I'm still tuning up the AI Camera Tracking Robot: ua-cam.com/video/jouYRb70814/v-deo.html Putting diffusers on my backlights makes the tracking a lot more reliable so the camera work gets less crazy towards the end of the video!
It works really reliable actually. And very organic. Without knowing it's a robot, you'd just assume you have an actual camera man.
Out of interest, do you have any other 'daily driver' robots - ones that help you on a regular basis?
I love how you are actually using it.
I think there is some work to be done. It's like a cameraman on steroids
Hey I ranked all you guys' gifts -- (DUDE, I've already posted this list to almost everyone who took part and I only now realize you made something too...)
The nice list:
Colin -- 9/10 and only because he didn't send it. Ok let's say 10/10 because his video was the most entertaining of the lot.
Emily -- Solid 10/10, not entirely for the tie launcher, which is awesome, but because she really thought about the perfect gift for Colin.
Tony -- 10/10 for the same reason as Emily. This is why craftsmen are great gift-givers.
LMNC -- 10/10 as well. The font size was an issue but it is still a fantastic gift
James -- 10/10. You really really made something awesome that Emily would actually really enjoy. Heck, yours is so good it could be marketed. When I was a kid, I would have played with these things until they broke.
The good:
Xyla -- 8/10, very cool, but it was kind of a shameless self-insert. Christmas gifts are defined by thinking about the other person. Made me think of this i.imgur.com/IPFrK7A.jpeg
Jimmy -- 7/10 BECAUSE HE SCUFFED SUCH NICE LEATHER. lol no really I'm serious. You wouldn't buy a pre-dented metal tool box. You would want a nice new one and then add the dents yourself.
The naughty list: I put more thought into making this list than these did for the person they gifted.
Kids Invent Stuff - meh, like 5/10. It's not good but it doesn't suck TOO badly
Becky - 3/10. She did take the time to think of Tony but.. gave him.. bendy toys.. because Tony.. enjoys being able to bend stuff very well? Seems like giving a crocheted hat to that one aunt in your family who crochets all the time.
James spinning chair party face
I thought I recognized those punching arms somewhere haha. What an awesome gift. Thanks James!
that rotational thrusting device gave you ideas right XD
I'm sure you will have hours of fun !
@@g60force why would you say that?
I also have seen enough porn to recognize them, magnetic tips tough
@@Ramkoerss You can put different fists on them.
This was LOVELY! (And let’s tear up some dance floors at Maker Central!)
great gift and loved the build! those are some beefy 3d prints!
The camera bot is doing an amazing job. Feels really natural
Really brings life to his video, love it!
Natural, but a little to active.
Wow, even though I watched the camera bot video I just assumed another human was holding the camera, ha ha amazing..
I didn't realize until I saw this
I wouldn’t have noticed if I hadn’t already watched him build it. I saw the motion and knew he was using the bot, haha. I agree- it looks really natural but it needs a small bit of tuning in my opinion (mainly in the up and down movement) (:
EDIT: After some thought I want to clarify and give my opinion on a solution- how I think it can be "tuned" is to sort of 'bias' zooming out over jumping back and forth scanning James' face up and down like it kinda does now when it thinks hes moving. Just a thought!
So glad you liked it... yeah that button doesnt do anything....
Ruth & Shawn
MERRY CRIMBO JAMES
MERRY CHIMBO!!!!
I genuinely love this series every year.
i like the idea of knocking your opponents fist off to win the round :D
That was a really nice gift, improvising on the recipient's original idea and getting her a toy maker's version! Awesome!
Makers Secret Santa videos are always great.
I love how Tony is just a pair of hands.
They look like an adaptation of the Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots. Awesome!
the camera bot makes your videos feel much more dynamic now. nice job
Honestly, the best present of all would be for Samayah who gets to see her invention come to life as a gift! That would be so freaking cool!
Kids Invent Stuff really lucked out, I can't think of a better maker to show off that chair!
Beautiful! And thank you! I'm always looking forward to this santa-tradition!
i was like... damn thats a lot of the effort, hope he doesn't get anything lousy
but then i saw the party chair glory
The party chair is AWESOME!!
I watched this guy when he was still making the hulk buster. Just looking back at the stuff I used to watch. Insane looking back at this stuff.
Xyla started my circle! Merry Christmas!
I call him 'Fister Roboto'.
He's a fully-integrated multi-fetish artificial being.
And the best part is that he's learning.
That actually sounds like a great idea for a competitive version of those bots
And here I was hoping for Rock'em Sock'em Robots for Christmas.
A man who knows how to please a lady at christmas ! great gift....cheers.
Im glad im not the only one who thought this 🤣🤣🤣
I want that chair. LOL! Better than a glitter bomb!
I didn’t even realize it was the camera robot until I looked into the comments. Great job, it looks extremely human, if this were any other channel I’d just think they got a good camera person
Ten years later, and you will still find confetti when cleaning.
I felt like a little kid just watching the bots dance and punch. I'd have *loved* to get that for Christmas!
So awesome that you turned something she thought was a failure into a gift. I love it. Thank you for sharing this with us. So much attention to detail as well. 🙂
Athletic greens is people.
Every year these get me into the Christmas spirit. I have no smile until I see some of the absolutely crazy stuff that is made. A present in not just giving something, it's being thoughtful of the person receiving the gift.
It feels like a missed opportunity to call these Rock'Em Sock'Em BattleBots but great video! Merry Christmas!
Oh, it's that time again. This series is always great.
That is such an elegant design! Well done!
