I have to compliment you on your respect for each homeowners residence. You spend almost as much time in the protection of the carpet/flooring, walls, trim, and keeping the dust and dirt you generate contained. Your clean up is excellent too. I've had a lot of work done by outside contractors who do a good job but really make a mess! I know it's time consuming for you and time is money. Tip of the Hat!
Thanks. I find that a lot of guys can do the same quality work for around the same price. I have to find different ways to make the process better for the customer. Good communication and fast response time to customer questions also help.
Yes,now if he only protect his eyes like the carpet, lol.
I'm a drywall contractor in southeast Tennessee. I am trying to start a handyman business here just watching your work and getting ideas. Keep up the good work and thanks for your time.
Hey Alan, I realize this is 5 years ago but I wanted to know how your business is going. I'm in southeast TN also and could use some assistance. Thanks
5:11 Laughed out loud at this part. Nice build
I was thinking of doing this to the house in inherited so I can rent it out. Nice video:)
Cool project. My apartment bedroom has a built in desk at the end of a closet like you mentioned the home owners thought about. I really want to pull it out and build something myself there since the counter top they used isn't very deep. All of the caulk has been cut, so it looks like someone else has done that before me and just put it back before they moved out.
Were you there working while the homeowner was at work? Did you open that second attic access for the homeowner?
Very professional. You make it look very easy but I know how much time and energy is required. Here in Germany, I employ some old, retired workers (black work - tax free) as they have the skill set and desire to work part-time with similar jobs that you do (the less demanding jobs anyway). They just need a lot longer with more breaks (Kaffeepause) though.
Did you notice the flex lines for the HVAC being restricted severely by their hangers.
Hey sir, I have a similar project I am looking for what kind for what kind of wood you used ?
i know this an old video but when you toenail the studs in on the outside of the stud doesn't it protrude and affect your drywall laying flush on the wood ???
Crawling up in the attic or in the slither (crawl) space is what I hate about jobs around the house. Kudos to you for just getting it done and done right. Was the wall anchored to studs and rafters? I hope so.
Yes. Studs on the walls and trusses on the ceiling.
This is awesome! Did you ask the home owner if they wanted to install that second attic access door? I can't wait till the next video! Merry Christmas!
I did tell them about it. I told them if they ever need service in their attic there aren't many guys that are going to want to crawl through the hole I did. I Think when the time comes where they need it they will give me a call to cut it in.
Thanks
One of my greatest fears of going in an attic is disturbing the insulation. My OCD would never let me sleep at night knowing that it wasn't placed back in the exact same spot at the exact same depth that it was when it was originally blown in.
It looks good man. Have a merry Christmas and a wonderful and successful 2017. Greetings from Texas.
Thanks a lot. marry Christmas to you too. I'll be in Texas in 3 weeks.
Great content man keep it coming brother
I feel your pain with that attic. Im a cable guy and been in those positions.
watching this made me realize that the house i live in can be turned into a 6 bed room. its a 4 right now. nothing electrical will have to be done to
But do you have enough kids to fill the bedrooms?
you can add the extra bedroom, someone can make kids.
You might not have included it in the video but did you add tack strip to the edges of the carpet along the new wall? If not, shouldn't you have to worry about the carpet sagging/rippling over time?
Yes there is new tack strips along the new wall.
Hey from Canada 🇨🇦 love the work and I like how you sometimes whistle, how come you don't listen to music?
Its kind of funny I whistle like crazy when I'm working. I just never listen to music when I work. When I was a super I hated going to job sites and hearing music blasting. A lot of times my customers are home or could be coming home. I'd rather have them see me working hard than having music playing. Not really a good reason.....
The Handyman that's a really customer oriented answer! Love the work and the knowledge thanks for sharing!
