Mingi wrote this song when he was 21 and was on hiatus due to psychological anxiety....i can't imagine what he must have gone through...he also helped in producing this song ..when producer asked him who he wants to perform this with, he said yunho ....they both completed the song perfectly

these two are the definition of a life-time friendship... the fact that Mingi was usually left out because he is a slow eater, so Yunho went to Mingi's school on lunch time even though his school was far away from his, it's just aahhh 😭🥲

Over the years, Mingi and Yunho have talked about their pre-Ateez days (which can be found online), and it's so sweet. I think saving each other is probably exactly how they feel. It gets characterized as being one-sided sometimes, but Yunho is more reserved than Mingi in general, so he's a lot less likely to gush.
Also, Yungi is a valid bias!

It was Mingi, who had the hard time and Yunho was there through his hard times his good times and also came very close. Yunho always thought he was cute when he was shy.

Someone posted that Matz was “I’ll burn the world WITH you” and Youth was “I’ll burn the world FOR you”. I haven’t been able to get that out my mind. My lifelong best friend and I have been through so much together and have been in both places as life has dealt us blows.
Everything is just THAT song. It is so beautiful and hits close to home. Jongho singing this live is… otherworldly.
The "fix on" scratched off Mingi's face kills me every time I watch YOUTH. If I remember right the song is about how it felt for the both of them when Mingi took a hiatus for mental health. Don't quote me on that lol Mingi is a lyrical genius though. Tunnel would have been my emo anthem in the mid 2000s.
I cried a lot watching "youth" too. The lyrics were so deep i think it hits everyone who listen to it. And "youth" is my favourite out of all 4 sub unit songs.
You talking about the feeling after a break up and just having to continue living normal.. I FELT THAT. After a 7 year relationship, it was hard to remember how to even do things alone. Its also hard thinking if I'll ever feel loved again.. Anyways, my life is going amazing and I'm healing day by day. Seeing Ateez at Coachella in a few weeks. I'm so proud of them!

I sob whenever I hear this song. I'm so jealous of Ateez because they have each other through the good times and bad while I've never been more alone. I'm really happy for them tho because I know they deserve it 😊. I recommend watching the Youth MV Making Film. Mingi and Yunho are so freaking cute when they're together! Plus it has really cool behind content of Yunho's emotional dancing and guitar smashing scenes.

Being in my 50s,as my girl shared her Ateez and yungi tidbits during lockdown,i think Mingi grew up having a hard time and dance was his escape,and meeting Yunho became his salvation. (Theyre careful abt what not to say but being so much older,i think mingi grew up helping his mum with her stall, he mentioned sleeping in her bed. He only recently got her an apartment and her own shop while mentioning his dad ran a fairly expensive seafood restaurant.lots of small stuff slipping through that as an older adult implies plenty.)
Anyway,Yunho grew up pretty well with his parents and later stayed with his grandparents who pampered and paid for him while he went to SOPA. Grandparents retired with a house in seoul.they spoke about yunho ensuring he ate well,gifted him a cartier wallet,all while they were in school.even as trainees ateez mentioned Yunho would buy snacks,games and gadgets for the dorm for everyone to share (implications:his gparents or parents or both were dang wealthy)
Yunho pretty much took care of mingi ever since they met,mingi probably gave him that chance to be carefree and silly with no fear of having to be proper. It probably broke him no being able to help mingi with his anxiety (I'm old shawol and minho of shinee said something along the same line regarding Jonghyun). Fans said that Yunho was a lot more serious and muted during down time mingi's hiatus. Mingi feels deeply and openly expresses himself better after hiatus.

Mingi went on hiatus in 2020 due to an anxiety diagnosis and remained in it for almost a year, even skipping a comeback, the kingdom tv show and promotions, so during that time he was away from ATEEZ, and we're led to believe that was when he wrote this song. So yeah...I recommend you to listen do 'untitled', it's a song Mingi released through the ATEEZ yt channel, he wrote and produced it and it's also about his struggles, the video is only audio and lyrics and you don't have to react to you if you don't want to, but I really recommend listening to it and reading the lyrics translation because it's beautiful. Idk I just love Mingi very much, and it's a relief that he talks about all of this so openly to us, I feel understood.

I definitely cried during Youth, January was a rough month for emotional kpop videos (LeeHi's My Beloved was the only one I would add to the list of kpop MV's that had me sobbing in January that you didn't mention in some way in this video). I once read that the more specific a story is the more universal it often is as well. My emotional reaction to Youth came from reading myself into Yunho, as someone who has watched, and sometimes still does, an incredibly close friend struggle with mental health and feeling so powerless in wanting to not loose them to their pain. I always enjoy your reactions and what you share of yourself.
I just wanna put in here that 1. I'm sorry you felt like that when you were younger but also so glad you found your person and you're who you are now! Also 2. Thankyou so much for keeping your feelings in this video, it's awesome that you can show all sides of yourself ☺️ 3. It's so healthy for your body and head to cry so crack on sugar! Hi Laurel, I really love your reaction ! Don't worry, you're not alone, i was the same as you while watching "Youth". I was feeling so seen and understood. Having a traumatic childhood, it's something i know really well. The first time i listen this song with translation i sobed so much. Also as a dancer for me, Yunho's dancing was so powerful and emotionnal. The passion he puts in it was so incredible. On top of that, Mingi's writting is such amazing. I think that why is one of my bias cause he's so amazing, dependable and genuine for me. "Youth" but above all "Tunnel" were so realiable and authentic. I think "Tunnel" was the most difficult one to listen since the lyrics hit me so much. I really love Ateez, I only discoverd them one year ago. They bring me so much joy and happiness but at the same time make me feel so accepte and realise that you can be yourself, independent of your past and all the bad things that live can bring into your life. I'm so thankfull to them as the help me ,with their songs and funny/dependable personalities, throught this tough year.

Youth was my favorite out of the unit songs and it's my favorite video from the unit songs as well!
Mingi is my bias and so I feel a very enormous amount for Yunho and Mingi and their friendship. It's so beautiful how far they've come together.
The song was written by Mingi when he was on hiatus while dealing with his mental health. He didn't finish the lyrics back then and when asked to do a unit song He chose Yunho and Yunho helped him complete the lyrics.
From my understanding, the song is about how adults portray youth as this amazing time that needs to be cherished and that no matter what happens you'll look back and smile so the sadness is just a phase, but Mingi wonders why it wasn't just a phase for him and wonders if he did something wrong.
Yunho's presence is like a beam of light I'm the dark and he wants to help Mingi, but can't because he can only do so much and that hurts him. Which in turn hurts Mingi because Mingi's now upset that how he's feeling is hurting Yunho and it's all a mess of tears (coming from me don't worry)
You're so spot on about them burning their past. The house was them looking on those bad times and burning it to show that they made it out and they moved on and I'm so happy for them and hope they lean on each other and rely on each other and find a place to rest in each other as years go on🥲

I like how with kpop sad songs, if there is any, the choreography is normally some sort of sensual moves. I think the main reason for this is to take the attention away from the lyrics themselves and draw your thoughts to the dance. This may be a way of comforting? the fans, not sure on that one but i still like it :3
