Living in Pathanamthitta District, our family belongs to Chengannur. I have the same feelings for Thiruvithamcore. I feel more at home as I move down south of Kerala. In fact, in my family we have many Trivandrum recipes like Pazhamkoottan, Mulakucurry, Boli-Palpayasam etc which most of my fellow district residents have not even heard of.
When u have jaggery, u dont tend to overeat. But sugar makes u crave more and keep eating all thru out the day. Jaggery doesn't quickly spike up sugar levels in blood. Palm jaggery (pana chakara) is healthier than sugarcane jaggery

Jaggery has more nutrients than sugar but that doesnt make it healthy as such. The main reason is jaggery has a much bigger glycemic index than sugar which is very risky for people with diabetes. Sharkara is another form of sugar. Sugar is more refined and processed. Unlike sugar jaggery has got more nutritious benefits like magnesium , potassium, copper, iron etc. but both does the same work in spike for diabetic patients.
Banana, jaggery, coconut milk,ghee...all are good for health...it doesn't mean that we can consume it everyday..like our ancestors we can consume it occasionally..

Jaggery is healthy, it's the raw form of cane sugar than the table sugar(which is the final product). In general both have same or almost same level of carbohydrates and sugar level the only one difference is jaggery is polysaccharide made and it will take some time for digestion or breaking down in to glucose, infact table sugar will transform easily and form blood glucose.......
