Indeed. Xalek really is the sort who doesn't mince words. Despite his brutality when you first meet him, the fact that he's willing to go beyond the 'Kill or Be Killed' mentality and learn the Sith Code certainly shows he's got a sense of honor. I feel it balances out the potential sarcasm of his master quite well.
I don't think it as bloodthirsty in the traditional sense, but that he NEEDS conflict if he is to grow in power and 'ascend to godhood'. Also, the part where he swears to guard your legacy and calls you father, certainly not the actions of your typical Sith, instead likely being a holdover from his people's culture; it really builds him up as an interesting and layered character. Kaleesh and Sith are the perfect match.