You a bad mother tucker....i gotta give you props you tackled anything and you do all your own work....i tried but i fell miserably im still trying thou
great job
Beautiful home already but you add more room making it a mansion home for me😀
Good Job
Hi Handyman, I am considering doing a similar project in my house, converting a loft space to a room. I have bamboo laminate floors...will I need to remove the floor slats or can I frame ont op of the bamboo laminate floor? Thanks for your time!
It depends on they type of bamboo. I have installed 10's of 1000's of square feet of bamboo flooring. Some is tongue and grove and stapled to sub floor. A lot of it is floating. If its a floating floor it needs to be able to expand and contract. If it can't do that anymore it will separate and look bad. If its glued or stapled down I might frame on top of it. Most likely I would just lay out the floor then cut out the bamboo with a circular saw.
Thank you so much for responding, very helpful!! yeah the floor is floating so I will end up cutting it out for the framing. good news is previous home owner left us 6 new boxes of spare flooring he ordered too much and didnt take back so i have enough flooring to replace a big section should i screw up, lol. thanks again man you're awesome to take time to respond!!!!!
good luck Rusty.
Thank you for sharing
Great video..
But how’d you cut that drywall for the top.
Are you just a handy man or are you contractor and what kind of license do you have
I have a full GC license but do all the work myself.
"Just"?
Also, that's a shame that one of the outlets is in the closet. Only so much you can do when working with existing structure.
Couldn't you have just pulled the lights and shoved the boxes up into the ceiling? Your channel is really addicting, I'm looking into getting into the handy business myself.
good job what state do you work in?
@@TheHandyman1 but what if someone who watches your videos wants to hire you? Seems like you put in a lot of effort to put yourself out there but then go to a similar amount of effort to hide your location. Or are you concerned about the potential loss of business if your clients find out you are recording and uploading videos to the internet of your work? From what I understand you work for pretty affluent people oh, I know they can have some weird Hang Ups I wouldn't necessarily be surprised if they would get their panties in a bunch over these videos.
@@OGSnoberry I am not for hire to just anyone. The only way I will work for someone is if they are referred to me by a previous customer. I do have a few customers that know about the youtube channel and they love it. I have more work then I could ever do. I do no advertising what so ever. ONLY referrals. It keeps out the penny pinchers and the wheeler dealers.
@@TheHandyman1 Fair enough. Obviously what you do works and you do good work so you keep on doing you man. Any big projects coming up that'll make it to the channel?
@@OGSnoberry I'm doing a full kitchen remodel. Including building all the cabinets. Refinishing the wood floors. Bead board ceiling. Its going to look really nice.
@@TheHandyman1 can't wait to see the video(s). Is the most recent sink and cabinet videos part of that remodel?
How much what a project like this cost? my home is pretty much the same plan as that one
I only charged $2800 for this. Had around $500 in materials. If I were to do it again I would charge $3800.
The Handyman damm a lot
What 2k8$ covers?
Framing, drywall, painting?
I definitely would have caulked that also. Sometimes thats the best way.
dyna flex 230 works great for this application
Lol,this guy here!.still no eye protection.
Safety 3rd
Hello. Do you have an email i could contact you for a quote on your services?
LoL uh..yes...my spell check changed the word...lol
nice job, do you have your own company? where at? what state?
I am self employed as a handyman. I am in the mid west USA
lol im 5 feet tall....lucky me im small lol
Do you need permits
Kupa Brown No it's your house you can do whatever you wanna do with it
Kupa Brown Technically yea, but I would honestly say it depends on what state you live in. Cali is strict and people are more likely to tell on you and apparently in (for example) Washington you have a lot more freedom to build what you want. Basically as long as people (more so the city you live in) don't know, you should be fine. My family have done add ons without permits and we have had no issues. So yes and no..if you want to be exact with code I would check with the city that you live in even though doing stuff to code sucks but it ensures you don't get in any trouble I guess.
wheres the isolation ?
isolation? do you me insulation?
@@TheHandyman1 some languages like for example french they say isolation for what americans calls insulation things get confusing once you speak more than one language
