On one occasion... a brahman heard that another brahman had gone forth from the home life into homelessness in the presence of the Blessed One. Angered and displeased, he went to the Blessed One and on arrival, insulted him with rude, harsh words.
When this was said, the Blessed One said to him: "What do you think, brahman: Do friends or relatives come to you as guests?"
    "Yes, occasionally they do"
"And do you serve them with food and drinks?"
    "Yes."
"And if they don't accept those offerings, to whom do those offerings belong?"
"If they don't accept them, the offerings still belong to me."
"Likewise, brahmin, we-who do not abuse anyone, who do not scold anyone, who do not quarrel against anyone-refuse to accept from you the abuse, scolding and quarrel that you let loose at us. It still belongs to you.
Brahmin, one who abuses his own abuser, who scolds the one who scolds him, who fights against the one who fights with him-he is said to partake of the meal, to enter upon an exchange. But we do not partake of your meal; we do not enter upon an exchange. It still belongs to you, brahmin! It still belongs to you, brahmin!”
The Brahmin: "The king together with his court know this of Master Gotama - 'Gotama the contemplative is an Arahant' - and yet still Master Gotama gets angry."
    The Buddha:
How can anger arise in one who is angerless,
In the tamed one of righteous living,
In one liberated by perfect knowledge,
In the Stable One who abides in peace?
“One who repays an angry man with anger
Thereby makes things worse for himself.
Not repaying an angry man with anger,
One wins a battle hard to win.
“He practises for the welfare of both-
    His own and the other’s-
When, knowing that his assailant is angry,
He remembers to maintains his peace.
“When he achieves the cure of both-
    His own and the other’s-
Those unskilled in the Dhamma consider him a fool.

Is it ok for a beginner to practice contemplation of death instead of mindful breathing in order to aid him getting the right view?

“No U” is the ancient wisdom method of responding to abuse. “These words still belong to you” 😄

A speeding train takes a long time to slow down and finally stop. The scientific view gained momentum. Units don't matter, only mass matters. If only they wanted to slow down a bit, they would see their addiction, which is life in a constant rush. Constant work, duties, commitments, sacrifices, the pursuit of what you don't have. And yet everyone would like to have peace of mind...

Basically, you can not make the outer world a better place for everyone. This is because people have different opinions on what makes the world a better place. This will always be so. By trying to satisfy one group of people's idea of a better world, you actively make it a worse place for others.
I've felt this way for a few years. Even before I got into Buddhism. I'm glad that it seems like I was correct.
The piece I didn't have before was that really wanting anything to be a certain way from the outside world, well, delusional is the nice way of putting it.
I feel like so many people don't understand that Metta and everything else really is for the person practicing it.
Ajahn Sona has said the same thing pretty much.

we are all one consciousness - there can never be a division at this point - the awake consciousness is the outermost student.

Ah, but you just spoke your own rebuttal of there being no division.
If one must be awake to be aware that we are all one consciousness, that must mean that there are those who are not awake.
      Therefor, there must be division.
This is why Theravada Buddhism pretty much either leaves out or walks the middle path between “we are all one" and wants people to work on themselves.
