also check out "Tool - Fear Inoculum". At EXACTLY the half point of the song, they sing "my own Mitosis" and then the second half of the song starts and the structure changes.
This song give me chills every time. It gives off a vibe of "I created something unspeakably horrid, but I love it like my child and won't let it die". Plus, hats off to Ross of course, but just imagine Einar Solberg on vocals here.
3:00 is so haunting yet so beautiful. One of the best synths I've ever heard. This whole song is amazing, my only complaint is that I wish it was longer! This album is gonna be incredible
Unfortunately this is the best track on the album for me. It makes me feel excited, like the whole of Affinity did. The others sound too much like Dream Theater and Opeth and there aren't enough keyboards, hooks or wibbly bits. There is also way too much pointless widdling and not enough sonic experimentation for my liking. Affinity was a tough album to beat. I think it had just the right amount of everything. It was absolute genius from start to finish....
Really dig the differences between the first and second chorus. In the first one everything is unified, but not in the second one. Almost like something that is one splitting into separate units, maybe symbolic for something
So, I think the video has helped me finally understand a bit of the meaning behind this song...and, therefore, the whole album... ...Diego got a sweet new synthesizer!
every album they make is sooo so good, the pop approach on Affinity, the more hardcore and metal-ly approach on Vector, and a more experimental but still sticking with their roots approach on Virus!
It should be international law that they play this at every show. Its snappy, good and complex, and has a nice smooth chorus with audience interaction... also my favorite off the album aside from Puzzle Box
Preserved in time The insect comes alive The amber falls away The vector strikes How can such a tiny wound Cause me so much pain? [Chorus:] It's the beauty in the flaw The grace of imperfection Oh, oh Now I'm twisted out of form By unnatural selection Oh, oh A horrifying violation Of a human form A cell divides then multiplies A strange mutation overrides And carbon-copies into four [Chorus] Alien impostor Pretender I'll keep you safe now Close to my heart [x2] [Chorus x2]
My interpretation of Vector is that it’s a story of a man who is infected with an alien parasite, which is slowly killing him. Host is the song about him coming to terms that he’s going to die, and when he dies, it will “stand tall.”
Clearly, you do not know this band. Most of Haken's influences are from 30 years ago or more, certainly not the bands you mention. Those bands sound like Haken ... well ... maybe not Meshugga.
@@jrlaudio i mean btbam is also a 21 year old band influenced by the same bands. trust they're bouncing ideas back in forth. btbam's bassist is in a band called nova collective featuring the haken guitarist
I just cant get enough of this drums. I regularly come back to listen to this. Because of drums. I am not even a drummer but this is the first track I listen SOLELY for drums.
...best in the last 10 years? Really? Did you ever listen to Leprous (because Haken obviously did)? Fates Warning (have already two albums in this time also)? Anubis? Riverside? Ayreon? IQ? Gojira? Cynthesis? Pendragon? Ooooo man, should I count more? They have something, but definitely far from the best for me - not in top 20 at least...
...yes, if its only your opinion (like what I wrote - "for me"), then I'm absolutely agree! Every one has different tastes. But what I will suggest you - please, go and check those bands, that you did't follow (Cynthesis (The Dying planet - from the Tipton brothers this year), Pendragon(!!!) and IQ, Wolverine also...Cheers!
I'm super glad they're coming back with a proper fictional concept for this album. Nothing paints a picture in my mind better than a solid story, I think that's why I love the first two albums the most. While they said it's up to the listener to decide truly how this concept plays out, you can still get a direction from what we've heard so far. Also, the lyrics put a really haunting image in my head. Perhaps genetic experiments from the doctor?
For the first 2 tracks I disagreed with that claim, but in this one there's a strong Leprous influence indeed. Not in a bad way and certainly not even close to copying them, but it's there.
I don't get this favorite band thing when you have Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree, Tool, Anathema, Opeth etc wtf man? And the Steven Wilson profile pic? Is he in HAKEN? because it's your fav band 😂
Now this is more like it!!!! Wasn't struck with The Good Doctor tbh. Think Puzzle Box will grow but this one.....INSTANT. Oh man! That chorus! Those chord changes. Yes its like Leprous but still sounds Haken. Absolutely fuckin LOVE IT. Reminds me how I felt when I first heard most of Affinity......happy to be alive and for my ears to experience this
Very nice closer to this album. All three songs have shown that this album is certainly going to be a heavier album for Haken, which makes me more excited for it
I need to finally give these guys some proper attention, I liked what I'd heard before and this track is just damn great and really creative. They've been "around my radar" for so long now.
J'aime beaucoup la façon dont ils se sont inspirés de leur travail sur Malina pour faire cette chanson. Et la façon dont ils mix ça de manière un peu Djent ça rend vraiment bien !
Another perfect mix of thecnic and melody of the better prog band of the moment? I saw them in concert 3 times in Barcelona. We will miss in this tour. Is possible another european leg of the tour later?
This is why you can never really have the "best" singer ever or the "best" guitarist ever. There are singers better than Ross, yes, but even if you put an icon like Steve Perry as the singer for Haken... it just wouldn't work. Same with Richard Henshall and the others!! Without them, Haken wouldn't be Haken.
Definitely the sickest song about mitosis.
also check out "Tool - Fear Inoculum".
At EXACTLY the half point of the song, they sing "my own Mitosis" and then the second half of the song starts and the structure changes.
Mitosis is so prog

