an idea for the hole in your enclosure - I had similar problem with my hamster and I ended up using some leftover tiles we had and sticking them on every spot where he started chewing the wood, it's been working perfectly so far
Delightful video! My two rats just hit 2.5 years and they've started slowing down as well, but less than I was expecting. Their 3rd birthday will be in April but I'm just happy to have another Christmas with them.

Reminder that quarantining new animals is super important a couple months ago I didn’t do this with two mice is rescued and then ended spreading an illness which killed all mice mice expect for one. It’s super important and not enough people do it
Sorry that happened to you. Not enough people do it properly* most people view quarantine as just putting them in a separate room. But for mice and other rodents especially with airborn diseases, true quarantine is having them in a separate air space which for a lot of people isn’t feasible. Washing your hands in between cleaning each enclosure does help, but it’s why a lot of people who rescue wild rats and mice and also own them, have to have a separate out building or shed to do so as bringing them into your home is the same air space and can be risky.

I had rats when I was younger and my dad ended up being incredibly allergic to my rats and he was getting chest X rays, on steroids/antibiotics etc before we realised it was the rats so we couldn’t keep them in the end but he’s fine with every other animal like dogs, mice, hamsters etc just the rats that were causing him issues. Hopefully you can find a way around the rat allergy but please look after yourself too and it’s okay to think of yourself, it sounds like you have a really bad reaction to them!❤️❤️❤️

I have them in a Bucstate now partly for this reason!😅
Seems like Perspex will be the best way to stop the chewing - I can’t imagine how difficult it would be if you had to replace the entire bottom!
The Perspex is a perfect tight fit so hopefully it’ll do for a while and I can just leave it as it is for now 😅

Wonderful video as always i loved how excited River was for her new toys and snacks. I really hope your allergies are not getting worse you not beeing able to breath and speak properly is quit concerning and a really strong reaction....i had male rats too and was always a little allergic to there pee but gladly not as severe as yours only some irritated skin. But i had female rats before that and now again after my last male has gone and i have never had and still not have any reaction to them. Just thought i tell you that maybe its interesting for you in the future. :D i wish you and your pets all the best and a wonderfull christmas 🎄🎁
Out of curiosity i recently got like these yogurt gummies and was wondering if they might be safe for mice (i don't own any but kinda just want to know) here are all the ingredients: water, dried nonfat yogurt(whey protein concentrate, condensed nonfat milk, cultures [does not contain live and active cultures ]), pear juice concentrate, corn syrup, sugar, dextrose, gelatin. Contains 1% or less of: tricalcium phosphate, color(fruit juice, vegetable juice, beta carotene), citric acid, sunflower oil, lactic acid, calcium lactate, natural flavor, potassium sorbate added to maintain freshness, carnauba wax, vitamin D³. So is it safe for mice/rats/hamsters? I assume if it was it would only be in very small amounts. And yes i copied the list of ingredients from the bag😂 happy holidays❤💚❤💚❤💚 edit: sorry if i woke you up lol i just looked and it's like midnight where you're at lol just saying incase you have a alert sound on your phone and sleep with it next to you😂

I have an aquarium to keep some of my rats in, any idea where to find good but cheaper cages to keep them in until they get bigger?
Rats shouldn’t be kept in aquariums due to lack of ventilation. Facebook market place is a good place to find cheap second hand metal cages 😊

Does anybody know if rats can eat peanut butter just wondering because i have rats and they love it but some people say not to have it ( i water it down with milk)

I recently rescued them from someone who didn't want them anymore, they were in a small empty cage with a mouldy water bottle 😢
I've bought a cosy pet XL cage that has a middle level and two shelves.
I've seen other people take out the middle section, and ladders out but I'm wondering if perhaps it would be best to keep them in as they are elderly and on Is poorly 🤔
I don’t think Ive done a dedicated video to that but I’d keep them in / put them in for him. Make sure he has everything he needs on the base of the cage and also plenty of hammocks to catch him if he does slip and fall

You need to have at least 2 mice, but 3+ is best 😊

You'll need to get more before the two you have start to pass away, or rehome them before that happens if you're not allowed any more mice after this, to prevent you from having a lone mouse situation@@luciapratt8060
