Thanks for pointing that out in this video! I made sure to mention it in the updated one I released a few months back but it's good to know for people who were wondering
I’ve never had cruise control in the two cars I’ve had. Finally buying a brand new 2024 Kia Soul GT and having to look up how to use it! Thank you for the video
I use everyday!! Is very very nice, especially for rush hours! Works much better when the road conditions are good (what is the case in the Netherlands). But pay attention when you change lanes, sometimes take longer to "find" the car in front of you.
You're welcome! When the vehicle slows down using the smart cruise it will show brake lights. Great idea to add that into the video though for people who are wondering the same thing
I believe you actually have to be accelerating, foot on gas pedal, for the cruise to engage, not just moving. Is that correct? And is there a certain speed that much be reached first? (like 25 mph?) Thank you for your great videos.
Thanks! I've been able to toggle it on when stopped when auto hold is turned on but otherwise, you do need to be driving to actually turn it on at first. You have to be going at least 10 km/h (5 mph) to be able to toggle the system on
There are so many things! Which Kia model did you pick up? I have a bunch of Kia walkthrough videos on the channel - infotainment help, steering wheel and cluster etc - www.youtube.com/@CarsWithSteve/search?query=kia
I thought Kia's Smart Cruise Control and Lane Following Assist only work on highways? How did you get them to work on city roads? Or are there specific models for which features like SCC and LKA work in the city? I am currently shopping for a 2024 Sorento, and the sales guy at the dealership told me all these features are packaged under Highway Drive Assist, and only work on highways.
Haha, the sales person probably hasn't tried to activate it on regular roads. There are certain elements, like lane change assist, that will only work on highways/interstates but otherwise the Smart Cruise and Lane Follow Assist can be used anywhere as long as lane markings are recognized. Just make sure you're paying attention when you're coming to an intersection because it won't stop at lights automatically
@@CarsWithSteve Thank you for the prompt reply! If I may, I would like to ask if you have had a chance to test a current generation Subaru EyeSight based system, and how it performs in Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane following, in comparison to current generation Kia/Hyundai system. My main concern is night driving, since Subaru's is camera based while Kia's is Lidar based, and cameras don't perform quite as well as Lidar, when visibility is poor.
@@krismorris7265 that doesn’t seem to work on the new 2024s as I just bought one and I’m driving down the road right now. That worked on my 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe.
What I discerned from one of your other videos (I think!) was that pressing the cruise control button quickly activates cruise control (duh!), yet the same button has another feature - speed limiter - which is activated by pressing and HOLDING the same button. The difference between the two is NOT clear in the downloadable manual, nor is it crystal clear in most videos I've seen. Good video, though!
Yeah that's a good one that I should have covered off too. I'm planning on re-shooting this shortly with a closer view and will make sure to cover off speed limit assist
Thank you for the video. Do you know if there's a way to increase the reaction of the accelerator when the car comes to a stop using SSC and you want to resume . Currently the reaction of my car is very slow from a stop and I would like to have it react more quickly back to speed so people behind me don't start honking that horns at me.
You're welcome! Some Kia models will let you adjust it through the media screen. Settings --> Driver Assistance --> Driving Convenience --> Smart Cruise Control
I have a 2021 Sorento EX Hybrid. I really like the Smart Cruise Control but I have a question. Do the rear brake lights come on when using the cruise control and do they stay on they stay on while stopped? Thanks Jim
Hey Jim! Yes the brake lights should function normally when the vehicle is slowing down on gets itself to come to a complete stop. That would be a good shot to include in a future video
Just down the center stack under the infotainment screen. This walk through on the screen of the Sorento covers it off closer to the end of the video -> ua-cam.com/video/CzRqKMTgH4o/v-deo.html
As long as the brake isn't pressed, it would be able to keep going the whole time! I've done some 12+ hour trips with it going, only stopping for an occasional break
Are you driving when trying to set the speed? The system won't work when you're in park. If you're moving and the cruise isn't working, what's the year/model/trim of the Kia you own?
The SCC is the most hated system in the new KIA software, as you can't disable it and use a normal cruise control. For me and many other KIA owners it's a real bug and I'm currently thinking about selling the car, even if it's only 3 months old.
Being able to switch to traditional cruise would be a great addition but smart cruise is really useful. I use it in every car I drive on residential streets and highways regardless of the brand of car I'm in. Once you get the hang of it, it really is superior to traditional cruise
You can disable it. Read the manual! Hold the button down to disable it. But if you are having a problem with the system, it’s a user issue. Driving assist systems are the way of the future and it’s amazing on a long trip so you get to your destination without being exhausted.
@@LifeAfterLosing No, model 2024 has no chance to disable it anymore - it came with the new software in the EU in connection with the new "features" as the mandatory and most annoying speed limit warner. And sorry, for me it's not the future - it takes away my own responsibility and makes me somewhat less concentrated on the traffic but instead focus on these systems. For me, they definitely are not suitable. But I do understand, that that's only my opinion and that you really like it 😀
@@LifeAfterLosing I don't get it either. For me, I plugged off the sensor and camera that are needed for these systems. No nagging anymore, but also no chance to use the CC.
This is absolutely awful. I've been trying to set my cruise control for 200 miles and it turns on but it will not maintain my speed. Instead it keeps me from accelerating
After you toggle the system on.. are you pressing down on the right up/down toggle to set your speed? If so.. any way you can have someone record a video of you doing it so I can see what’s happening? You can send the video through Facebook @carswithsteve or Instagram @realcarswithsteve
Sorry to be a troll, but this was a terrible explanation. The lower right button: when you press it is there any indication anywhere that something has changed? My sense is there should be some chevron or something on the display to tell you that you’ve pressed this button. What is the upper left-hand button in that same cluster? How does the following work, at the very end you intimate that it will bring you to a full stop - this would be a heck of a thing to test, especially if you have no indication whether it’s even on - ha ha! Appreciate the effort to make the video, there’s more left out of this than an explanation of anything.
Lol sorry to be a troll.. but let me troll. Love it. The explanation is great but it's the angle that doesn't work well because it doesn't show off the cluster. I have an updated version coming out soon that actually shows the different icons that pop up. The lane centering button will show a steering wheel in the cluster screen when it's pressed. Once cruise is turned on, there's another icon that pops up, which goes green when you've actually set a speed. Keep your foot hovering over the brake regardless but if your vehicle starts slowing down then it will bring you to a complete stop. Only time it wouldn't work well is if the person in front of you slams on their brakes and you're following too closely

Problem kia smart cruise control NO PICKUP AFTER A STOP
Part of pickup speed is what the distance indicator is set to but you could always press the accelerator yourself until you get to speed. I don't think I've ever been in a car with adaptive cruise that picks up quickly from a stopped position. Smart cruise is definitely best on highway and interstates but you can use it no problem on streets
I have a new Rogue with Adaptive Cruise, great for long drives on xways, but I've used it on rural highways too. If you want more pickup and go from a stop, simply put your foot on the accelerator and push forward!
If you press and hold for a second the up or down buttons increase and decrease by 5 rather than 1.

Great to hear that more people love the feature too! Thanks for the tip on watching when changing lanes, I found the same thing as well
Hi! Thank you for posting. One thing I’m trying to figure out is… if you adjust the cruise control down by a mph or two, do the brake lights come on?
