- LIVE: Police Clash with Protesters Ahead of AfD Congress in Germany
Police used pepper spray and batons to stop a large group of protesters breaking through a cordon in the western German city of Essen, where a two-day congress by the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is now underway. Authorities appealed to demonstrators to "keep away from violent actions and troublemakers." Some 100,000 protesters are taking part in demonstrations in Essen against the anti-immigration, archconservative party, which has been gaining support particularly in the country's former communist east.

Let me guess who is protesting:
Not the East Germans, not the west Germans, not the nationalists, not the capitalists. Mostly the non Germans😂😂😂
No, they are mainly "West" Germans. The Afd is very strong in the east, but rather weak in the west. What you see there is very partial. There have been riots and politicians have been prevented from attending the party conference. There is a lot of hatred and profound disgust in the country. I'm not even an AfD voter, but you can see from the way the AfD is treated that the Germans still have a lot to learn when it comes to democracy. Democracy is not about standing up for yourself, but also for the rights of your political opponent.
Antifa and left friends are protesting.
Unfortunately, that is wrong, even quite wrong. These are people who live in western Germany and most of them will not have a migration background. In my opinion, they live in an intellectual void. Admittedly, that sounds harsh, but I can't explain why the Grundgesetz is celebrated, why, according to a study, 80 percent of respondents say they have (very) great confidence in the Federal Constitutional Court, when Germany is on the verge of a relapse into the darkest times due to the AfD. Either the Grundgesetz and the Federal Constitutional Court do not protect us from fascism and are therefore negligible, or the protection exists and the AfD is not such a great danger, such a demon, as it is portrayed.

Are you sure about the west Germans? Because as far as I know they are very tired of the liberals and want a big change, just like the Netherlands!
very true! a bunch of lazy trash
25000 protested in Piccadilly and trafalgar square about far right modi and terrorist indian state responsible for Genocides 84, cover this also if have guts😮😮😮😮
Modi is a terrorist? I thought he was a good leader. I have heard great things about him!
No, not "far-right". Center-right.
No. Far right is correct. Wanting to deport people to Africa who are not white enough or don't have the same ideology, speaking of wanting to "dispose of" people, funding extreme right goon squads, agitating against diversity ... it's a far-right party.
@@DarkestHourCoe : Unless they are Libertarians, they aren't Far-Right.
AfD an die Macht
Not far right they are right
Center-right.