That chord change from the F to the E from 4:15 to 4:25 is so immensely satisfying omg

I love that moment. It sounds like the end of the world.
This song give me chills every time. It gives off a vibe of "I created something unspeakably horrid, but I love it like my child and won't let it die".
Plus, hats off to Ross of course, but just imagine Einar Solberg on vocals here.
I can't stop listening to Haken, Tesseract and Leprous in the last 2 years... Awesome stuff!
I can’t either!
Ditto
Agreed
Ha, same! Except it's 1 year for me, not 2. Btw i loved the hell out of that masterpiece of an Album from tesseract (war of being)
In most of Haken's songs, there's always a section in 7/16 that always blows me the f*** away.
Where is the section in this song
Can you timestamp the section? I would like to check if I can count it out
educostanzo 1:17 here, pretty standard quarter, quarter, dotted eight, dotted eight pattern
shit gets real with the 15/8 at 2:08 tho
yeah i mean its pretty simple for an odd time signature, but its simplicity makes it hard-hitting at the same time (and i friggin love it)
3:00 is so haunting yet so beautiful. One of the best synths I've ever heard. This whole song is amazing, my only complaint is that I wish it was longer! This album is gonna be incredible
Yeah, like 20 minutes or so. :)
Undoubtedly the most beautiful part of the song!
I call it muffled pads. I always love Diego's sound choices.
I'd also wish a sick melo-shred solo after the last chorus before the closing theme. But for that, it would definitely be my new favourite song ever
Really dig the differences between the first and second chorus. In the first one everything is unified, but not in the second one. Almost like something that is one splitting into separate units, maybe symbolic for something
This is a fantastic observation. Thank you!
Given the theme of the song, that observation fits perfectly: when cells divide (i.e. undergo mitosis) they indeed split 'into separate units' :)
This album in its entirety is fucking fantastic on a conceptual level. Best concept album out there to me, without doubt.
So, I think the video has helped me finally understand a bit of the meaning behind this song...and, therefore, the whole album...
...Diego got a sweet new synthesizer!
I love progressive music so much
This song is phenomenal. Perfect fusion of styles/influence that sounds unique and exhilarating.

I became the Cockroach King after listening to this.
That's exactly how the album ends.

ALL HAIL THE LYRIC KING
This one is about the "Cockroach King", too imo.
*sigh*
My interpretation of Vector is that it’s a story of a man who is infected with an alien parasite, which is slowly killing him. Host is the song about him coming to terms that he’s going to die, and when he dies, it will “stand tall.”
Wow. This whole time I thought the lyric was "The great sovereign perfection"
Amazing atmosphere. That's when you know the music is good, not by how technical and complicated is, but how much it can touch your heart.
Man this band never fails to blow me away. This is like probably in my top 3 Haken songs and I only just heard it.
Songs only get better from the first listen, as soon as the vocals kicked in I knew I wouldn't put it down for the next week
The album had influences from BTBAM, Leprous and even Meshuggah. Really amazing album.

I deeply feel all 3 songs so far have a connection to the cockroach king in various ways
I like to see the cockroach king in a literal, quirky way too, but I believe it's just a metaphor for something bad. Greed, etc
