Boy I really wish I had seen this 3 months ago. Pulled all of the barrier and insulation on day one and it’s been a nightmare since. I can’t dig a channel for my hydrawY and basin because it’s so silty muddy. Been a nightmare to work in and then I needed to do a bunch of duct work. Had to just seal it up for the winter as it was too hard to work in. I’ll wrap it up next month when it’s dry for a few weeks

Hello , great lessons! My new , (to me ), home in East Tennessee has been a project. As you are describing , I am the DIY fella that found a junkyard /storage and debris field in my crawl space! During the clean up , I gave myself a hernia! Post surgery, I am back at it!!! The under belly of the home is 4’ to 1’ and has old 6mm black plastic. As I continue , I have one Q? When I am done…..what should the soil be like under the future encapsulation plastic ???? Damp ? Dry?
For now , 1/2 is bone dry the other is damp and moist. ????

Dry is best however if you properly encapsulated and sealed your crawl space. Your focus should be on the encapsulated area. However watch out as too much water or moisture can break through the vapor barrier.

Thanks for your videos! I have some questions I'm wondering if you're planning to cover in future videos.
1)Tips for dealing with a shallow crawl space. My crawl space is as shallow as 12" in some places.
    2) Tips for dealing with a very unlevel crawlspace. I seem to have large 'holes' in mine that are collecting a few inches of water.
    3) If you're planning systems replacements in the crawlspace (replacing plumbing, electrical), when should that be done? Wait until after encapsulation to work in a cleaner/easier environment, or before encapsulation to avoid risk of damage to the new vapor barrier?
