They jacked up the price but dont know anything about cameras. I asked a lady about the shutter speed accuracy and if the light meter works, all she replied was “idk, but they’re antique so that’s why they worth this much”.... AUD250 for an Olympus OM10... 🙄🙄
I was literally just looking at my om1 and admiring it and it's simplicity. I found a bag like that too on offer up with lenses, motor drives, filters, manuals, flashes, om1, om2, pc sync cables, hot shoes, and shutter release cables. For 100 bucks. I love my om1.
When that was new in the early 70's, a kit like that might cost over $600. It was the time when professional cameras were becoming more common purchases for hobby photographers. We had darkrooms and did our own developing. The camera bodies were all metal, generally brass, the lens housing was also metal. They were designed to survive the rigors of heavy, daily use at weddings or in a war zone. You would think of a camera like a mechanic and their tools.
Man, the Canon FTb is such an underrated camera. It's so good for the price. The 135/2.5 you saw there is also excellent as well. It's hyper sharp and a great portrait lens.
Thrift stores are called Charity shops in the UK. I bought a Yashica fxd quartz camera in one recently, it has a 50mm f2 ml lens for £20. I have replaced the leatherette body covering with a kit from Ebay. Cost £11. Now it's pristine and performs perfectly. Great viewfinder.
I recently got an OM-1 with the 50mm f1.4 lens and shot my first ever roll of film in the new year. I never thought I’d get into film photography, for a while I’ve been wanting a new mid-priced digital mirrorless camera like a Canon R6. Really glad I got such a sick piece of gear, it’s beautiful and the lens is legitimately a dream. Absolutely hyped to be part of the community, the OM-1 will not be my last film camera.
Funny that UA-cam recommended me this video after doing research on the OM-1. Last month, I got very lucky and found a red camera bag with a black Olympus OM-1 (non-MD), three lenses, filters, winder, plus a Sekonic light meter. My local Savers probably didn't even open the bag because I managed to get everything for $10.99!! That is definitely my thrift find of the year so far. Thanks for the video! Been following your channel for a little bit now and I've been learning bits and pieces of photography through you and a couple other places.
Light seals are easy to replace. Go to Michaels craft store and for about a dollar you can buy a sheet of black felt with sticky stuff on the back. cut thin strips to go in the groves of the camera and a little wider strip to replace the strip along the back of the camera door. It really is a five or ten minute job and it won't turn to goo like the black foam.
I saw some old cameras at an antique store. The place is huge. Didn't see all but getting ready to go back soon. These places are gold mines for collector's.
The whole bag looks like a keeper to me! About the manual: as you see it is only a small booklet, of which a large part will likely be about how to take good photographs. Contrast this with modern digital cameras where you get a 150-page paperback book with endless, tedious descriptions of all the different menu options, and not one word on actual photography.
REI ultra pod is just for doing a selfie shots the grip was probably for putting the camera on a tree limb and shooting at level. The ultra pod is better for placing on rocks or something more stable!
in my opinion, the Olympus OM-1 is the best 35mm SLR ever made! I have mine with me where ever I go, it's my daily driver! you got very lucky finding that set, I'm very jealous hahah! it was a nice bag for it too! keep up the great content!
That's so dope man, that's such a good feeling when you find a bargain like that cant pass is it up. Had something somewhat similar happen last week, I am a Real Estate Photographer was photographic a clients home and before I left she said she had something for me. Brings out a bag actually very similar to the one shown in this video. In the bag were a Minolta Maxxum 7000, Canon T50 and my fav. one Canon AE-1. Just got a motor drive for the AE-1 put on a new camera strap and film it has become my absolute fav. camera. I tested all cameras and they all work. Inside the bag were also multiple zoom lenses, flash, filters etc etc even a cleaning kit just like the one in your bag oh and also a lot of documents, original manual guides for the cameras. So dope man, ty for your vids definitely inspired me to shoot more film. Blessings brother, be safe out there, keep on shooting, have fun.
i found a camera bag for $45 and inside was a pristine konica autoreflex t-3 with a hexanon 50mm f1.7, a hexanon 80-200 f3.5 zoom lens, uv filters, cable release, sunpak electronic flash and alot of old posters and catalogue pages etc and the funniest bit of paper was an old voucher for 3 dollars off film developing at a local grocery store chain that expired 2 weeks before i was born
Great find. A couple weeks ago I found a Minolta Maxxum 7 along with a 7D and a Maxxum 5, a Maxxum 7000 and a whole pile of lenses and a set of Cokin filters and a large Lowpro bag for 200. I thought I had won the lottery with that. I have been wanting a Maxxum 7 for awhile now.
I picked up the Zuiko 35mm f2 on eBay a couple of years back with a bunch of random other stuff for about £40, and they go for hundreds now, probably my best find
Ultrapod is a mini table tripod, you can mount it to a tree or railing with the velcro. Need to add on a Acra Swiss QR plate though. The pedco ultrapod size in the video also suggest that it more for action camera or maybe under 1kg load.
I have that Canon FD 135mm f/2.5 S.C. breech-lock lens and it's friggin' amazing! Some of my all time favorite portraits with that lens. You could easily sell it for double the asking price at the thrift shop.
