This song got me through some tough times and still does...I agree 100%...doesn't matter what version it is...the best song ever in history from the best band in history
Rock of Ages and Van Morrison's Too Late To Stop Now are two live albums that are high on my to get list (on vinyl that is). This version of Unfaithful Servant seals it for me.
The horns make this album, Allen Toussaint is a genius. They put a lot of work into their sound at that time which was a relaxed rhythm based American/Canadian Style. The Jazz of Hudson The Balls of Helm (to sing motown and not hide his accent) Jaime's staunch stance on trying to bring horns and many other musicians as possible Rick's voice and punchy/picked bass lines and Richard. Thundering piano and the voice as the other members called it his voice was a tightrope walker on the verge
Did they use Allen's horn arrangements in the end? I remember reading the charts he put together were lost by an airline along with the suitcase they were kept in for the trip.
what a beautiful rendering of the song. Danko is glorious - but all the little things add up...the keys pulse, the subtle horns, a tuba? even, and then that guitar kicks it home. Does Garth play that sax part? thanks
Actually, the original recorded solo was played on a guitar by Robbie. He uses tremolo picking, which is what you normally play on a mando. You can't really bend strings on a mandolin, either, because the strings are in courses (two octaves), just like a twelve-string geetah. : )
This deserves millions of views. Rick was born to sing this song.
A Band in the truest sense of the word.
There is just something special about this version of this song.... it is so touching...and those horns...
No doubt....CLASSIC!
When I was young and emotional this track used to bring tears to my eyes. Still does.

Remembering Rick's prairie boy sweetness 23 years on...
Best guitar solo by Robby ever.
definitive version for this listener.
I liked this album better than the last waltz, and the last waltz was fantastic!
+Mike Bailey comparisons are the best form of slander
One of the greatest guitar solos ever recorded.

@@waterfordrs22 He had to rewrite them after he got to Robbie's house. So yes, they were used.
25 likes also says a lot, how there isn't more is beyond me, when I picture music in my mind this is how it sounds.
Once saw Lyle Lovett's Big Band do an instrumental set at a small theater in Hanford that made me cry
When I die, Rick is going to be the first person I go and see.
Billy Shears Yeah me too !
Those horns.
Robbie turns his guitar inot a mandolin, then back into a guitar, sweet.
would say best vocal by Rick, but he has so many

Robbie does a fine job of achieving mandolin sounds and technique from his guitar, in both acoustic and electric versions.
