I have an internet friend who’s an Aussie and does drag sometimes. For reference, he’s met both Coco and Maxi multiple times, and knows a lot of Etcetera’s friends. He told me when the cast was announced that back in 2011 or 2012, as a baby queen and a teenager, Scarlett had done Blackface, but she hadn’t done it since then, and he didn’t believe it was a big deal. He was as shocked as everyone else when it came out that she was doing it in 2018, and now 2020. My personal theory is that when Scarlett was asked to audition by producers, her and her friends went on a massive pr campaign deleting as many pictures as they could and spreading rumors that she had done blackface a long time ago so people would assume any that emerged were 9-10 years old.

There could be a greater conversation about race in Australia, but also there couldn't because they only casted 2 poc queens, kicked them off right away and then brought back the only white queen eliminated. No one there had the knowledge to talk about.
And it's sad that Ru as a POC is always quiet! The show made a small post about black lives matter last year and danced around the issue of the racism inside the fandom so my bar is set really low for them as possible allies...

(17:12) Karen's reasoning to get a tattoo of a Golliwogs is probably the same as people in the US see no issue with the Confederate flags, or people in the Netherlands put on Blackface to dress as Black Pete -- it is part of their heritage.
Yeah I've been having a lot of conversations lately with other people where I try to express just how deeply rooted harmful ideologies and practices are ingrained into culture. We are socialized for centuries into thinking something is normal and natural (e.g., racial, gender, sexual, etc. constructs and superiority) that it takes time to change larger social structures that reinforce those beliefs. It's easy to say we should hold individuals accountable for our actions (which we absolutely should), but it's not so easy as "person X is racist and person Y is inherently evil," it's much more "this society has for countless generations normalized racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. discourse/practices and we all consume that knowledge and reproduce it whether we intend to our not and so it takes structural change to meaningfully unlearn problematic cultural values." Basically let's empathetically hold each other accountable to do better and learn and grow, framing it from a place of compassion to lift one another up, rather than dehumanize people for perpetuating what is a larger structural issue. It's like shaming someone who uses plastic straws for not being eco-friendly when corporations and militaries are producing the most pollution globally and threatening sustainability more directly; yes, there are great smaller efforts on behalf of individuals but ultimately the focus needs to be on dismantling the larger power structures that are perpetuating harm in the first place.
As a person who lived in Australia for all of my schooling years, it is SUPER racist, and the racism is just sort of ingrained into the culture, like a lot of it doesn't even feel malicious, it does just feel like they're ignorant to the fact that those stereotypes are bad. I'm british and they even managed to other me for being different simply for having a different accent. It's,,,, exhausting. Also, there was a baRBERSHOP QUARTET IN BLACKFACE on a VARIETY SHOW in **2009** and that was *broadcast*!!!!

This entire season is so bizarre. I wonder how it would have all played out with a different host. How do you go from praising a Divine reenactment, ignoring every other unfunny filthy commercial, and then send home Etc? To be frank, none of the commercials were all that stellar but Maxi and Etc felt the far from worst. The lip sync was extremely tight, I personally enjoyed Etc a little more but I’m extremely happy Maxi is still in the game as she’s probably the most likable left.

I'm british and they even managed to other me for being different simply for having a different accent. It's,,,, exhausting. Also, there was a baRBERSHOP QUARTET IN BLACKFACE on a VARIETY SHOW in **2009** and that was *broadcast*!!!!
i know rena from the not hit tv show "sirens" no longer on abc family now known as freeform
The start sounds weird cos ru’s saying “Sheila already done had hers’s”
get used to disappointment
Maxi mentioned on an interview ua-cam.com/video/S6uM9L23sgI/v-deo.html that Drag Race Thailand had the first gab with the microphone 🎤 during a lipsync.
15:40 so even if someone with a history of problematic behavior tries to make amends, you don't care? They're just damaged beyond repair forever?
bush means woman's snatch and also the woods so thats the pun.
I think we all can agree that we all just LOVE Scarlett....
Really appreciate you sticking with the reviews of DRDU despite all the shitfuckery... as a proud indigenous Australian and longtime fan of RPDR I’m mortified by this season and seriously disappointed with Ru. You can blame poor production, budget, coronavirus etc etc... at the end of the day, the buck stops with Ru...
150th...Im surprised you 2 are Not together again in the same place / vaccinated?
please review the Star Wars prequels!!
With suicide squad two I think it’s gonna have what I dub the James Gunn effect where no matter how bad it’s gonna be it’s gonna be so ridiculous to watch it will entertain for example the game lollipop chainsaw.