Used to go to my local swap meet. Found all my lenses and gear in that area but now they just sell knock off junk and baby clothes!. Really miss what some of the vendors used to sell.
Keep it! Or at least do a video shooting it before finding it a new caring home. I got a mint condition one in Seoul while I was traveling (wrapped up in the original box). What a joy to use and the lenses are as amazing condition. This was my first entry into film and that camera led me to sell all my digital gear I loved it so much.
In Australia the thrift stores /op shops don't bump.up the camera prices but they just rarely have anything , I have only gotten a few good ish cameras , 1 , a Minolta x700, 2, zorki 4k and 3, an Olympus Stylus , and they were are dirt cheap but I am just disappointed that there is almost no cameras.
Best I found is the British Heart Foundation ebay page, everything starts at £5 and you can sneak some good deals when nobody else bids, saw a good condition Contax T2 go for like £500 there about 6 months ago too
I agree with the other replies, which fit with my experience. You can get bargains if you are patient, and UK charity shops on eBay are often a good place to find them, plus you will be supporting a good cause.
curious, when you said you were going to rate the Kodak gold at 500iso, why would you want to be under exposing an expired film? just curious if you meant 50 iso or if there was actually a reason you said 500!
@kingjvpes wondering if you could do a video on the Olympus OM1 MD??? one was gifted to me. the videos i've come across are not helpful...so wondering if you could put one together, explaining the features, nuances, how to use, etc... thanks in advance
I been at the Vallejo Ecothrift and man it's busy. The Sacramento stores are less busier but their prices are getting outrageous. Still though, I've nailed some good finds.
I found a mint om2-n kit with 2 lenses, bag, spare windows and window cleaners, flashes and everything for 70 euros but it was just advertised on a 2nd hand website. I will sell it here next week for over 200 bucks
Awesome find. The OM-1 is my go to analog camera. Works fine without a battery and Zync air hearing aid batteries are super cheap if you want to use the lightmeter. #olympusgang 😋
It’s crazy cause about last year I had thrift store find of a camera bag containing om1n with a 50mm 1.4 & 135mm 2.8. Unfortunately camera didn’t work and irreparable and the 135mm can’t stop down but for 40$ it was worth it
REI Ultrapod: probably a collapsible tabletop tripod branded for REI, a major seller of outdoors/hiking equipment. Overall, what a surprise thrift find. Not personally a big fan of Olympus OM stuff, but I really like the bag. Looks like this kit has been sitting in grandpa's closet for about 25 years. Doubt the film is worth the cost of chemicals to process it at age 25+ years and no cold or frozen storage.
I have a same Olympus with that sweet Zuiko f1.4 lens, and man, that thing is SHARP! It easily beats most other brands easily with it's performance, nice find tough (Y)
Was someone in the background speaking Filipino during that first part? Edit: I commented too early. That thrift store lady is definitely Filipina haha Such a great find, man! I wish film cameras could be that cheap here in the Ph too.
I subscribed a few weeks ago., totally love your content, style, everything. I recently bought a Canon New F-1. I’ve shot Astrophotography via a DSLR, but I wanted to ask/suggest if there is any chance you would shoot a video detailing how to shoot star trails, etc? Just a thought man, 🤔 Just love this film stuff!!
Hey brother amazing find! Congrats, hey I just wanted to recommend using 90% isopropyl alcohol to sanitize, I’ve found using Clorox wipes can leave a sticky residue on certain surfaces and isn’t necessarily fast drying but IPA is very fast drying and safe to use around electronics and can even be used on lenses to get the initial dust off before you use a lens wipe! Just wanted let you know but congrats brother
Not all Zuiko 50/1.4’s are made the same, if you get the right one then it’s a stunning lens, otherwise you’re better off with the 1.8. Hell of a find though!
You said people use that flatbed scanner to scan their negs. How do you use a regular non film scanner to scan film? I've tried with my phone screen and even a USB light table turned upside-down over the film on the scan bed. Love the vids.
Also, Why did you say you would shoot the expired 200 iso film at 500 "Just to be safe"? Why would that be safe? wouldn't you want to expose at 100 iso to get more light on the film?
Dude I pulled up to my local eco thrift and picked up my first film camera, a Minolta XG-M for $54 and they also had a Minolta 7000 and a Pentax super program
Hot take: The F Zuiko 50mm f1.8 is better than the G Zuiko f1.4. Not only is it sharper at every aperture but the lens is physically smaller. Sell that 1.4 & snag the 1.8...it's just a better lens.
5:40 yoooo that’s my camera (I have the model), it was my grandfather and he also had a telephoto lens exactly like that! He lost it tho, have you ever tried this camera? If you have, how good is it? Haven’t been able to try mine cause I have no film ☹️🤷🏻♂️
Mate, don't talk about how the camera is such a great deal in front of the employees. They'll mark up the prices even more
My thought exactly
Our thrift stores are getting expensive on cameras. They are onto us!
they totally are.
They know that the cameras sell well so they jacked up the prices...well in my location also.
Videos like this are the reason second hand cameras are going up in price!
They jacked up the price but dont know anything about cameras. I asked a lady about the shutter speed accuracy and if the light meter works, all she replied was “idk, but
they’re antique so that’s why they worth this much”.... AUD250 for an Olympus OM10... 🙄🙄
@@marieejayne a local shop wanted $299usd for a Nikon F3 you couldn't cock the shutter on.

