      Thanks a lot, @jackcho3450, really means a lot 🙏 My focus with this channel is obviously anyone interested in goalkeeping, but I do agree that this video would be beneficial for others than goalkeepers. Fears are fears no matter where you play on the field and something everyone can relate to, no matter who or where you are in life!

    Hey, I've been watching you for a few months now,and i love your content,you explain everything so clear it can't be more clear.I really needed this video,cause i have anxiety before matches,and also have a fear of ball.
    I jus noticed you really have been in my shoes,in exactly same situation.
    One thing i want to ask you is how did you win against your inner thoughts/inner demons?When i started practicing visualization,my inner thoughts just make me fail every time.
    Now after more practice,i can visualise it approximately 9/10 times,but the still don't let me rest at all,they remin me of my bad moments,and they are problem for me not just in football,but in life,they litteraly think instead of me,but against me.If you have any tips,please share them with me,love from Serbia🇷🇸🇷🇸

      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  3 місяці тому

      @@teodorlazarevic5612 Hey man ☺️
      Thanks for your comment and thank you for following and interacting 🙏
      Yes. That used to be me. Simply afraid of playing football. And it's the number one (and probably only reason why I never became a PRO). I had all the talent in the world but my head and mentality was literally holding me back.
      As you also say, one thing that helped me a lot was visualization. In the beginning, it was really difficult and my thoughts kept drifting away and I was constantly thinking about other thing or seeing myself fail. But I just kept fighting these thoughts and kept coming back on track.
      I used to have a trigger word for when negatives thoughts popped up in ly head. My trigger word was simple, it was "STOP!". And I would sometimes say it out loud as well.
      Another thing that is massively underrated is positive self-talk. The way you talk and think about yourself really impacts your performance. If you keep telling yourself that you suck or keep shouting at yourself, you'll become a lot more nervous and afraid. Changing your thoughts from "I can't do this" into something realistic like "I'm improving every day" makes a huge difference. One simple thing that helped me was also: instead of saying "I'm nervous today", I'd say "I'm excited today". It has more positive meaning. And I'd even tell my coach, friends and teammates "boy, I'm excited today. I can't wait for the game to begin". Your mind believes what you tell it repeatedly ☺️ ONE MORE THING, learn to laugh and smile on the field. Even nodding your head. It's very difficult to be negative when you do these things.
      And when I was really nervous before a big game, I'd use my breathing. 4 seconds in, hold 4 secs, breath out 4 secs, hold 4 and repeat it. Do this 4-5 times or more and you'll naturally lower your heartrate.
      I hope this helps 🙏

      @@GroundGloryGoalkeepingThanks🙏🙏.I really feel blessed,finding
      someone with the same problem,same love for goalkeeping,with much more experience,then me,will truly be a game-changer for me.Also i have a few questions.Do you still hear the voice sometimes?Do you/Did you hear it in a normal life?Do you try to ignore it,or you try to get rid of it, or ignoring it will make it disappear?Also thanks for the tips, I'm sure they will mean a lot❤️❤️🙏🙏

    • @GroundGloryGoalkeeping
      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  2 місяці тому +1

      Many goalkeepers experience this but they're often too proud to admitting it, unfortunately.
      The first step to overcoming is to admit and talk about it. It's the most normal thing in the world for goalkeepers.
      I don't hear them as much anymore, no. With experience and with practice, I've learned to think positively. That doesn't mean that I'm arrogant or egocentric though (hehe)...
      Well, for me, the fear used to come the days before the match. I used to get negative thoughts like "fake an injury so I don't have to play", or "just say you're sick", or "what if I misjudge a cross" or "what if I lose the ball into the net" or my BIGGEST challenge "what if your goal kicks will suck and everyone will laugh and make fun of you".
      In the beginning, I used to ignore it and I just played the game while being afraid all the time but with time I started working on it with the help of sport psychology and it has really helped.
      Don't get me wrong, I can still get nervous, especially towards the end of the game and if the game is close, but I'm a lot better at handling that today.

    I found this video really helpful to overcome my fear of the ball as iam a beginner keeper.But I have a particular question that how can I overcome my fear of getting my hand injured as a goalkeeper

    • @GroundGloryGoalkeeping
      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  11 днів тому

      I’m really glad the video helped! Fear of injury, especially with your hands, is totally understandable - it's something many beginner keepers go through. Here are a few tips to help you get more comfortable with it:
      Strengthen your hands: Building up hand and wrist strength through exercises (like using a grip trainer or doing wrist curls) can help you feel more confident in your ability to handle strong shots.
      Proper hand technique: Make sure you’re positioning your hands correctly, with fingers spread and thumbs forming a "W" shape behind the ball. This reduces the risk of awkward impact and helps you control the ball safely.
      Use good gloves: Quality goalkeeper gloves with good padding and support can give you extra confidence. They add protection and improve your grip, which helps reduce the chance of painful mishandles.
      Gradual exposure: Start by practicing with softer or lighter balls, then gradually work your way up to stronger shots as you get more comfortable. This helps build trust in your technique and reduces fear.
      With practice, you’ll start feeling more confident and less worried about injuries. Remember, getting over this fear takes time, so go easy on yourself and celebrate the small wins along the way. Keep at it! 💪🧤⚽

    Hahaha, the first one made me remember my first official match when I was 12, they got me into the game, I got nervous as everyone was staring into me, noticed I forgot my shin pads, so the gk before me gave me his. But they couldn't fit, as everyone was waiting I could hear the laughter and I just tossed them to the side and went for it, I immediately recieved a goal in a 1v1 situation and the game ended shortly after, it's a core memory now. It's been 5 years, unfortunately I gave up my goalkeeper dreams, but I'm thinking about trying out again, anyone got any similar story?

    • @GroundGloryGoalkeeping
      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  2 дні тому

      That’s such a relatable and heartfelt story! It’s those moments - the nerves, the unexpected mishaps, and the lessons learned - that really stick with us as goalkeepers. It’s amazing that even though it didn’t go perfectly, it became a core memory and something you can look back on with a smile now.
      Thinking about trying out again is a fantastic idea! You’ve got the experience and passion, and coming back to goalkeeping could bring so much joy. Honestly, a lot of keepers have been through similar moments - those "thrown into the fire" first matches where everything feels overwhelming. But it’s often those experiences that fuel our growth.
      If anyone else has a story like this, it’s a reminder that even the awkward or challenging moments can lead to something great. Go for it - dust off those gloves and make new memories! 🧤⚽🔥

      Hey, I totally get that! Playing alone can feel relaxing because there’s no pressure or expectations from others, but when you're with a team, it can definitely feel different. One thing that might help is practicing passing with friends or in a low-pressure environment so you can build up confidence. Over time, it’ll feel more natural, and you won’t feel as much pressure when you're in a game situation.
      Remember, passing is just another part of the game, and the more you do it, the more comfortable you'll get. Don’t be too hard on yourself - you’ve got this!
