7mins later, i wrote it.
Thank you so much! I know this is an old video, but I'm applying to UK schools as an American, and I was really struggling to understand the basic premise of the personal statement, and its difference to US college essays.
honestly i would dare say US college essays are harder. Good luck nonetheless.
I'm doing the opposite to this lmao. Why would you want to come here?
@@gregorybutcher2647 I mean it's a lot cheaper even with international tuition than it is out of state here. Also I like castles.
how did it go? Did you get into the college you wanted? I'm looking into going international as well and, well, am confused.
@@weoweo9 Hi! I'm applying as international too, I could help clarify some thing for you (hoping I myself got them right)
Who else is here on the deadline day 2021 just about to submit? Wish me luck...

Thank you for the tips
it’s literally what unis read to decide weather or not u can be accepted.

Personal statements for Undergraduate Medicine are rarely read because, they are pretty much identical and effectively unverifiable. 99% of candidates are the same age, education, grades, hobbies and extra curricular activities. It's more less a lottery.
You're quite wrong there old chum.. If 99% were of the calibre, then it doesn't make sense for only around 25% to get invited to interviews. You might be correct in saying however that of those who ultimately get places, there is some sense of similarity in terms of their motivation, interests and reasons for wishing to pursue medicine
@@SenthooranKath Nope, UCAT/BMAT cut off plus your predicted grades is what takes you to the interview. Your PS might been read right before the actual interview but at that point it des not really matter. Same for your "references" If they are from their school or local GB, etc., they just copy paste the same stuff as they did every year. I worked on a project where we were suppose to train an agent on about 120k of actual PSs for A100 medicine to work as a supplement to the above mentioned scores and grades. Lets just say that it was not a successful project.
The reality seems to be that from the average of 8 candidates per place, 5 are good enough to be there and there is no real difference between them.
Schools just make sure that they have the correct rratio of students, correct amount of men ,women, minoritries, some poor kids, old people, varius local widening participation schemes, etc. You could have easily lost your place fo simply living in a different post code or be a woman.
@@NeuroScientician that's pretty depressing.. but doesn't that simply mean that making a personal statement as unique and eyecatching as possible a top priority?
@@aokiri3064 don't do that, don't do anything weird or you end up on the wall.
oh my god, i can’t thank you enough for this!!

Do you think applying for medicine in the uk as an international student is more competitive than a uk citizen?
osman hosgor id say no because you have to pay more and so the uni would be getting more money but what do I know
@@jameslomax5281 the admission statistics say the opposite but still thanks for your opinion :)
osman hosgor well also don’t forget if it’s not proportionate there’s obviously gonna be more uk citizens in the university.
@@jameslomax5281 Not really, they have to cash up more but there is no state cover of anything attached to them. Your £9000 is not even remotely what it costs to turn you into a doctor.
thank you for such a concise and helpful video! really appreciate it!

Hellllp ,I wanna apply to several universities .Didn't know where to begin from so I looked up some examples on Google and used them in my personal statement is that okay?😭😭
No this isn’t a good idea. If UCAS sees that 10% or more of your personal statement is plagiarised then it can mean that you won’t get into any of your chosen universities at all so please don’t copy.
@@graceh8050 Yeh true.I have changed it thought
Oh that’s good then. Have you removed the examples you put in from the internet?ســومــة إلحـربـي
@@graceh8050 Well I didn't copy paste anything but I have put some sentences and then matched them with my own words and stuff since it's my first time applying thrugh ucas application tbh and I was really scared as I didn't know what to begin with so I guess that should be fine🤷🏼♀️
@@graceh8050 I don't even have anyone to read my personal statement and see if it's good or I should change something which is a pain in the a$$

Hope you got it done!!

Can some write a personal statement for me?
Thank you for this!
I had a question: I’m taking a gap year and reapplying for medicine, do you think I need to mention my gap year at all?
I was thinking of not mentioning it as there’s not much I have down so far (it’s only the beginning of the gap year).
But I thought a small mention in my Reference (talking about how I’m currently looking for some volunteering and a job as a HCA) would be sufficient.
What do you think?
YOU SHOULD HAVE UPLOADED IT A WHILE AGO
sorry, currently working on a medtech product that will be rolled out in multiple countries - busy busy busy!!
Do you have any ideas or advice on how and where I can find out about any relevant competitions? I’d be really interested in knowing more as this is the first time I’ve heard this idea.
Hii, I repeated year 12 because I failed chemistry in the first year which made me realise medicine is not the career path for me . I’m currently going into year 13 with psychology, philosophy and french . In my personal statement should I mention that I reprobates year 12? Because I don’t think a lot of unis would be happy to hear it and they would be reluctant to give me a position in unis like UCL OR QUEEN MARY OR KINGS . What is your advice ? Because on the contrary it could show how I learn from my failures and I come back . But again I wouldn’t get any unconditional offers by saying I failed . Can you help me pls
I'm not sen but I'd say not to mention it, tho it might be beneficial in the way you said, in how you learn from your mistakes and it has given you a clearer picture on what you want to do with your career/life. They might appreciate that you're honest, and will probably appreciate that you have a clear interest in their course. Maybe say it, maybe don't. I don't know.
i've done no work and the only volunteering i've done is to help kids practice reading at a primary school once a week for 3 months :/// and now it's covid so what the feck can i do
you helped so much, tnks!
Do universities care much about teacher references
Hey can you give some tips on how to prepare for the problem solving in BMAT section 1. I find critical thinking fairly easy but with problem solving I either can’t understand how to do it or take too much time. Thanks
Making some BMAT videos soon
Sen Kath thank youuuu so much
No worries!
Thank you very much. Helps alot :D
this was actually helpful. thank you
