How to Make Long Reach C-Clamps for Under $10 (Strength Test at the End)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 гру 2017
- Using a 3 foot piece of 7/16" threaded rod, 6 nuts, 4 washers, drywall screws, wood glue and some scrap plywood I made 2 long reach c-clamps. These clamps are simple to build and very strong.

Damn, your filming and editing techniques alone make this entertaining to watch!
Excellent. Very clever captive “loose” end on movable jaw!
I'm in the middle of making some of these for my brother and I. I think I might just use some locktite on the nut for the swivel part. I had some old 1/2 inch plywood laying around so I ripped a BUNCH of 2" strips and glued em 3 pieces thick and then glued those together as a bridle joint at the corners. Thanks 4 posting.
This looks like a great way to use up some scraps of plywood I have laying around.
Great clamps! I might need to build a couple myself.
Fast, quick, but to the point. Perfect.
awesome job!!!!! will make a couple of these thanks for the video!!!
Nice clamps.. I need to make some!!
Yours are much easier to make than another video I saw. Great Job!
Well done!!, Must make a pair of those Thanks.
Frank
Thanks great build Been looking for a long time to buy a set like this now I don’t need to cheers
Awesome and Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for am excellent idea...Thanks for sharing. ..
Thak you. Well done. I love your work.
Nice, just the motivation and information I have needed to make some of these! You are by far one of my favorite channels!!!
+Dru 86 thanks
Excellent. Thank you for sharing your excellent video and process.
REALLY enjoyed this video and seeing the process. Sub!
Thanks for sharing
Nice job!!
Cool and strong
Nice job as usual...👍🏻👍🏻I know what I’m making tomorrow! 😆 Thanks for sharing! 😎
+Bill M thanks bill. Send me a pic of them when your done and I'll put it on my website ;)
Excellent !!
Nice clamps
Great job ;-)
good job
nicely done.
Canadian... Robertson screws are great!!
Impressive, cuts out all that fancy finger joint stuff.
That's a much easier way of making them versus Matthias's. I'll def make a couple. Thanks!
look at johns new design for a strong clamp. Uses a rod
just built them work great . i added a 2nd rod 1/2 way between screw and u end of clamp ,seamed like a good idea
Cool brother
This is one of your best builds for a non-power tool. Keep them coming!
Great idea why are there still so many threads showing after you pinned the nut in place? It looked way further out then the what the washer would offset?
Nice
Muito bom, gostei.
Wow...!!! The best channell....!!!!
I need to get into the sound hole of an acoustic 12 string guitar with spruce top and clamp down a loose bridge. without a "c "clamp no hope you would crush the top using only outside force
Good
Is that a Heisz push stick? I much like your laminated plywood approach, producing good strength with no joinery. I have enough scrap plywood to make 4.
Yes john sent me his push stick so i sent him my skill saw push stick. You can see it in most of his videos mounted above his rigid spindle sander to the right of his miter saw.
When I was a kid I use to let the cutoffs float next to the blade on the 15hp tablesaw in the shop till one caught the blade and threw a piece of ash threw the wall behind me..if someone or me where there it would of went through them.
Where do I send my $10? LOL
Do you have the Mastercraft/Ryobi band saw or did you invest in a proper band saw? Just bought the Mastercraft drill press on saturday on sale for 99$.
Anything under 14" bandsaw is a waste of money as far as I'm concerned. I looked at those 2 and went with a 300 dollar kijiji 14" bandsaw even though it was more than i wanted to spend. It you buy those smaller ones you will soon want to upgrade so better not waste the money in my opinion. I like my mastercraft drill press but it does have certain depth and height limitations.
Awesome, i wonder what would happen if you put another threaded rod in the middle.. It would be an awesome clamping jig.. Putting pressure on both the edge and the middle.. Saves space and clamps..
Paul, by removing the material for the second rod, don't you think it would compromise the strength of the arm?
Don't need screws tho the glue is stronger than the screws. Matthias wandel proved that and I was shocked myself!
+Cobalt33 the screws acted more like clamps for the glue up than anything else.
I have a 3 pack of screw drivers and a dull box cutter, can I still make these? thx
+Garrett N I'm not going to say you can't im going to say get a bigger hammer first. ;)
The nut on the inside takes all the clamp load. If the out side nut does for some strange reason it would just push back out? So I just wanted to know if i missed something?
+Andre Lotscher the outside but keeps the threaded rod straight
Got it knew there had to be a reason
My professional opinion....smart guys will use 1/2" readi-rod, and coupling nuts for both handle and head. Anvil should have boatbuilders attitude... using endgrain cuts as the anvil face.... could be made as reverseable ... perhaps a round ball, v-groove, or cylinder shape.
Nice Duke Nukem sample!
06:10 Perhaps you should wear gloves when using the sander to protect your hands?
Awesome clamps by the way ;-)
Using gloves while operating high speed machinery would be a good way to not have hands anymore.
Good job and ouch! How’s the finger? :)
+Sleepydog thanks. Its healing up nicely. ;)
That was definitely a cringey moment.
Plenty strong but you should have rounded the corners on the inside. I would have just drilled them at that point to have rounded edges. Everyone knows that corners are the start of splitting. Check out the history of the De Havilland Comet passenger airliner.
Sounded less like a c-clamp and more like a seagull at 6:26.
Wish I had a table saw
$10 ? How much is Bandsaw/tablesaw/jigsaw blades? How much are sanding belts/stickback & DA sanding pads? Hi spd/Router/ Forstner bits? Rags/paint & sundries?
Alot more than that.
@@DIYBuilds yep it adds up ... been building a 16' (16' x 6' flat bottom 34' hi frt / 24" in bac) boat the last year for a few hundred dollars....Yeah , with a $200 trailer I refurbed ($1000 more) And 1200 /1500 in lumber / $30 a tube boat caulking & adhesives & several hundred SS screws. Prob headin towards 4K ... still need buy good used OB ! ahhh!
.Good Content. I hope this channel Makes it big one day! I would love to be Friends xP
Good job but I wish I had your tools
I'm gonna buy those tools so I can make clamps and save some money
Why did you put the second not on out side of clamp ?
+Andre Lotscher ?
@@DIYBuilds He means "nut".
Ohh well in that case it's for stability.
I'm not trying to be disrespectful, rude, etc. but I do have a question as to "why use wood"? scrap tube steel would have made the same sized deep clamps in about 1/2oth the time, stronger and more durable... plus a lot cheaper (is how I did it for my home shop)...
Was the entire goal to show how to do it with "only wood"? perhaps since you make a lot of really practical wood tools.
I don't have scrap steel
Damn you sanded off your nail...
Might consider a little less caffeine?
👍💐💎
I would've rounded the inside corners
What was used as a filler.
Drywall compound.
You are super lucky you did not have a kick back at 5:10 without a giving knife. You sure need to start being careful
fingers getting very close to blades
scary
Nice but kind of chunky.
Alex Gordon "beafy" :)
Less chunky less strong.
I seriously seriously do not like circ saws.
David Farmer cool beans
My beans were very much not cool watching that.
Sad beans
