Tender: great book. SciFi/Horror: The Scourge Between Stars (Ness Brown). Dark/Adult fairy tale: Boy with a Black Rooster (Stefanie vor Schulte). Dark/somewhat comedic/horror: A Botanical Daughter (Noah Medlock). #BOTS/BORK
Love this tag ^^ I need to get to it, I'm so behind on tags!!! The last books I DNFed were Long Live Evil and a Buffy novelization, which I covered in my recent reading wrapup :)
Great video Maeve! Tender Is the Flesh is a 6 out of 5 for me but the setting definitely is not for everyone haha! Also I do recommend pushing through The Stand eventually when you aren’t burned out from King. The character development is amazing and you really get the chance to know them since the book is a billion pages long lol
I’m so glad you love Tender is the Flesh!! It’s awesome that some books are great for some people and not for others. I find that so fascinating! And I will for sure be trying The Stand again in the future. I just need a little break from the King-isms.
Good one 🎉 IMA do this 🎯 I recently read King's "Holly" series of novels, w a group, and we enjoyed them. "Supernatual crime ffiction?¿?" I didnt like _Under the Dome_ (a few others), either ... P.S: I'm looking at my Collected Poe as I type this (it's out w my Poe Hallowe'en decorations) 🦇 🎃 👻
I love how you said Edgar Allen Poe's works are one you would bring with you on a stranded island! My favorite story by him was The Cask of Amontillado! (Funny how I haven't read his works in YEARS, but they still stand out vividly in my mind LOL) The last manga that DNFed was The Small-Animallike Lady Is Adored by the Ice Prince and feel bad because everything about this SHOULD be my cup of tea, but I couldn't get into it at all. *hides* Really really enjoyed watching this!!
I love that you like Poe!! The Pit and the Pendulum is my favorite of his works. ❤ I haven’t even heard of that manga but, it’s such a bummer when that happens. 😞
Close to finishing ‘Salems Lot and my biggest problem is the exact same. Objectifying women and King’s obsession with testicles really take you out of his writing. Big agree with The Hobbit over LotR. Thank you for the tag! So excited for Friday, The Name of the Wind is burning a hole in my bookshelf right now
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who feels that way about King!! His writing and ideas are so great and he just ruins it(for me personally) with all his crude crap. Yes!! I love LotR but, I love The Hobbit more. 💕 I can’t wait to hear your answers for this tag and to start Namr of the Wind with you!!
Great video and answers Maeve and thanks for tagging me. I loved Tender is the Flesh but I absolutely get why it's not for everyone, it is deserving of its reputation for sure.
@@DisquietandDragons-lh3zm Thank you and you’re so welcome!! I’ve seen a lot of people who love Tender is the Flesh!! I’m glad a lot of people can enjoy it. 😊

@@stuartgriffin1001 I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t want to read Tender is the Flesh. I haven’t heard of Mister Magic. What made you put it down?

Great answers! Sorry to hear those books hit close to home for you in whatever way, but of course there is no need to put yourself through reading them. I’ve never read King’s books, your comment made me chuckle though, didn’t know that. What is it with the obsession some people have haha there are other things in this world! 😂 Anyway, enjoyed your video! A book I dnf’d recently… I have three, and they have all been because the audiobook narration was awful (for me) but I would still like to read the books. Other side of night, End of summer aaaaaand….. Pink glass houses.
Thank you!! Such a bummer when the narrator of a book ruins the experience. I’ve only had that happen a couple times but, it was such a disappointment.
@@Maeve_Ever_Books Yes! I was especially looking forward to Other side of night. The narrations was very varied, I guess some people like that, but I don't. I can't drive and constantly be adjusting the volume because he's screaming and talking really fast and then whispering and then screaming again! Like just read the words please, I'll fill in the rest, thank you! 😂 I'm a sensitive gal though. But yeah, ruined it!
@@Maeve_Ever_Books Haha that's probably true! At least then there's subtitles and visuals, but for an audiobook... there's nothing else! They had one job! 😂
I've never tried Stephen King, so it was interesting to hear your thoughts, now I'm even more unsure. Ah, Merry & Pippin, yes, what a glorious duo. I don't read much (well none, actually) horror either. I'm trying to launch into Shirley Jackson at the moment, I think I'm enjoying it, so I'll see how I go. Thanks for another wonderful video, I don't really have any dnf's, but it was interesting hearing about yours.
@@apoetreadstowrite I think Stephen King has some amazing ideas and great writing, I just wish he didn’t get so crude at different points in his books. I adore Merry and Pippin.
