    I have to comment on something here. Your swages are too tight, especially your 1-1/8" swage which is close to being a press-fit. According to Harris, the recommended clearance for Stay-Silv 15 is .002"-.006". Even at .002" the mating tube should slip in the swaged tube freely, and you should be able to very slightly wiggle it from side to side. With the tight fit you show the braze material won't adequately flow down into the joint.
    I saw that you rotate the swaging tool about halfway through the swage, and this is the correct method to avoid a potential split tube. However, when you have swaged the tube out until the dies are against the stops, you need to rotate the tool again to the initial position and run it to the stops one final time. The reason for this is because the space between the six die segments will be flatter than the areas that the die segments contact. Those flat-sided areas in the copper are a few thousandths smaller than the radiused areas, which makes the fit tight. By running the dies out one final time in the original position you will get a fully round swage and the proper fit that the tool is designed to give.
    Hope that helps!

    I never thought about using a unibit as a reaming tool and I've never liked the big round style as it is very clunky.
    I mostly use a plumber's pipe reaming tool but now I'll have to give it a try.
    Thanks Craig!

      That unibit was a cheap one but the smaller the steps, the better job the step bit will do, thanks Tomon8tor!

    I couldn't find the right size tubing for my hvac without buying hard acr tubing. It won't expand without splitting and that will make it practically impossible to do where I need to without internal oxidation.

      100% Agreed! I do refrigeration, so I got the 5/16" and 1/4" dies as well. Still need to get the 1-3/8" and 1-5/8" dies to complete my kit, but in the 4 years I've had the Hilmor I haven't needed either of those sizes. I'm sure I will at one point though.

    Love My Hilmor Swaging set ! Very fast , no cracking on 5/16 or 3/8 like lever benders . Ya just have to keep fresh Hyd / oil in these tools or it will go crazy when ya really need it .

    Thata nice.. however I like the yellow jacket one. Yes this is more compact but the down falls is the hydraulic fluid. The yellow jacket is is pure muscle with one squeeze.Not much to make the swedge. So ultimately less parts to break or in cold climates seals to go bad.

    Question. Is it bad to install 90deg bent on refrigerant lines to make it look pretty clean installation? I wonder if this causes any restrictions or loose pressure?
    My line size is
    3/8 and 7/8 copper

    • @acservicetechchannel
      @acservicetechchannel  4 роки тому +1

      You can use long turn 90, not short turn like what is used in water piping. However, the less the better. Sometimes we need to and we swage and bend line set to reduce the amount of field brazed joints, thanks!

      I use this tool for tubing larger than 3/8" even though it has a 3/8" die. 1/4" would be too small to make a die for this tool. You would use the standard flare block and block swage or the block and hammer swage- - amzn.to/2T55jyn - - amzn.to/2T3Cx1b - - amzn.to/2CzWMMU

    • @acservicetechchannel
      @acservicetechchannel  5 років тому

      That is because they are not turning the tool half way through the swage to move the seam between the expander portions or the copper is not factory annealed enough. Also I don't use the tool on 3/8" tubing but just the bigger tubes because it could crack the 3/8" if the copper is not annealed enough. For 3/8", I just use a hammer swage with flare block usually, thanks

      They aren't reading the instructions. Don't got all the way, don't keep it in the same rotation the whole way. These tools will ALWAYS push the size farther than they need. Attention needs to be paid to when to stop. Never go all the way.

    • @acservicetechchannel
      @acservicetechchannel  5 років тому

      Yes I have and I will likely do video at some point. I do not like them compared to hammer swages, or manual or hydraulic expanders. It creates a fine dust as it scrapes the inside and you have to have the speed and force pushing in on the pipe at a certain rate or it does not seem to work well. You are also relying on a drill battery and the space to have a drill in the location. Some people love them but I don't really, thanks!