Killing it, man. 100K right around the corner!
Thanks Matt!! 🙏🏽
I'm more impressed that you found Clorox wipes.
bahaha

Agreed. I inherited an FTB QL and I love it. The 135mm/2.5 is amazing too.
Dude that's such a good find! The OM-1 / 50 1.4 combo is one of my favorite 35mm setups!
Might wanna shoot the Kodak gold at 50 and not 500 😂😂 (sure it was a slip of the tongue)
i was questioning my own knowledge and thought i went stupid lmao
I recently got an OM-1 with the 50mm f1.4 lens and shot my first ever roll of film in the new year. Nice find! I’d be interested in seeing how you replace the light seals
Light seals are easy to replace. I used to buy them all up when the prices were low a few years ago. Now, I don't even bother. It's fun to find them though.
I went to that store when they had that camera by itself for sale. They just happened to make a goodie bag. Nice purchase!
DAAAAAMN! That's gotta be your most legendary find so far. That F1.4 lens alone is worth more than you paid for the whole bag!
I saw some old cameras at an antique store. The place is huge. Didn't see all but getting ready to go back soon. These places are gold mines for collector's.

That REI piece is a mini tripod! Great find. Enjoy man
Out here in the valley the smoke is stupid bad. You can see a fog of smoke every day. Just like last year when the fires were just as bad.
REI ultra pod is just for doing a selfie shots the grip was probably for putting the camera on a tree limb and shooting at level. The ultra pod is better for placing on rocks or something more stable!

That C clamp thing is a mount for attaching to a car window, a fence slat, a ships rail and so on... Kind of like a tripod..

@@suzannelopez9896 nice! I got a 35mm 2.8 for about $30 (300sek) just because it had some minor cosmetic damage

I found an AE-1P in our local goodwill for $25!
what part of the store are they in?
