Happy Nurse’s Week. Remember once a nurse always a nurse. Just now you are nurturing plants and doing a damn good job. Love your DYI’s. We love you Fern. Just know that❤
This is so thoughtful, thank you so much Carmen 🥹❤️
Before you said it, I could see something. I know too much stress, myself. Sending positive thoughts and hugs! ❤ You are so amazing and loved!
Fern,
The yellow could be due to over fertilization. My Anthurium got yellow edges after I added fertilizer, so i changed out the potting soil and added only worm castings and haven't had a yellowish problem since.
This new mic sounds so smooth!
oh good I'm so glad you think so!! still fiddling with settings a little bit, but I think I'm going to really like it :)
So sorry to hear you’ve been stressed bestie 🥺 remember that all this stress is temporary and better days are to come 💕 pls make time for yourself to do things that bring you joy and distract you from every day stress for even just a moment ❤
Good job Fern 💕 I think that will definitely help give them more support! Thank you for making videos for us even when you’re not feeling 100% 🤗 Big hugs girl!!
Great timing on this! I sooooo need to extend some of my Anthuriums too so thanks for tips and inspiration. I think we are all just doing our best with these beauties. Their happiness can be so unpredictable. 💚 🌱
Hey gorgeous, really sorry to hear that you are stressed. Please take care of yourself and remember self-love is always the most important ❤️
Sorry to hear you've been stressed, hopefully that resolved soon! Also, happy nurses week from a fellow nurse!
The browning and yellowing is what happens to my alocasia and I'm at my wits end with them! You are much more patient than I am! Love the mix of short and long videos!!
Someone on here said if it yellows it’s overwatered, and if it’s crispy brown it’s underwatered. 🤷♀️
@@jaoc4283 yeah, but it happens at the same time, so no clue. I've decided to give them away. I just don't think we are a good fit 😂
Oh thank you so much Janea! I hope you were spoiled during nurses week, you sure deserve it for all of that hard work :)
Sorry you are stressed. Wow, the plastic cups worked so well and looked easy to do. Thanks so much for this video. 🌱💚🌱
IMO, in my environment i find Anthurium need double the aeration. Those chonko, fibrous fuzzy roots are a tell of higher oxygen intake. I use these cool 4-10 ceramic orchid pots, with huge decorative holes in them. Its made all the difference in growth from none
What a great idea! have a couple of those left over from my orchid phase that didn’t go so well. Will repurpose them as I try anthuriums 😊
Ah thank you so much for this!! You're probably right, they don't get a ton of aeration. I'll have to keep that in mind going forward.
Plot twist for your new Anthurium when you get them: Prep 4-inch pots before potting up the plants with a collar already inserted, but pushed all the way in. Then, once your plant grows enough to need the collar, you just pull it up, fill it with potting mix, done. Haha! :D
Oh you are genius 🙌
Hi Fern. Plant people can be so inventive, I saw the pot extension done recently and thought it was such a great idea. It pays to keep all kinds of plastic containers, you just need space to store them. As for the yellowing leaves, maybe a fungal issue, I really don’t know but a spray with something can’t do any harm. Good luck!
I use plastic water bottles from 540 ml to 2 L, cut the top and bottom off, and make plastic rings for pot extenders. I tape the seam shut... you can get several extenders from one bottle depending on how deep you want it. And, I use this technique on my alocasia, it got me out of the one in one out situation...
I've also recently done this to a couple alocasia and they've loved it!
This is so genius, thank you for sharing. And a great idea to use them for Alocasia too!!
Clicked so fast omg yay ☺️ I was just hoping for another planty video to watch!! 🥰 I hope you feel better soon!
oh thank you angel 🥺💖
Yes, tape it is the best idea.
This came right on time because I need to figure out how to extend a bunch of my anthurium pots …I’m just getting into anthurium and had no clue how wild their roots are lol 🥴
I just secured philodendron sharoniae, philodendron joepii and philodendron dragon narrow form for less 100$ SGD
I'm so happy 🎉
Wowieeee that I quite the haul! 👏
Kevin does this all the time. But yours turned out just fine.
Oh honey! I can feel your stressed out.. Hopefully whatever the cause has been fixed. Sending love to you and Olive always 💚🐶🌿
So now I have some some plant work to do today. ❤
Thank you.
Your did great on your pot extension. Thanks for sharing Fern!
Sorry you're feeling a bit stressed. I hope you feel better very soon.
By the way the new mic sounds great and it looks good too. Could hardly see it. Actually didn't see it til you pointed it out lol.
Anyway I hope you and Olive are doing well. Much love to both of you ❤
Anthuriums are very prone to fungal issues. If they have moisture on their leaves it’ll definitely cause yellowing and imperfections there are some solutions people use to help prevent this but keep in mind it’s also just an anthurium thing your not doing anything wrong! But also to help with the anthuriums flopping try giving them a moss pole, my forgettii adores it’s pole
new mic is great!!! i always feel like i turn to my plants when i get stressed w/o thinking
Hey Fern :) Everything Plants on UA-cam makes his own pot extenders with just cut up nursery pots! Such a cheap and simple solution so what you did was perfect
And for my anthuriums I find having them in pon in aroid tower pots really anchors them down and limits flopping (plus mine are all loving pon in general)
Oh I will have to watch his video! I thought of using nursery pots too and then spotted the clear cups and thought it would be nice to be able to see the roots progress.