Nice to see your camera bot is working out... well it may be a little on the nervous side, thinking it might get replaced by a human. The battle bots you made seem deceptively simple and very fun. The party chair also looks like a rockin' good time.
Nice Al Borland reference!
You should release this as a commercial product. That game would be amazing
What a fun update to Rock'em Sock'em Robots! (Yes, I'm OLD)
The party chair NEEDS to be used for a trip to the corner store.
If this isn't already a toy... I definitely reckon there's a market for it!
Dang. I would love to see William Osman and Michael Reeves inject their chaos to this.
Super fun! Both gifts!
I love your sense of humor
Ah, mini Cassius Chromes! Always good to see some fun stuff like this!
8:59 THE PARTY CHAIR INVENTION IS REALLY COOL GOOD JOB
All of the gifts were good but I think your gift was definitely the most fun!
Great little project James. Merry xmas.
That party chair is epic!
not gonna lie, that chair is better than any gamer chair out there XD
Just the "huh, doesn't do anything" as a piece of confetti falls off your head has me dying
i got a feeling that is going to get used for something else...
love the Rock 'em Sock 'em robot robots!
really cool desion
Getting some real Vitameatavegamin vibes from that sponsor spot 😂
Those bots look like a lot of fun.
For your Hawking-Travolta crossover cosplay.
Who wouldn't want a reciprocating punching arm?
THAT CHAIR!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Looks like James hate's the Blu Soldier as much as Valve does.
Just a suggestion, I think it would be really cool to see a robot that can go backwards forwards and turn using just a single motor
Must first define what a motor is. Yes there is actual ambiguity in this even though there's a scientific definition......
New to your channel but looks like you've got another subscriber here. Really like the party chair too.
i could tell the camera bot is doing its job. a little jittery when it sees non humans but so cool to watch it in use for a vid
Loving the camera work Cameraman John!
The camera bot it's really cool! Make the video a lot more dinamic!!
Me encanta !!!!!
Break away armor or targets on the bots would be more fun than a fist that falls off when you attack at the wrong angle. in my experience, 'fun' is way different and harder to achieve than 'works'
the engineering on that boxing arm, where did I see that before XD
Mate I can’t believe you have been caught by ag1 lol, you can’t tell me it taste good I just love content creators faces after they take a sip lol
Tastes minty
i want a party Rocking Chair !!!!!
missed opportunity to call it the "rockin' chair"
THAT IS REALLY COOL xDD
👏👏👏
Hi James. I know time is the biggest premium and you always go for the thing you already know well for speed/ease but thought I'd mention that ATTiny85's might have been a good option for the controllers as they take quite a wide range of input voltages and you can use a couple of AA batteries with them. I think you just about have enough IO for this use case too without using the reset pin (2 alg, 1 dig, MOSI and CLK). They are peanuts cheap and not too much harder to program than standard usb attached arduino plus you can use standard arduino code/IDE to code for them. Only thing I'm not sure on is if the NRF library has support but in theory it should...
So much money spent on this lol. 🙏
You should have added a feature so the robot knows when it has lost its glove and then it would shut off itself and make a sound or light signal, singalling its defeat!
James got all the sponsors 😂
You got glitter bombed! Are you sure you didn't steal that package? 😉
You missed an oportunity by not painting blue one like Thomas the tank engine
It's Soylent Green!
your wiring is way cleaner than look-mum-no-computer's
I’d be happy to fill a slot if you’re short on makers.
I just watched every secret Santa and if you ask me you got the best gift . lucky you
Hopefully he has since figured out the bluetooth pairing. It's a shame they also didn't include an aux-in cable alternative, but I guess this is the way of the world thanks to Apple and "braveness" or whatever you want to call reduced functionality.
0:47 "I've pulled Emily the engineer"
Dude! A gentleman never reveals such things! 😜
She never got the arms to punch though, she just drove them stationary into the other one and lost every time.
CASSIUS CHROME REFERENCE?!?
Have to be honest seen something very similar in Ann summers 😮
This is one of the places that using the encoders would have been a good idea to use so when the controls are released the hands would always go back to fully retracted, mostly for aesthetics and to also allow a single 'punch'.
But that really is nit-picking an otherwise a fun idea.
all these inventive makers make all these thins and non have a torque controlled power screwdriver...
What are the specs of the motor and where do you buy them from? I would like to try and buy some to build these bots for my kids.
BTW, Keep up the good work. I am an engineer myself but some of the stuff you manage to come up with is amazing.
neat idea, the only thing i have issue with is promoting a 3d filament that is only really affordable in the USA in europe it is amazon at 120 euros plus and your link no longer works, some food for thought i see alot of european makers hawking stuff for US companies that don't supply outside of the us/canada.
The "twelve years of Christmas"?
James please do a more advanced bristle bot. I have been thinking about making a battle bot but using a bristle drive so that I can get a weight bonus since I'm not using wheels.
Those nrf24l01 looks like perfect thing to remotely control vehicles, but I have a problem, when after some time my transmitter stops transmitting. I'm using arduino uno boards. Don't want to get to technical here, but maybe someone here encountered this problem before? Maybe there is a simple solution?
Stephen Hawkin at a rave.
Can you recommend a class at one of the online schools that teaches the process you used here beginning to end?
🎄🎄
Oh mercy me i do declare the violence is scary. 🙄
i like how 70% of the video is just sponsers
Have you put up the models for the robots anywhere for purchase?
Link in description to Github
The camera bot is a cool project but it very much makes the videos a motion sickness sim
