I've been playing this game for 4 years now and I am still a scrub at keeping combos going. Still doesn't stop me from playing the shit out of this game.
The question is if you're going solo Beowulf, or if he's part of a team. If you're running 2+ characters, your combos get a whole lot longer, as a lot of assists make excellent extenders. It's worth the raw damage loss of increasing your team size. For example, my preferred if Beowulf, Cerebella, and Squigly, and combos can be extended well by calling in Bella for her spin thing or by calling Squigly for the GET OVER HERE, which causes stagger to easily let Bella and Wulf combo into their command grabs.
Paralyzed Horse I experimented and figured out a 20+ hit, he's the only character I know how to play decently so far (26 hours, I'm a skrub). Solo Beowulf is so hype though.
I mean Beo does so much base damage that it doesn't really matter, same with Bella. If you just mash you get new things eventually =\ that's why I hate fighting them, inescapable setups with no mindgames involved whatsoever.
