- One of my favorite personal warmups which encompasses arpeggios, firming the corners with false fingerings, ear-training, and mixed articulations.
More to come. Email me at contact@horntrader.com for a PDF of this lesson.

I use to play by ear when i was 40 years. Sold my instruments and I am 68 yo, decided to learn to read and play a Jupiter 600 that I found in a pawn shop in excellent condition, I happened to only have my right arm, but I just saw a Haitian young man that plays the trumpet, I am also a legal immigrant like him. I am a licensed HVAC retired contractor. I remember when I went to school for Air Conditioning the guys there asked me. Why you want to learn air conditioning? I knew where there were coming from. What they don't know that they can kill your body, but never your spirit and the will to achieve any goal in your life. This gentleman is amazing. Thank you for taking the time to show us. I practice every day as many time as possible, I bought this trumpet 2 months ago and i love playing it.
Thank you for sharing your story. Keep your practice routine up. Thank you. For the kind words.
Thanks Bill
I'm working on the PDF Files now
They'll be ready by next week..
THANKS for your kind words!
Cheers,
Steve
Hi Johnny,
Thanks for your kind words...............
I play on the Selmer Chorus 80J and I use the HornTrader signature Mpc HT3CS28 for Commercial style of playing.
Best
Steve
je ne l'ai pas écouteé depuis 9 mois toujours excellent..et utile
Loved it! You looked a bit like Mao in the opening shot - and a bit philosophical today. I've been practicing on the driveway - the neighbors haven't complained so I must be doing something right?
Great stuff, Steve. Thanks!!! I'd be interested in a copy of your Warmups for guys who hate warmups when it's ready. I like the approach. A little like Thibaud, which I've been working through of late: fluidity.
This morning I got up and did my regular routine, read the news, etc... got ready to start working out and I'm sore this morning people don't think about the physical practice, but I said to myself, "Self, what it is you need to do before you start practice is hear a little Bobby Hackett." So Dreamsville is what I listened to, now this how workout sounds like Dreamsville to me, funny how the ear works.
Chad Macgargle I love Dreamsville!
All day I've worked on arranging it from Db major to I guess it's the C blues scale (C, Eb, F, F#, G, Bb; I guess that's C? I don't know.). I took all the 5th's and made them either 1's or 7's, put some diatonic patterns in a little differently, then changed the key. It's not exactly right but I'm working on it. It's been fun.
démarrons la semaine avec ça..super arpegio..melodic descend..to be found..
Je vais commencer à écrire ces exercices.
Restez à l'écoute du HornTrader,
Which horn are you playing on Steve? It looks like a Selmer TT? You are master of the alternate fingerings. I have never really used them but watching you I have started to learn them. I have to admit sometimes the A above the staff fingered with 1 and 2 is a crap shoot. I think fingering it with just 3 seems better. I just think it is funny I have never been taught that before after all of these years. Thanks for posting your videos.
first i watched just steve...now natalie..tyler....and winton ..thanks all of you
Ok,
That is Hilarius!
Thanks for that, I never knew or investigated that "interactive transcript" option.
All the best,
Steve
Next to the "flag" option you should see "interactive transcript" button. It's youtube's attempt to take the audio from your video and put it into written text.
Hi Steve, I enjoyed watching all of your videos. I hope to have skills like you someday, you are quite an inspiration. I'm curious, what horn do you play on? And what is your favorite all around horn? Thanks!
Hi Joe,
I'll get one out to you as soon as I get them printed.
Steve
Beautiul! And that low F# sound really open and nice! (I am a trombonist)
Thanks Sven! Stay tuned to the HonTrader!
The horn I'm playing a Selmer Chorus 80J I have two and I just love them.
I have a 1955 Selmer model 25 ( Large Bore ) coming in this week. It is a shame that Selmer manufacture make trumpets anymore.
I will post more false fingering etudes in the coming warmups. They are very good for your corners, mastering hard articulations, as well as playing some passages in-tune.

Steve
Trumpet and mouthpiece combinations are like a doctors prescription. My Mpc is essentially a Bach 3c with a 28 hole. The Selmer 80J horn is .461
So there's a good balance. When I do symphonic work or require a warmer sound I use a Bach Mt Vernon 3. and my horn is a large bore. I can't play shallow Mpcs so maybe a smaller or tighter drill on your cup will help you. the folks @ Kanstul have a copy of my Mpc on file. Call them up and ask for Jim New.
Hope that helps.........
Cheers,
Steve
happy new year steve ..thank you..
Thank You Antony All the best for 2018
Hi, i really enjoyed this video, and i was wondering if i could get a copy of the PDF sent to me?
Great stuff!
is it possible to get a PDF of all of these warm ups?
Judge,
As you know all to well. Sometimes people need more than just skills and dry drills to make trumpet practice interesting. I'm trying to make lessons @ HT as user friendly as possible.
Nothing like practicing outside! Bring a hat and some sun screen.

Such a hot player, you sunburned yourself!

Hey, what horn was that, by the way?
It is a nice looking horn. It is too bad they stopped making their trumpets. I did try a Selmer TT last year when I was in NY for work. They gave me a 14.A4A to use and was just too shallow for me. I really did not get a good test drive. Do you find the larger bore horns more difficult to control? I have found I seem to have more control on my smaller bore cornet than my ML Bach. Do you find this to be true or an indicator I need to practice more? :)
Wish I had you as a teacher
Well you can! I teach via Skype and Face Time Check my teaching link out.

You could make even a plastic trumpet sound great! Is there really much difference in professional horns? Or is it all just a matter of preference? Thanks!
+googeeish
Thanks for your Kind Words.
A professional instrument does make a difference
Mostly pitch./ The tone and "BLOW" are pretty much up to the players discretion.
Stay tuned To The HornTrader!
+HornTrader with that in mind would it be a good or bad idea for a beginner to have a pro trumpet if they could afford it or would it be more difficult to control and what trumpet would you suggest for a beginner if they could stretch to the price of a pro horn, love your videos and your playing so many people on UA-cam videos don't sound at all musical in the high register yet you always sound beautiful I love that classic sound you have it's definitely something I aspire to
What is a good way to remember my scales??
