Let's take a look at the V2 and the V3 AOS systems from Crawford. I go over what an AOS does, why you might need it and what makes the new V3 AOS different.
Check out the Crawford AOS's here: www.rallysport...
I'll save you all some time, difference between v2 and v3 starts at 6:20
Thank you man cause
"ain't nobody got time for that!!
I’ve been running the V2 that I bought from you guys on my 2012 STi for years now. Works great to this day!
Justin - Have you had any issues passing smog with the V2?
This is actually a very smart Subaru mod. Adding things like this before trying to increase performance is what people should be doing.
Agree 100%! :)
Thanks,
Rick
We run a Crawford Air Oil Separator on our Racecar and it works like a dream!
You guys are the best! Keep up the killer work.
Thanks,
Rick
It was good meeting you guys in L.A a while back.
Update in regards to my earlier reply... So I bought the Crawford AOS v3 from RSD and I found out is NOT compatible with my 2013 STI. They advertise the item as a direct fit, but I can assure you, it is not. While the engine being used is STILL the same, the TMIC mounting brackets have been revised. The TMIC mounting brackets on a 15+ model are not as wide so the install works. Sadly, RSD refused to accept the AOS I bought from them. I didn't even get to install it. It is still brand new, unused, but because I open the box, RSD refuses to take it back. So now I'm stuck with an item I can't use. I will eventually sell it (i hope), BUT I will never buy anything from RSD again.. This no return policy is bullshit.. I'm going to install an oil catch can which is a LOT easier to install, highly affordable, and provide similar benefits of the AOS.
My suggestion would be to call your bank and have them reverse the transaction. I have to do this ever so often because of bs policies and customer service.
REALLY need to get one of these too...Damn this part's list is getting long and expensive :/ Genuinely appreciate all the content RIck and crew and now an education! Woo!
HAHA always glad to help... err... or hurt your wallet LOL.
Thanks,
Rick
Great video!!! Thank your for answering FAQs and explaining the differences between v2 and v3. I’m definitely buying a v3!! I’ll order mine from RSD next week!
Thank you!!!
Rick
For performance v2 is better overall better too he just doesn't want to mess with coolant n all the extra stuff but better reviews on v2 heard lil flaws with v3
The fa-20 engine, has both direct injection and port injection. So it still helps clean the valves.
Only in the Z chassis though, so the 86 and BRZ got D.I as well as Port, but on the WRX we only got the D.I. Now regardless, a proper AOS is always recommended, but the benefits on the WRX is greater in regards to the carbon build up for sure.
Thanks,
Rick
Please make an install video of the V3 on an 08-14 WRX. Put one in a 2010!
I used to own a 1993 Subaru Impreza stick-shift; I had it from new, and at the time I had no idea because I hadn't learned about U-TUBE yet. May be it is a good thing I sold it back then.Maybe it didn't start burning the oil yet, because I don't recall any problems.
Still want somebody to cut open the crawford and iag aos to see which is better
DustinB855 DIY.
I just recived the mishimoto catch can, i expect that it will work also as well as the AOS.
Just received mine today. Got lit up on Facebook for buying this over IAG 😅
Anastacio Guerrero lol I think I saw your post about this purchase. Damn people always gotta talk crap.
Metal Head 323 lol, Yea people brought out their pitchforks real quick 😂
Oh man, people can be brutal. Brand loyalty is a very real thing LOL. I don't think you could go wrong with either AOS, I think it really comes down to brand/looks at this point to be honest :)
Thanks,
Rick
I found out after I bought mine. My tuner suggested iag over Crawford. Hope you have an sti not a wrx. 😬
Just show them my AOS configuration and they'll shut the hell up.
Ok and the 1 million $$$ question. How are you going to drain the oil when is full o how are you going to know when is full or not????
The oil drains back into the crankcase
We need someone to do an x-ray on this like the v2 😉
I bought the grimmspeed AOS for my stage 3 2008 wrx. Is it just as good? I just hope I made a good decision.
Honestly the Grimmspeed will work very well. I say keep it for sure :)
Thanks,
Rick
According to forums the Grimmspeed is good for everyday driving. Though if you get into boost a lot or track your car then you will still get oil passing through. I've seen someone do the grimmspeed into a catch can then back to the intake and that seemed to help but at that point you might as well spend the money on a crawford, iag, ect. Really you wouldnt be spending much more at that point. I hope this helps.
