Tasmania 2024 / Pt 3 - Beautiful One Day, Perfect The Next

- Continuing to make our way west up along the Tasmanian coast, while making our way to Stanley, we spend three nights at the Midway Sulphur Creek Campground. Based here we visit the Wings Wildlife Park amongst other locations and finally arrive in Stanley to visit the Nut where the views from the top are mind blowing. We are blown away to witness the little fairy penguins return home to their nests after their time out I the ocean fishing.

I was envious just by the shorts of this video... I never got to see the penguins on any of my trips to Tasmania. Stanley was also a favourite place of mine & I did go up to the top of the nut but it was so windy they wouldn't let us get off & I was terrified coming down so I had my eyes clammed shut & my dad had to tell me when it was time to open them. I am the same on the rail system at Katoomba in NSW. I can walk to the edge of a cliff but I can't cope with going down face first!! Now I shall watch the show!! 😂
Right, so when I traveled to Stanley that penguin area wasn't set up back then otherwise I am sure that we would have been given the opportunity to visit after dinner time. I really enjoyed seeing Highfields. Thank you for taking us around the top of the nut, what a fabulous view, we had rain & overcast weather on that trip & it got sunny the day we left for Davenport. When you were walking along the shops we had a very yummy fish & chip meal in that red brick pub. Also did you know that you could visit one of the cottages just along the top road that was one of our PMs childhood home that is open to the public. Incredible how tiny it was & they bought up a large family. The second time I visited Stanley I wasn't able to do as much as my knee had gone & I was reduced to a walking stick for a season. Eventually, I recovered to not needing a stick until recently but we are now 15 years later.
It is a pity you didn't get a ranger talking about the Tasmanian devils because you would have learnt a lot about them. Those little guys will never be able to go back to the wild as they have been introduced to humans. However there are other wonderful parks & so if visiting another one especially the one on the east coast where they have snakes as well that you can touch if you are game. Not for me, I am sure that they are not slimy but no, sorry I just can't do it!! When you start heading south from Smithson, there is a garden place not far south which I hope that you visit as I would love to know how it looks these days. Also there is a small village which is worth visiting as the blocks of land were sold for a $1 I think from memory but it is a glorious little place & unfortunately I didn't get any photos of it as our bus did the trip as an extra as we were running early on our way north to Stanley. So many little out of the way places so worth seeing. Make sure you visit the west coast & breathe the freshest air in the world. I am glad that you have 3 months so that you are not rushing yourselves. Maybe later you can do the trip again just prior to Christmas & see the place in its spring glory. November & December. It has been such a treat watching this week's episode, keep on enjoying the place, it is well worth the visit. A nice place to retire only it gets too cold for me.
We were so thrilled to see so many Penguins come home from being out fishing, it was more than we had hoped for.

Hi Mick and Sally, we’ve not had significant rainfall for quite sometime so that’s why Oldaker Falls weren’t flowing so well. Beautiful serene spot in Burnie City ❤

Hiya Mick and Sally, beautiful trip. I miss Tas. Some outstanding views from the Nut. And would postulate the reason clockwise was advised, because everyone would have been going the same direction, thus avoiding opposing, and often conflicting foot traffic. Just a thought.
I think you are probably correct, saves everyone clashing o the trail.👍

Hi Mick ... yes Stanley was super busy the weekend you were there ... We'd been at the Rocky Cape National, Dip Falls and the Big Tree at Mawbanna and then decided to head into Stanley for lunch. Those plans were soon scuttled, couldn't even find a parking spot, let alone a feed. 🤣 So it was drive back to the Rocky Cape Tavern for a counter meal. Boat Harbour was just as crazy busy. Burnie has some lovely parkland areas mate. Fernglade, which isn't far from where you stopped off at the river, and the Emu Valley Rhododendron Gardens are also gorgeous. But you may have to do those on your next trip to Tas. 😁 Love the fairy penguins.
Stanley would have to be our favorite for us on the trip so far.
Born (Hobart)and raised on king island. I miss that place dearly. I’m exceptionally unfortunate to live in Sydney and it kills me every day I wake up :(

What a magic video again. We are looking forwards to going back maybe October and looking forwards to it. We too were very comfortable in Stanley. It sure has that something. Looking forwards to the next instalment. YOU soon learn about the lefts and rights driving about, lol

So many beaut places in Tassie, can't believe the number of campers considering Sulphur Creek right between the road and the railroad as an option. I feel like we have so many better options.
It must be the proximity to the water. We enjoyed it there and wouldn't hesitate going back there again. The trains were not an issue for us with only one being heard during the nights we were there.
14:40 a previous boss owned a horse 'farm' on the South coast of NSW. He was Australia's pick for the 2000 Olympics - for the Army's Queen's Equestrian; got a BEM, too. I once asked him how many horses he owned - he said "five" and an ostrich that identifies as a horse. Horses are prey animals (which is why they give birth in darkness), similarly ostriches are prey animals but they can kill foxes and wild dogs. Makes sense to me.

Sure looks dry there in Stanley, it was lush and green when we were there end of Sept. There was about 12 vans at the rec reserve. We climbed the nut on a windy and cold day, and we have been up before, views no less spectacular than on a clear day. Photographer I was speaking to at Salamanca markets said Stanley was his favourite place in Tassie, not sure it is mine but I like it a little bit more raw than most.
They are telling us that Tassie is dry due to the lower than normal rainfall over the last 12 months.

Hi Mick just to let you know that Oldaker Falls can have a fair flow when we get rain but haven't had any in a while the mainland seems to want it all

G'day Mick & Sally, thank you ever so much for your videos. Good old Tassie, my late brother lived in Tassie so we had free accommodation in Devonport until we traveled south to Hobart. But Stanley was my favorite town. But in reality it was hard to pick a favourite. We had travelled about 5,000 kms around Tassie in the 2 3 weeks holidays we went. Anyhow looking forward to more videos from you guys, travel safe.. HooRoo

@@justcruisinwithmicksally837 absolutely, we were on the Murchison Highway on the west coast turned a bend on the road and saw Mt Murchison with cloud cover half way up the mountain, one word SPECTACULAR, there were cars parked on the side of the road cameras in hand and I was one! Anyhow travel safe Seeya later form another South Aussie.. 👍
I like your shows you guys arnt In a hurry and get it right , the others touring in tassie are flying through their videos and always in a bloody hurry it seems all the time , I suppose their making videos to make a profit , but your retired and your videos are more nice to watch your doing great 👍 thanks
