One of those rules is that the refs can touch you for a couple reasons (like breaking up a fight) but you can absolutely not touch them. Violating that rule is an automatic ejection. It's kinda like cops. They can touch you if they have cause, but it you do something back you're going to jail.
My favorite ones are when the refs put their hands on the players and try to move them. The players just stand their ground or don't let the officials grab a hold of them.
You could tell that Marshawn Lynch grabbing the ref wasn't intentional. As soon as he realized who he had he hands on in the pile he immediately straightened up and let go. The ref shoved him way more right before throwing the flag.
The Kuechly ejection was bogus. Why was the ref pushing him? Luke obviously thought it was someone on the opposing team and was walking away like “get off me”

If they can choose to ignore PI's and "let them play" then they can judge the severity of contact.
