- This video is the third episode of the video series “ Career in Merchant Navy, wherein IWSF members have explained about the right process of getting into shipping as a deck officer. All basic information about entrance exams, colleges, what to check before entering any college, medical requirements, DG shipping requirements, information about IMU is given in this video. This video has been endorsed by Captain Radhika Menon, who is the first Indian woman ever, who commanded a merchant ship. Captain Anuradha Jha, second Indian woman to become a master mariner, has a sailing experience of 16 years, and is currently serving as nautical faculty with a renowned Maritime institute, has explained how to select the correct company. Capt Namrata’s life journey, wherein she explained how she managed to strike the balance between her personal life and career, is quite motivating, and encouraging for young girls, who want to take up merchant navy as a long term profession.
Cadet Komali Mudli has shared her experience in this career. Second officer Namrata Chaudhary has very nicely explained the Dg requirements, eligibility criteria as well as the medical requirements for joining sea a s deck officer.

But you can't join as an officer or captain you could be a crew member

IMU exams are conducted twice a year, one for admissions in August and another one for admissions in Feb. You may try for the next batch
But I heard that there is no height criteria for a girl in merchant navy
That's true. Earlier, for lesser height, everytime approval was taken, on case to case basis. But recently we received this confirmation that no height criteria is there for girls.

After 12th...it is very tough only IIT aspirants are eligible

@@sankalpsingh1622 actually I gave 2 attempts to clear IMU CET. But i cleared IIT mains in one attempt. But i always wanted to go in merchant navy, so I dropped one year to prepare for it. And on the second attempt, fortunately i cleared IMU CET.
Looks like need to prepare hard for it!!! 😦 I'll try both IIT and IMU.

@@rohit00rj first of all you need to get the sponsership of a company like ESM. I am in ESM so i know that if you join this company your future is secure. Then you have to clear the interview followed by the medical exam. After that all you need to clear is the IMU CET EXAM.

@@rohit00rj if i explain you in a nutshell. There are many companies in this particular field but some of them are considered to be the most elite. One of them is our company ESM. YOU don't only get paid well you'll also get quick sailing and everything would be taken clear of. You should join Esm with full trust
How many female are there in a ship ?
Number of female seafarers is very less, so mostly it would be one female on board. However, in companies like Shipping corporation of India, who has been hiring female seafarers for last 2 decades now, there may be more females on board a ship. Many other companies have adopted a policy of putting more than one girl together.

There is no minimum height requirement for girls.
