The only car channel that does normal everyday cars. Keep up the good work mate 👍
Hmm, try Hubnut or Furious Driving. I think you'll find they feature "normal" cars as well. Whatever, I love the variety of this channel; silly gas guzzling Range Rovers alongside cheap city cars like this. Fabbo!
@@smoothmicra I can confirm both of those are excellent channels as well, especially if you're into old British cars like me. :)
This and car throttle are the only channels I hunt through to see if they have any new videos.
Said in my best David Attenborough voice. “Now here we have the Panda in its natural habitat avoiding petroleum stations”
Very, very underrated car. Over the time I had over 34 cars, but the Panda 4x4 twinair is in top 5 of them. It is practical, hugely dependable and amazingly fun to toss anywhere you can think of. I daily one and i can honestly say it would be the perfect car for 99% real world motoring situations, city, mountain, beach, adventure and even motorway.
The Panda 4x4 has always been a cracking little car... I was really waiting (hoping) you`d just turn off the road and drive it straight up a field !
I had two MK1 4x4 pandas in the 80s and 90s and now a 4x4 cross 2019. The perfect car for up here in the Scottish Highlands. Unstoppable in the snow and great fun passing all the stuck £50K cars spinning their wheels when the snow arrives
Great cars in the rough and snow, don’t mock it it will piddle on most 4x4🚗🏴☃️
We hired one a couple of years ago , mainly because it was about the only car available , to do a daily drive to ski slopes . We didn’t have high hopes but it was amazing climbing up the steep unsalted access road with four adults and ski gear on the roof. We had huge respect for the car by the end of a week, never missed a beat and would start however cold and icy .
Never been a Fiat fan but could see me owning a Panda 4x4 , another great video 👍
I love the little Panda. How much cooler than a Countryman?
The countryman is a dreary SUV, the Panda is a proper hatch with a proper, permanent 4x4 system, like it has been from 1984
@@DavidColex I think the Mk 3 is another 'intelligent' four wheel drive system that kicks in when needed, rather than a permanent one?
Fiat has always been building good engines. My first car was a 45 HP Uno with that 800ccm fire engine. It was still running strong with 250k kilometers. but unfortunately there was no metal left under my butt because of the rust. but that engine didn't burn a drop of oil still. RIP.
Sadly had a bad experience with my panda, it had the 1.1 petrol engine which gave problems within first 2000 miles, the dealer and fiat customer services were diabolical it took 7 weeks and two dealerships to sort it when it was diagnosed with having 2 miss matched pistons,a few thousand miles and six months later i could hear engine sounding not right so sold it with less than 8000 on clock.....
tuvla[ the Fire Engine in the Uno was 999cc. Engines were strong in those day but the gear lever used to be a bit of a lucky dip. It was downhill after that for FIAT group.
I had one as well, from brand new in 1988 - more metal on a baked beans tin but the engine was fabulous and utterly reliable.
@@steve1962 yeah you definitely didn't wanna have an accident in that thing. Fun fact: many Uno keys worked also in other Unos. My cousin's BF had an Uno too and I was able to start it with my key.
I had the original 4X4 panda, and it was a tank, I could go anywhere with it, having spent years in the army and driving land Rovers, I am certain I could put my Panda where even a Land Rover would struggle. It was great in the snow as well. I seem to remember the tyres were expensive (Dunlop town and country tyres) but that was what really gave it that go anywhere ability. If this new Panda is anywhere near as good, I would highly recommend it.
They really are great cars. We live in rural Ireland and we've had ours since new ( in-fact, it's exactly the same year and colour as your test car) It's been absolutely brilliant . No problem with it all . Best car Fiat make!
In the Italian Dolomites, I’m pretty sure this is the only car you’re allowed to buy. So many people have them. 😂 I can see why though, they’re perfect for that region!
I have a normal 2wd Panda from 2012.
No issues, not a single tiny issue in ten years! Unbelieveble!
Most reliable car I’ve ever had.
And in my life I’ve had:
3 Alfas, 2 BMW, 2 Citroens, many other Fiats, 2 Autobianchi…
Panda is a fantastic little car
Would love one with winter tyres on to sail past everyone else on a snow day.
