    When I was a high school student, I was very good at learning things by heart and keeping up with the class and teachers besides i never fell behind my homework or assignments. Some of my classmates were so naughty and sometimes played tantrum or fled the coop from school.

    • @highlevellistening
      @highlevellistening  День тому

      Sounds like you were a great student! Well done making some good sentences as well!
      I wouldn't use "flew the coop" for school. We only use that phrase for leaving home.
      - "My mother flew the coop when she was 18 and joined the army."
      - "My sister is the next one to fly the coop."
      We also use a different collocation:
      - [play + truant]
      - [throw + a tantrum]
      Hope that helps!

    Very interesting topic with phrasas verbs. Many thanks. What about jog my memory ? Is it like refresh or brush up ?

    • @highlevellistening
      @highlevellistening  2 дні тому +1

      Good question!
      - "Jog my memory" is to remember something, but usually just something simple, like a name, a date, a place or something like that.
      Usually something reminds you of something, and we often say it when we want to help someone else.
      - "Maybe this will jog your memory."
      - "Let me give you a little hint to jog your memory."
      - "When I saw the photo, it finally jogged my memory and I remembered her name."
      So overall, we don't use this with studying or learning, it's more about remember little facts, like names, people, dates, and memories in general.
      Hope that helps!

    I was familiar with them but it never hurts to brush up on some of those phrasal verbs.
    I hope I can get through English learning to some extent sooner rather than later.
    Getting over what we read up on helps reinforce it .
    falling behind is sometimes a good stepping stone for keeping up.

    • @highlevellistening
      @highlevellistening  2 дні тому +1

      Great practice Miranda! I hope these phrasal verbs help you on your English learning journey!
      one quick fix: Going over vs getting over
      going over: to review
      Going over what we read up on helps reinforce it.
      getting over: to feel better (or less sad) about something
      I'm getting over the breakup slowly. I still miss her though!
      hope that helps!

      @highlevellistening oh, sure! I wrote them quickly, so it seems I did not pay attention. Thank you, though I knew those phrasal verbs except flunking out, but was a good review.
