    Cool idea. I would have mounted the table top to the moving section, that way the overhang would stay (somewhat) consistent, and it would stiffen it to prevent the racking

    Very cool build, as you went along I was thinking, ah, I would do it this way, and then you did it that way. Not sure if anyone already mentioned it but where you are using the edge banding for the sliding surface, if that ever becomes a problem you can get thin UHMW tape that is designed for that purpose, I use it in router jigs.

    Another way on it could have been to make the center area fixed and then have flip out table tops on both ends and leg sections that pull out on both ends. Would cut down on the height issue that you have at the end there, especially for lower ceiling basements/rooms. But I really like the idea and think that I might do this for a gaming table design instead of the ping pong table, and make it a little taller with just under a bar height table height.

  • @sunshine23pir8
    @sunshine23pir8 2 місяці тому

    Question... In regards to the plywood tearout... Why didn't you cut within the hole and use a router to go up to the line? Perhaps using a guide for the router... a straight edge for the straight bits and a circle guide for the corners.

    I think you should have gone with draw sliders or linear guide rails and bearings for the extending movement. Any dust etc is going to make that thing bind up in future. Didn’t the original have cool LED scoring features? I hope you’re going to find a way to incorporate those into the new table. Otherwise, great work!

    That's such a clever idea, Bob! Makes me want to build an extra room to our house just so I can make this table and keep it in there 😂
    Next, you can always see if you can connect an Arduino to the sliding mechanism to play the transformers effect each time the table transforms.

    Something I noticed at 17:32, the table top isnt locked down so either person can move it when accidentally bumping into it. Do you have plans to add a lock so the top doesnt move when its in the ping pong mode?

    • @Iliketomakestuff
      @Iliketomakestuff  3 місяці тому