@Christ in Shades I have Nexen and Hankook all-season, Mud & Snow, 3-Peak tyres on three cars. First thing I do; on with the All-seasons. Worth every penny.
I sail past everyone else on a snow day on the standard Goodyear 4Season tyres in my twinair Cross. Excellent offroad as well, I get places where friends in a pickup just can't pass.
@@terencejay8845 I also can vouch for the Hankook Kinergy all season tyres very good in winter as well as wet weather and superb in the dry also! I have them fitted to my Fiat Panda 4x4 all round.😎👍
Oh wow I've been hoping you would review one of these!! 😎👍😊
I've had a Fiat Panda 4x4 Antarctica for over a year now, it has the same 875cc 2 cylinder twinair turbo engine. The little 0.9 engine was the thing I was most apprehensive about prior to buying but honestly with 85bhp and such a light car, makes for quite a nimble little performer!! You quickly forget it is a small capacity engine, the 6 speed box definitely helps to keep the revs in that 'happy zone'.
I would definitely recommend the winter pack, and look out for optional extras such as reverse sensors etc There are a few special editions that have various extra options as standard, mine came with rear privacy glass, Bluetooth etc
Pros- Economical to run and own, cheap to service, £30 annual road tax, cheap and plentiful parts shared with the 500 and punto!
What I like most about our Panda, it is unique, I've never seen another exact model while out and about, only seen 2 other 4x4 models and they were the cross version with different front and rear ends!
It's quirky, robust and above all lots of fun to drive and that roaring engine note is very grin inducing, it's hard not to rev it through the gears!
I've had 54mpg out of it but expect mid 40s as an average.
Cons- smallish boot, not great leg room in the back, ours has 3 seats in the back but I can't imagine 3 adults being very comfortable in the rear?
However, its mostly just me and the wife and our small pet dog Max, occasionally have a couple of grandchildren travelling in the back and it's fine for space!
In conclusion it's the perfect urban warrior, city car for us, with the ability to tackle those weekend warrior adventures wherever you choose to take it. 😎👍
I was gobsmacked at the tax bracket on the 0.9 engine panda 4x4 cross and the emissions are more than my 1.4 Abarth @180bhp
@@roberthowell3737 I think they changed the tax bracket after 2017 or so, mine is a 2014 and is fixed at £30 per year road tax.
Is yours higher, around £170 ish?
@@pdtech4524 yes... the new panda cross comes in @ £150 I think that’s due to its emissions. Still fancy swapping my Abarth for one though🤔
@@roberthowell3737 Ah right, I guess £150 is not bad really compared to some SUV type 4x4 vehicles!
They're trying to steer owners towards EVs so had to increase these smaller capacity engined cars.
Mine at £30 is ridiculously low really 😳 I'm sure I used to pay more for a 125cc motorbike way back years ago lol😁
I'm sure you could pick up a very low miles 2017 cross and enjoy the £30 tax break lol👍😎
A nice positive review. You've got the best engine option there which I don't think was emphasised enough - it's the best option for people using the cars for more off-road driving; the diesel is sluggish and has no where near enough low down torque, due to it's turbo. The entry angles on the newer MK4s are slightly better than the MK3s as you briefly touched on aswell. The 4x4 system IS clever, but sadly nowhere near as good as the manual systems found in the first generation MK1 and MK2. Would have been nice to see you take it through some rough terrain but understand it's borrowed! We have a number of these in our club and they do just fine keeping up with the classics. I you ever want to bring one along to get muddy please get in touch!
We have to pick you up on a small error im afraid - your Panda is a MK4 (3rd generation), not a MK3 (second generation), MK1 and MK2 cover the first generation. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
I had a normal FWD Panda for 10 years, and it was the most reliable car I've ever owned, and solid as a rock. It saw me through six jobs and 40,000 miles. I miss that car.
Fiat sells them now with 2000 euro down price. You could catch em for good price still
I love the green colour! I do like a green car. My mum had a F reg 1988 panda fire model, white with a green interior, that was a fun little car and never missed a beat. I do like your jumper too.
Alex yeah my mum had a Mk 1 1000cc FIRE, years ago. Always remember how cheap but cheerful it was. Especially when my Mk1 Capri 3000 GTXLR was off being restored to its original glory.
