"DRIVE THE BALL FORWARD" (and body following forward)!!!! It's the game changer for me. Thank you for the best advice I ever had. This advice helped me to bring up my hitting level 100%. "DRIVE THE BALL FORWARD" for ALL SHOTS - especially the short high ball. Love it :) Do I hit TOP of the ball (at 12 o'clock)? or middle - on back of the ball (3 o'clock)? Thanks, Dan Le - Student of the game :)
Great points! Thanks. And for those sleeping on that singles playbook mention, here’s a non-paid endorsement. I bought it when it first came out. I read it and watched the videos multiple times until I learned the concepts. Last year I lost one singles match (6-4, 6-4) all year using those techniques and running those plays. If you like to win, buy the book. It’s that simple.
Definitely agree with this. When it’s 4-5 minutes long it’s simple and concise enough that you can actually digest and apply it. I would wager that most people watching these videos play more matches than practice, so it’s important to have clear and simple goals
Great tips! Still requires a perfect hit to get that ball in the corner with decent pace. Many times I hit that ball in but either not angled or not fast enough and my pusher opponent would get there and lob it back over my head (I’m 5’3).
@@JonnyW. You’re right, perfect is relative. I just said that to mean a great shot. Professional players just need a good shot because even the opponent gets to the ball and hits back it’ll be hard to get a good passing shot against a big and good player at the net.
Thanks Ryan. The racket face at contact ahould be slightly closed or flat? Also I would point out that one of the other key ingredients is not stopping momentum of the body and have that slight karaoke of the right leg. Many players will run up, stop, setup shop, and fail. (Me)
This all nice and great as you say when the ball comes back to you with a bounce...but most times at the club level there's not much bounce to work with😓😓
Your videos are great and I’m a regular. Aim to stay that way ‘cause they’re that helpful. But I have a suggestion: this one is particularly good because three important points are compressed into a vid that’s under five minutes. Not all of your videos should or can be that short, but I gotta’ say that a greater percentage of shorts would be eeeeeven better. Anyway, THANK YOU and keep it up.
I’ll absolutely aim to make my videos shorter. I agree with you. Greater percentage would be appreciated by many of my viewers. Thanks for the support nash!!
Wow. He crushed that short high ball. When we make contact over the net on high short balls like this, is it still important to close the racquet face at the bottom of the backswing? I can't tell if he is doing it. At the baseline, assuming Eastern forehand grip, we are supposed to close the racquet face about 45 degrees on the backswing.
The racket face closes at the bottom of the backswing on normal groundstrokes as a natural consequence of the orientation of the swing path, where the arm must swing *downward* and then upward towards a ball struck around the level of your knees, waist, or chest. But an approach shot like this that's taken very high, around or above shoulder level, will not create as much of a closed racket face during the backswing, because the orientation of the swing path is tilted to be more horizontal.
@@2MinuteTennis When I swipe at a high ball 4 to 10 or 5 to 9, the ball does dive down like topspin, and it also kicks left with topspin. It's AWESOME and you helped me see what's really happening. Now all I have to do is go attack short high balls with this shot!

Hey thanks for the comments. Would you mind if I showed your comment on an upcoming video?

“Perfect” is relative. Just find a tennis wall and practice then feed yourself balls on a court and solidify the muscle memory

This! Showing pro tennis as a tip is dangerous for rec players
@@rectennisgames True, but his tips are good if you, even at rec level, like to learn proper technique.
Great advice.Thanks
Thanks so much Peter!
Perfect! Thank you! 🙏🎾🤘
Weight distribution on your front foot is so important to this shot
You are awesome Ryan:--thanks for the tip
Great lesson. Thank you!!
excellent video. For perfect tennis
I’ve waited years for this video!
Haha thanks for waiting and for your patience.
TYSM! Iearned something new 💓💓
Excellent thank you!

Nice thank you
These are neat and effective tips. I always slump the wrist trying to make a smash, because of no confidence, I will try modify in tomorrow's games.
So good!
Thanks for the great tips. Do you also recommend hitting down the line to cover the angle?
Would changing from a semi western to full western grip make sense for the short ball + high bounce?
This staying to the right of the ball is good for any forehand shot?. Thanks
Especially this shot since you have to stay far away from a ball played at shoulder level.
@@2MinuteTennis Thank you very much...I really love your video lessons. You have a great way of explaining all intricacies of the game.
What grip for the put away? Regular forehand grip?
Yes! Thanks for watching!!
Great tips ! Thank you Ryan.
Crikey why didn't I think of that. Going to be fun tomorrow not getting jammed again I hope. TY man. 🎾
I've learned that topspin is really important here
I just close my eyes and hope for the best with those shots.

Is it only topspin ... or is it topspin with side-spin?
Topspin and sidespin.

I want to…uh… I'm not quick enough😂
This is only for short high balls. I wish you would have included short low balls cause the technique to hit them is different
Great tip. But not gonna but the crap book.
Thanks for watching. And yeah, who wants to learn the strategies pros use anyway!
You seem like you’d be fun to play against
