aren’t supposed to be so masterful or whatever but I would love to see his levels improve gameplay wise as time went on.
Honestly a better idea would be to have more than one level with a focus on some specific gimmicks. 2.2 is a huge update after all.
Explorers looks fun and challenging, I honestly think the new 2.2 levels will be good either way. Deco will be mid 3 weeks after launch, but that happened with every single level.

I really like how explorers is turning out. And I think it has some of, if not the best music sync of any main geometry dash level. It may be very different at first but I think it's going to end up being my new favorite level just for how fun, challenging and unique it is.
I like everything about Explorers other than the fact that there's too many spider orbs, it should be like Fingerdash where they threw in like 2 black orbs instead of the beginning having so many of them
All you said I 100% agree with, I could not have said it any better. It just seems that people expected some generic featured page gameplay with jump indicators all over the place.
Explorers will be a fun level for everyone, no matter the skill level, an that's something only a good game designer can make
Since i know that this is still an unfinished version of the level i wont say anything about the deco, i personally think this is a pretty good level! The gameplay isn't bad but it's still not the best, something i have to say about the balancing tho is that i would personally buff and nerf some parts like the wave part.

I really enjoyed this one, everyone expected something fancy or like a detailed Hollywood movie but that for me is not very interesting. This one has a great balance between aesthetics and fun gameplay, the way the screen zoom in and out left and right, the Hinkik music, everything is just *chef kiss*
edit: I don't play games that’relike the same as watching a movie, I need a level that is still in a Robtop style and has a clean and not too much colorful details.

I find the problem with the gameplay isn't the "gimmicky" nature but the lack of readability/balancing. Gamemode changes are happening with no indication and gameplay appears suddenly and is thrown at you with no time to process.
But ultimately my main problem is the visuals. And not in the sense of the quality being underwhelming, because it's RobTop we're talking about, it's not going to be Xender Game levels of quality. The problem is it looks visually identical to not just the last previewed level, but a lot of RobTop's work the past few years. It's all brick blocks and lava and pixel art, very Mario inspired. The main levels used to all have a unique visual identity, at least past XStep or Clutterfunk. But both these levels he's previewed are so samey, and bland because of it. I'd expect a level called Explorers to be more space/tech themed or like ancient temples or something, not knock off Bowser's Castle for the fifth time. With us waiting for a look at Explorers for so long, it is pretty disappointing ngl. So I understand the backlash. That all being said, I do find the gimmick argument, or complaints over the length of the preview to be extremely weak and petty.
I think it's ok if the gameplay is not sightreadable. I mean, parts in Deadlocked are definitely not sightreadable, but people have gotten used it and enjoy it. People act like you MUST follow certain rules when making gameplay, when in reality, you can make whatever you want. Personally, I think explorers looks fun.
As for the decoration, I like the way it looks, but I do have to admit that it is a little empty. Good thing that RobTop is willing to listen to the people and change stuff.
I feel like there could be a tiny bit more in the sneak peak, like even one more small thing would do. Robtop could just show us something simple he had finished for a while, or even something that was already kinda leaked in the hacked GD World. I still think the sneak peak was good and I'm looking forward to what the full version of explorers is like
the level is fine and doesnt need to be changed ,it's a good tutorial of showing the player of what is coming from him in the player made levels , make your own opinion and stop watching colon, more than half of you cant beat a 6 star

The more that people complain about how “gimmicky” the level is the longer 2.2 will take to come out since Rob will just spend his time trying to fix it over and over again.
The gimmicks that came with 2.0 are less extreme compared to 2.2's gimmicks. It was still a side scroller, which is something we're familiar with and was easy to sight read, which I think many will now complain about because with 2.2 some levels will become less sight readable, and because the community kept begging for more and more features to be added with 2.2, it will be overwhelming to some players. Not saying it will totally break the game. _It'll be something we have to get used to_ . Level creators will understand how to make the gameplay good (There'll probably be some janky levels at the start of the update like in 2.0 and 2.1 but it will get better). Also this is what happens when you let your community ask for too many features to add in an update.

The level could be improved. I like that it has gimmics because that's the sense of robtop levels showing the main features. But as it's an official level it should be high quality because it will have a huge effect on future levels. One part that I don't like is the giant + with static camera, it makes the reverse/arrow trigger feature to be overused. Also deco wise it feels a bit empty, some pixel art would be cool to make some atmosphere to which explorers has huge potential. And somehow the 7 orbs before the + part feels really generic just like someones first level. Overall it's a good level which needs some improvements

Players be so soft nowadays, they see slightly unbalanced and different looking gameplay and throw a fit. Meanwhile no one seemed to complain when 2.0 released and every jump was an unexpected moving object.

Bruh do you realize how bad of an argument you made? Deadlocked showcases 2.0 gimmicks along with things you have already seen in previous levels, such as all other gamemodes apart from the robot, gravity portals, orbs, pads, and well, inanimate objects. A fair comparison between deadlocked and the sneak peek level would be if every deadlocked structure was given a move trigger, half the level was just the robot, every other orb was a green orb, and much, much more. It is also to note 2.2 has more new features than 2.0 and 2.1 combined and maybe even 1.9 too. To cram ALL of the above in a single level is too much of a lethal combination for every player. + Another thing is that many common features among robtop levels were completely trown out of the bus such as making every portal visible and sightreadable, the fact that the player is always moving horizontally (and to the right), that the camera doesn't rotate and the level doesn't slow down like some csgo kill edit, and a lot more. Violations of the biggest gd principles at full display.

One thing I do every time I watch a geometry dash video is play along with it. And I’ll say now I already really love the flow of the level! Especially the pipe part, which when first watching it I thought I wouldn’t like it. So that’s saying something
The big problem people have surrounding explorers is how different it is from normal 2.1 levels, the main thing being the camera controls. I've always been one to dislike levels that improperly use the camera controls. An example of a level that uses them well is the first sneak peak. The second one just seems way too in your face, like its trying to say "I am a 2.2 level look at me". On top of that the decoration in my opinion isn't as good as the first sneak peek when it comes to effects, movements, and design. I still like explorers but I will admit that it is disappointing even without the high expectations built up for it.

If both levels were reworked to introduce every feature slowly and let the player sight read everything properly, then they will be good levels. It’s not a good idea to pack all of ur new content within a minute unless it’s for an update sneak peek.

The only issue i see with this level it's that the drop part in music starts *before* you reach jump pad - feels like delay that makes you "tsk damn, if only, if only it was second later just to fit that jump pad transition"
But that's literally it. Plus we still have to see what this level have in full version so it's kinda too early to judge so much < could be wrong tho, but that's what i think so far

idc what anyone says it is a nice looking level that shows off new mechanics, players shouldn't compare robtop to master builders of the playerbase he doesn't make many levels he makes the game itself it's up to players to make great stuff with the puzzle pieces they got, there are even levels that get robtop amazed on how they were made.

The only thing I think is slightly weird is hoow... horizontal the first parts are? The way you just kinda go in a straight line? Perhaps also how the order of the orbs, pipes and platforms seems slightly random with the song. But Rob said he'd polish it and even then I'm happy with this