Allan Prits nah with in a week of it coming out of restoration some bloke made me an offer I couldn't refuse. It did look like a million dollars tho, glacier white, green tinted windows and white leather interior. Truly a stunning car in the day.
Had a panda and loved it,needed something bigger so got the 500l and love that ,after having lots of different makes over the years ive been buying Fiat since 2013 and can honestly say they are great fun cars and have yet to have any trouble with any of them,if they keep their prices low i will be buying another. Forget those boring same old German cars or problematic French one's the Italians certainly know whats needed in a smart stylish quality car go on get one you wont be sorry.
I know only one owner of this model, a diesel. He is a retired farmer who ran pickups for decades. Bluntly he loves it, he put a set of knobblys on and it goes anywhere my Mitsubishi will, probably a bit further in mud tbh. Turning up on shoots with the "big 4x4" set in a small and capable car shows off what they are. Brand snobs. Nothing wrong with small 4x4's. Brill review again thanks, the best motor reviews on the tube.
Always enjoy your insight & humour, well done.
I have the 1.3 diesel cross on a 2015 plate and I absolutely love it, the feeling you get when in snow and there’s a £50,000 + 4x4 slipping and sliding all over in snow going nowhere fast and in a panda 4x4 you fly by with a big grin upon your face! If I’m correct I think it was 2015 when they sadly stopped making the diesel models, I was fortunate that when I got mine last year it only had done 13,000 miles so I have many more years of very cheap motoring, and if anyone is thinking of getting one I’d definitely go for the winter pack as there’s nothing better than heated seats to take that chill off.
This is no doubt the best small car I’ve ever owned and I can even get a large double dog box in the back, with the seats down granted but there’s only me and two black labs and this car does me fine and we’ve never been stuck yet.
Panda 100hp was the one! 👌
I used to have one of those, very nice car but awful ride, you felt every single bump & pebble in the road.
Me too, fantastic on smooth roads and great fun at traffic lights and roundabouts as you rocketed off, pricey fast cars were suddenly looking at your pipes and very unhappy seeing a Panda going faster than them, up to 50 it could show most things up unless they were ready for it. If they could have sorted the suspension over bumps would have been a great car but it was always a lot of fun.
The wife had a 100hp for 7 years before swapping it for a TA 4x4, The 4x4 wins hands down for comfort and is only slightly slower away from the lights. Plus the fun factor in the snow means that the 4x4 wins out of the two.
Awesome, bought the Cross version in Tuscany Green new a couple of months back. Great car, the little TwinAir engine does make you smile! Also had a 500X Cross Plus 2.0D 4x4, so hoping you'll do a video on that as well. I really liked mine.
On my mates farm the panda 4x4 was the ONLY vehicle that could get in and out of a boggy field -landrovers and a tractor got stuck and had to wait for thesummer to dig them out.
To see this light insect of a car p---s all over the 4x4 brigade on shoot days was a laugh. Great vehicles for nasty terrain. I'd have one as a pet.
congratulations Matt another PROPER review, the videos are just getting better and better, love the different angles ect, love it
I've never felt comfortable admitting it before, but I Bloody love the Panda 4x4. Always have. Great video again mate!
Had one as a hire car on holiday in Italy. Fell in love with it. Great cars.
Great review, I'm now on my 3rd Panda 4x4 which is a Twinair with the winter pack, I've also had a diesel & the fire engine. I've loved them all - they always bring a smile to my face & like others have said are fantastic when the "white stuff" comes down.
Love these pandas, in fact I love most small fiats especially the panda but also the old Secento , these are great fun to drive, really revvy and make you feel your going a lot faster
I love the little Panda when I worked for Fiat I had a choice of cars and I chose either the 4x4 or the Cross and first 2 was a bright yellow Cross in the 1.3 diesel then I had a green 1.3 diesel 4x4 and a Blue 4x4 twin air.
They was such good fun to drive and always made me smile and I was in my mid to late 20s
I've always found 4X4 Pandas so cool, even as a young lad when I first saw one on FifthGear against a Range Rover off road, so capable.