These are nice but i prefer my iag. Even tho it was a pain in the ass to install with a verticooler lol
Dude all AOS's are a pain with a verticooler lol. :)
Rick
So? What happens to the condensation build up? Wouldnt the water go back into the engine with the oil and be more harmful?
Just like without an AOS, the oil gets hot enough to evaporate any water and will be sent to the intake to be burned. Now the only problem(same without or without an AOS) is when you do repetitive short drives, so the engine gets to temp, and then you shut it down. After doing this so many times in a row, you will start to notice a "milky" oil residue. The cure for this is to go drive the car hard and for a decent period of time, this helps bring everything up to temp and will burn all of that crap out.
So for the short answer, it is not harmful, but something to be aware of with or without an AOS. :)
Thanks,
Rick
Between this and the Grimm, which do you recommend?
is this system similar to the ones installed for air compressors? did Subaru have an oem version if not why did not they address this. i see on ebay they have oem Porsche AOS, will that suffice an oem setup or is the Crawford AOS, simply a better designed that is tried and true for both OEM and upgraded parts?
Yes and no. They both try to accomplish the same task but internally they are quite different. These are designed specially for constant air flow through a vacuum, and heavy oil vapors. And honestly an OEM AOS should work pretty well, but the Crawford will be better for the one fact that it is built specific for the vehicle.
Thanks,
Rick
Any suggestions on an AOS for a Lexus IS250? Please don't say the rr-racing once since it's just a catch can which they insist on calling an AOS. I think it's up between the IAG and Crawford.
I have it on my forester. I just don’t know why it doesn’t have a drain plug or anything. Can someone please explain why it wouldn’t
Wanted to know if you guys carry any universal oil catch can and air separator from a 2000 Subaru Impreza GC
You would want to use the Universal Crawford AOS.
www.rallysportdirect.com/part/air-oil-separators/s0712-1-crawford-air-oil-separator-black
Thanks,
Rick
Is a oil separator good for 10th gen Honda civic even tho I don't race it?
It is never a bad thing to send clean air back to the intake to be burned. Now you won't notice a difference in power or anything like that. but it's like running a good quality oil, or doing regular maintenance in that it's just good practice :)
Thanks,
Rick
what will happen, let's say a daisy-chain install of a Crawford AOS V3?
You would not gain anything to be honest. Just a waste of money. The single AOS is more than enough for proper air oil separation of the entire system. :) Hope this helps!
Thanks,
Rick
Do these have stickers for the Crawford logo??? I don’t know if I got a fake or not
Do you have any ETA of when you're getting more of the 15+ WRX versions of these in stock again?
Anyone know if this can be used on a 2008 Subaru Impreza 2.5i Non-turbo automatic? If so, which one would work best?
Love ur videos bro ,
Thank you!
Rick
hi will the version 3 fit onto my 53 plate Subaru sti blobeye???
Do you need to tune the car if you put one on?
No tune required, just bolt it on and enjoy :)
Got a question for u
takes about 6:30 to finally get to the question GEEZ
My IAG leaks from the seals. Time to trade it out for a Crawford.
Ah that's a bummer, although I'm sure it would be an easy fix, you also can't go wrong with the Crawford units :)
Thanks,
Rick
How long have you had your IAG AOS?
Can you pass smog with this?
It should actually decrease emissions. But, California still doesn't allow them.
Since this isnt a performance mod, does it still void warranty?
You would want to talk with your local dealership about that. Now I can't imagine they would not provide warranty work because of this, however it's worth checking before buying for sure.
Thanks,
Rick
Say “in general” one more time 😂😂
LOL oh man, when I get stuck on a word in a video, I swear it's all I say. I cringe sometimes watching these. 😂
Rick
So is Crawford better or is IAG better?
Here we go... lol - Crawford +1
V2 > V3. EPA gotta ruin everything.
It’s “normal” to burn a quart every thousand miles is false 😂😂 re-read the manual lol
that's within spec for most audi's lol
matthew wareham absolutely not, that’s 3 quarts every oil change. Look at the manual.
@@asoggyburger479 worked for audi. I have done alot of oil consumption tests. 1qt at 1000 miles would pass
matthew wareham Absolutely not, a vehicle cannot run healthy on half or less than half of the required oil.
@@asoggyburger479 not saying it's a good thing but as far as factory spec and warranty they will see nothing wrong with it. Google oil consumption per 1000 miles.
IAG is much better than the Crawford.
I can’t find a IAG to fit my 03 subie
So Crawford get the dub for me
