    This scene is, in my opinion, the most important one in the film because it is where Blondie accepts the consequences of his cruelty towards Tuco and moves towards redemption. After surviving the desert, he is much kinder to Tuco and the other characters he interacts with; he displays a selflessness that was previously absent.
    The desert is what made Blondie into the hero of the story. It's what made him the Good.

      That's an excellent read. As bad as Tuco is, as guilty for the crimes he committed was, leaving a man to die in a desert is extremely brutal. I always admired Tuco for surviving and always thought Blondie was pretty cold for doing it. You're right, it's a redemption story.

      Blondie uses Tuco to get money convincing him that he gets a share of the money, but then leaves him in the desert. Tuco gets revenge on him and is about to kill him but then Blondie obtains information about buried money so now Tuco has to keep him alive until they find it. Blondie lies about the location of the money. Then, Angel Eyes shows up. Blondie kills him and splits the buried money with Tuco.

      That wardrobe is great. Some contemporary 1960s, but if you look at each item, you see they have practicality. He has two or three distinct sets. The one here is different from the end. He does the one here with the frock coat, neckerchief, dark shirt with pattern. The end he returns to the serape, vest, while retaining gunbelt, boots, and indigo pants, briefly sporting a duster.

      The coat is one of my favorites of all time!
      While the coat is often mistaken for a duster, it’s actually a frock coat. From the close up shots it appears to made from a brushed cotton, similar to a trench coat, but lighter and a bit more breathable. While the movie isn’t entirely historically accurate with the costumes, it’s likely, based on similar coats from the period would be lined in linen or silk.

      The whole sequence is masterpiece of the art in its own right, and a lot more confronting than anything in the standard-issue American made westerns of the same era. Apparently, the water bucket segment was too just too much even for censors by the 1970's and was absent from "uncut" versions of the movie screened in that decade. Tuco's beating in the prison camp and some of Angel Eye's murderous exploits were similarly "adjusted" in earlier releases.

    • @user-jr2lz7es7g
      @user-jr2lz7es7g 9 місяців тому

      It's possible to derive a completely opposite interpretation. The film suggests that by setting our differences aside and cooperating with others, as Blondie and Tuco eventually are forced to do, we learn to understand them, work with them and achieve our goals. From this point in the film onward, they become partners. The scene with Tuco's brother is crucial to that in affirming the more fragile human side of Tuco. As is the prison band. And Blondie's scene with the dying soldier.

    Tuco obtains some payback for his own desert walk. One of the many segments in the film that really upset the (American) movie critics of the day and led one to describe the film as "a supermarket of sadism" . @@prosimian I sometimes think a suitable remake of this movie would be as a 17th to 18th Century maritime version with the three protagonists as competing pirates.
      In that setting, Tuco's desert walk would be translated as being marooned (commonly practiced in those times) while Blondie's ordeal could be to be towed along in an open boat for a week or two across an empty ocean while Captain Tuco views the spectacle from the comfort of his great cabin.
      Meanwhile, Britain and France are at war (as usual) but if you are an independent pirate, it is difficult to distinguish between the combatants, and both navies need to be avoided. . . .

      blondie recognizing tuco's gunshots is not because of the gun's sound, that's a mistranslation from the original script (in italian), its because of the way tuco fire his gun, 5 fast shots, a pause, and then the last shot, if you watch carefully, when tuco kill the dude while taking a bath you can see that he fire 5 times, then takes a pause, and fires the last, although, if im not wrong, the sound edit for the film is missing. Also, i think that in the italian script, blondie mentions that fire pattern when he recognizes tuco's shots

      Camilo Gabriel Toro Rodríguez : Very good observation. I learned it from the war. I could tell how many VC's were there in the trench by the pattern in which they shot.

    The Make-up was pretty sub par on Clint in this scene. When he’s up against the coach his face is suppose to be covered in blisters and welts from the sun, you can easily see the edges of rubber latex they used, especially under the left eye. Still a classic great movie.

    I hate that the 3 hour cut with the deleted scenes is the only available version out there really. Cause the deleted scenes have different voices dubbing the dialogue cause Eastwood, Wallach and Van Cleef didn’t record the dialogue for the deleted scenes

    • @kascally
      @kascally 3 роки тому +1

      Van Cleef was dead when they cam to dub them. Eastwood and Wallach dubbed their scenes. Wallach was very old and it shows in the quality of his voice. Eastwood's are the best.