Just bought one before saw this video.Highly delighted !
Took one of these from Barcelona to Andorra for the weekend. No complaints at all. 2 small suitcases in the boot, some rucksacks and a lot of tax-free booze on the way back down! Easy to park and not too sluggish. I was pleasantly surprised.
The engine on this wee car is evidence of car development. Back in 1981, I bought a Masda 323GT, brand new it was 86 bhp 4cly 1600cc now 2 pot gets 80bhp amazing
Right. My 3 cylinder Mini Cooper's engine develops more power than the legendary Buick/Rover V8!
Great video as always, glad you made this video! I know I commented asking for this on your dacia duster video! Good job as always, the panda 4x4 is on my all time favourite cars, would love to own one at some point.
I had one. Loved it. Still miss it! Thank you for the video.
Italian farmers car of choice , perfect rural shopping trolley, space saver on the school run , yes ladies you can still wear your dressing gown and onesies in one
Great video again mate loving the variety and I personally think these panda are understated
Ahh yessss, you made my working weekend with this mate
So now you have a camera car filming you? That's fancy, innit? Almost like watching TV now.
Total noticed that too! Not only a following one or leading one, but a drive-by as well! Just teasing... love your channel, keep up the good work...
I own a panda for 9 years! I still find it enjoyable! Thank you!
I just love the Panda in general and the idea of a 4x4 is something I would consider for snow etc. Definitely my kind of car, cheap to buy, cheap to run with a go anywhere attitude. What's not to love?
Quirky nice looker and a concise resume. Enjoyable as always!
This is my affordable dream car... I think they look awesome in just that green, very jealous. If only I could fit 4 actual people in I’d have it in no time!
I had an original 2wd panda as my first car, and it was fantastic in the snow. Great memories of it
Bought our lhd,1.3 diesel multijet 4x4, army green model in 2011; Still going strong & just as comfortable as ever to drive & ride in.
Another great vlog, cracking little car.
Used to know someone with an 80s 4x4 one of these. It went places other 4x4s couldn't.
My father has it. On a Xmas eve two years ago, we were heading for a party at a hunters lodge up the mountain and it started snowing heavily. We came across couple of different SUVs that were stuck and we just went pass them without any trouble. It is like a little mountain goat, hardly any obstacle for it.
What a cracking little car 👍😉 Having owned 4 Fiats during the late 90`s, Im totally on board with this - I have so many fond memorires with these cars. Cheap to run, good looking and so much compact fun! My smile didnt fade, until I upgraded to a brand new Alfa 156....😳☠️😉 GREAT review as always !!! PS: first car I ever drove myself - at the tender age of 13 - was a bright orange Fiat 127, 1st gen 😉👍
I had a 1.3 diesel and it went like fury, absolutely no where it wouldn’t go.
We get snowed in some times roughly 3ft of the stuff, so I let it do the ‘thinking’ to
go over it, got through 2ft but it pushed so much in front it got stuck, backed up
pressed the electronic lock differential tried it again, STRAIGHT OVER THE WHOLE lot
all 3ft if and passed 4 stuck range rovers!!
If it only just had a slightly better boot, they’d have a cracking little car.
This guy is the best car reviewer going...tells you everything about the vehicle & I love the ' sense of homour ' that goes with the review..keep reviewing i say.!
Many years ago I had the original 4x4 Panda & it was amazing & could keep up with most of the other 4x4's I've owned incl RR's, Defenders, Disco's Subaru's & Suzuki's. My Mrs currently owns the 1.3tdi Fiat 500 which I've often tried to convince her to swap it for a 4X4 Panda but she's having none of it! So one day, maybe, maybe not we'll have a 4x4 Panda but at the moment no. 😞👍
Had a go in a MkI some years back. It was a reall hoot off raod and kept up with Land Rovers too.
I wrote a review on the Panda 4x4 when they came out in 1988 took it off road on a pheasant shoot, great little car
I absolutely love my 2020 Cross. It will be in the family for many years to come
Could hardly see you in the car Matt, your jumper matched the interior perfectly 😂great vid gets really good reviews this little car.
I would have thought living on the edge of the Peak District was reason enough to own one! The original Panda 4x4 had engineering from Steyr Puch, that's proper 4x4 heritage.
