MMJ - This is NOT America

In February of 2000, Dutch TV channel VPRO TV aired David Kleijwegt's "This Is NOT America", a documentary that follows the band My Morning Jacket during their short winter tour in Holland. It includes interviews, acoustic tracks and footage from the live show at Rotown, Rotterdam. The only album the band had out at that time was 1999's "The Tennessee Fire", and they were somewhat obscure in America before really hitting their stride in Holland. The documentary serves as a revealing portrait of a young band before their transformation into a rock outfit now known for the epic bombast of their live shows, and the filmmaker pairs ethereal atmospherics to Jim's sometimes haunting songs quite perfectly. While a much different line-up exists now, this was, in effect, Jim James and company's first exposure to the world....the genesis of a super-band, if you will. Enjoy.