My mum and dad had a little Fiat Panda. When the snows came it was one of the few cars beetling about.
When we had real winters a guy who lived in my village had the Mk1 4x4 Sisley and was the only person driving anywhere when it snowed ,amazing little cars...👍
A great review. I have a 2019 cross in the same colour. I look forward to driving it more than my 2017 Focus ST. Your review helped me decide to buy the Cross. Pleased I did.
Are you sure that's what happens when you press the City button? I imagine some Arab oligarchs showed up and gold plated it and then the Gallagher brothers appeared in the back every weekend.
Got the even harder Cross version. 37 mpg but otherwise stunned at how good they are particularly when it snowed. Up the high dales, drove round an Audi Quatro saloon spinning his wheels . Amazing cars.
Good on you for the state's friendly posting time
I've got a regular Panda (2wd) and it bossed it through the recent snow (I saw stranded SUV drivers baffled as my Panda nonchalantly flew by). So imagine how good the 4x4 version would be....
Did you have any reliability issues? I like the look of quite a few FIATs now, but the old bad reputation keeps me wondering ....
@@kwakkers68 Apart from consumables and wear items I've not had any serious issues. The 1.2 engine is a proven 40yr old design which -as long as you renew the cambelt every 5yrs is absolutely bulletproof, the Twin-Air is a more complex affair with its clever valve system and turbocharging but I've heard with correct servicing and the correct oil they aren't all that bad.
Multijets are tough units - they are used in them 10yr old Vauxhall Combos that Royal Mail still use (the ones with the faded chalky salmon pink paintwork) and they withstand a tonne of daily abuse 😁
@@steveGee5787 thanks for replying, appreciated. Sounds promising. You ever tried doing the belt yourself? Awkward? Or, failing that, how much does it cost?
@@kwakkers68 I've been driving Fiat for more than 17 years and I can tell you: No liability issues!
Just yesterday, I did it again and bought my third Fiat, a Panda again.
fiat at its best small utility cars. Today with safety and good looks. Mechanically sound and easy to repair. Hired many abroad and excellent car for all meets most needs as utility vehicle.
I've always had a sneaky admiration for the Panda after being on holiday in Tuscany and, whilst wandering around the lovely city of San Giminano watching a middle aged lady drive up a set of wide steps in one, steps(a cobbled street with 4inch/10cm risers) obviously designed for pack horses in a bygone era and tourists in the present.
She then parked it at the top and went into which was obviously her town house,it seemed like she did every day to get home.
Mrs had one of these when her car was in for "some work".......got to admit it was so easy to use.......most of the cars I have had require some thought before setting off if you know what I mean.........this was just like putting your trainers on.
Did like it.
I've owned 3 fiat Pandas (2wd) in my life and just love them! I hope to get a 4x4 model one day. That'll be fun!
Regular cars in special versions extraordinarily reviewed by host, 'sit down' comedian and excellent salesman, Matt, lots of fun, thank you 👏
You really need to get a Fiat multipla on here! Straight away!
Lol my granddad rented a multipla for me and him to go around in, instead of his black cab , when I stayed with him for a weekend and it was a strange but fun car for me as a child.
Love the jumper is in keeping with car lol, great review as usual Matt
Big fan of this generation of Panda. We bought one a few years ago albeit not the 4x4. 1 year old, 20k miles, as-new condition. Clearly part of a motorway fleet or similar; still had matching original tyres. £5k!
There's just something about Italian cars that speaks directly to the heart, and it's not just random patriotism on my side (I think Japanese cars have pretty much the same qualities) - I don't know how to describe it, other than "the shape of dreams". Anything from the design to how they drive and feel in your hands makes me feel warm inside, there's a passion and sincerity that few manufacturers put in their work. Whether it's a spunky Fiat Panda, a stylish Alfa Romeo or the latest of Ferrari's mind-bending creations, something about them just makes my heart happy.
Your analogies are brilliant mate. “Beanie baby with war paint” had me in bit then I heard the panda hiring a personal trainer to get jacked haha. Absolutely brilliant mate, I am loving your channel thank you.
I have a panda 4x4. Had it since new in 2014, and it doubtful we will get rid of it. It’s a great go anywhere in any weather car especially good in snow. I wouldn’t call it a city car though, as most are seen in rural setting where they are invaluable as second cars. Is more of a small SUV.
Good review.
I have a friend here in N Yorkshire who gets all starry eyed and tearful remembering his departed MK1. He has a MK2 that he has done nearly 100k in and is now mothballed in his barn and current daily is a Panda Cross - he's a working farmer by the way.
Excellent, if he would like to remember the good old days of the classic Panda please get in touch. We are based in North Yorkshire and have a number of 80s classic 4x4s in the area.
I've just purchased a Panda Cross 4x4. Your video made my decision easier. Cheers!
Had a fiat 132 2L and a brava over the years . Both horrendous for rust on the 2L and ECU issues regularly on the brava ( nearly new car ) . Learn't my lesson .

Thanks very much Matt. Just happened to be looking for new used small car for family duties, watched this video when it popped up in my subscribed list, and went and bought one - also in green. 😀
@@HighPeakAutos I really like your videos, thanks for all the time and energy you spend making them. It was good to compare this with the 500 video you did last year on your drive. I showed both to my family when making the Panda decision and choosing between them. Super helpful. Just need to be careful watching these reviews, otherwise I will just keep buying more cars I don’t really need - especially with this new click-and-collect model. Almost too easy 😀
The Panda 4x4 once purly developed for the Carbinieri to use in the Italian Alps with their small roads has become a true 4x4 icon due to its versatility and practicality.
A good MK1 80's Converted by Steyr in Austria Panda has entered the 5 digits pricerange in the classic carmarket.
The mountain goat is just the perfect car for the Italian Alps. Snow/mud tires on it and you can use it for all seasons.
Go to any Alpine resort and you’ll soon realise the Panda 4x4 is the car of choice for snow. Light and 4wd = winner.
Great video and yet again I find myself on Autotrader looking for a car I don’t need, thanks Matt👍
car companies should be paying u loads for ur reviews. ..I like how straight forward u are an say it as it is. ..
my wife as had a 13 plate from new with winter pack heated screen/seats never had any trouble with it we love it with all season tyres its all ways out performs the over 4x4s i've had including a defender in snow never used the eco button it loses all power I'd have one as well but I need more room I have thought of getting a cross version and removing the rear seats to fit a dog box for the spaniels
once got towed out of an alipne car park in Les arcs by a beige 1st generation 4 x 4 Sisley..... never forgot how capable it is following that
James May must be in heaven with this car
My 1st Panda, although it was a 2 wheel drive diesel, went to 95,000 miles before it needed a new clutch. Apart from 2 side indicator bulbs which didn't fail but were orange and faded to white, nothing went wrong. I traded it in at about 110,000 miles for a used 63 plate 1.2 Easy which has now covered 40K. The engine has been around a while now so the new 3 cylinder motor might be the best compromise between the twin air and the old FIRE engine, but it's too new to be on the used market yet. I've had no reliability issues in 15 years and 150K over the two cars.
Thanks mister high peak, I have had an interest in panda 4 wheel drives for some time,
Matching jumper, Matt. Good call!
Great review! Pandas are the only cars I’ve owned that have never to have let me down... Do try and review the 500x... they really are surprisingly good!
you are right about the color, nice review, thanks
Its no P38 that's for sure(Thanks for the positive email about mine Matt) but I absolutely love these things, especially the idea of a 500 TwinAir, that little twin cylinder buzzing away at very sedentary speed just appeals to me
PL. I'd rather walk than drive a P38 ! Could one help Matt with his 'Project' ? V
It's funny to think that, proportionally, more Fiat Pandas go offroad than Range Rovers do
just go to the Italian Alps and you see them in their natural habitat on small dirt moutain roads and wine/fruit farmers fields hugging the moutains.
The other 4x4 you see often is a Piaggio 4x4 microvan simular to the microvans they use in Japan.
The Police, firedepartment, comunal services and ofcourse doctors use them too.
Yes there are also some other bigger 4x4 like the Mercedes G and Landrover/cruisers who are used but those are the utilitarian versions not the luxury ones.