@@wildfern yeah the clear ones do look much nicer I think
I’m not a huge anthurium fan but that mag x lux is stunning 😍
Love your posture of noticing and learning ❤ I don't have any anthurium, but I feel like I'm a more mindful person since taking on houseplants bc of how often I need to slow down and observe them 😊🪴
yes!! I agree with you, I think they've made me a lot more mindful and appreciative in general ☺️
@@wildfern 100% 🙌🏽 my family chuckles when I'm gasping over new leaves and peduncles 😂 but I know they love the joy it brings me. And the people around me benefit from how plant care has impacted me ❤️
Always the creative one! Thanks for sharing your tips.
🥺🥰
I can't believe how big your seedlings are now!! I was just rewatching them being super wittle 🥹
Right!! They're all grown up 🥺
Aww you definitely seem off in this video. I hope you’re well and your mental wellness improves asap 🤎🤎🤎🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽
I’m so glad you’re working on anthurium care because I’m in the same boat I have hundreds of everything else ☠️ yours look stunning!! 💗👌🏼
This Mic is definitely giving me same vibes haha I love it your videos were already relaxing before but now that I can hear literally everything I feel like I could fall asleep😭
For the extencion i use a water bottle cut it in half and cot the botton part then cut the middle up and put in on the plant with tape and that is my extender
Oh a bottle is a great idea! I will keep that one in mind.
PS: The leaf disease is Blight leaf (a fungal disease). The reason for leaf spot or leaf blight is bacteria that infect the leaves. Treat bacterial blight by removing infected anthurium leaves and applying fungicide.
yellow spots on forgetii can be caused by a fungal or bacterial infection. You need to spray the antifungal preparation and water the roots with it. It should helps 😊
Wooow you like anthurium.....I like croton, bromelia and aglonema....
That’s a great way for a good boost,👍
💚☘️🌵🌱💚
A smaller and more compact alternative to the Starbucks cup is the tops of water bottles!! I chop the water bottle in half, remove the opening where the lid screws in, then chop the excess off on the end so it’s the perfect height!! It takes less medium to fill it too!!
So smart!!! 👏
your mic sounds very good! I hope the technical difficulties were just a fluke
Love your Anthirium collection 🧡
Fern, are you using CalMag? Anthurium seem to need it more than my other plants.
I use it sometimes. I'll keep that in mind for them! Thank you 🙏
Fern where do you get your clear pots from? Also life can be stressful sometimes but you’re doing great 😊 I’m grateful for your videos they make me so happy!
I just get them from my local plant shop in the orchid section :)
I can’t believe I’m getting a video by fern on my favorite genus like cmon feeling BLESSED 🥹 take care of yourself I hope you’re feeling better soon Xx
Ohhh angel, more Anthurium content coming your way soon 💖😉
New mic audio is **chefs kiss**
Lol apparently I commented this too soon 😅🙃
Hahah I appreciate it!! I'm slowly figuring it out 😆
Someone I watch here says that anthuriums new leaves get a mark if they’re up against another leaf, or touch the leaves that it leaves a mark on it.
i only have one anthurium so feel free to ignore my opinion, but i keep mine in sphagnum and give fertilizer. i water when the top looks dry, and he is in room humidity, which is…. damn i just googled the weather and today it’s 77% humidity, but i swear usually it’s in the fifties.
edit: i don’t know what it is, i was gifted a cutting of it, but i THINK it’s a magnificum verde
The yellowing on the forgetii looks to be fungal. They are all super cute though 🥰
That's a great idea! Love it. 😁
That was a great idea to extend pot
That's a very clever pot extension trick. And I hope you get to feeling better soon Fern. You should do a camping trip or something and unwind. 🏕
I think the problem with the anthurium forgetii is the humidity. Have you tried putting it in higher humidity or in one of you’re cabinet?
They're already in my cabinet in 80% humidity :( lol
I like to just add a lazypole strap to the top, super easy to install and it's already got a closing mechanism no tape needed
And the cups I keep by default becaise they are tall for plants since I only have no drainage
We’re the leaves being handled or up against something that stressed it?
I always get so excited when a new Fern video drops, you’re my favorite content creator. ❤
Sorry you’re stressing, deep breaths😮💨
hi, recently did this type of an extension too and I'm eagerly awaiting the results :D
Super random, but I literally just did this to an apple tree that was delivered to my housee. It had the tiniest rood system, so I put it in a good sized pot for the roots, so they could grow before it ends up in its final location (the ground) but there were roots growing out of the base of the trunk. I had the same conversation with my roommate "should I tape it? Do I need to? Ya I'll just go ahead and do it" lol
I also chopped and propped my forgetii and they seem to absolutely hateee living in room humidity I have two chunks in my tent and they are growing well and look pretty the one in my living room though is struggling 😪
Ugh they can be so difficult :(
You’re really encouraging me to give anthuriums a try! 😅
Love the Starbucks cup hack! I also love to use water bottles for this and lazy poles, but for some reason my brain didn’t make the jump that I could also cut up cups 😂 ( I would struggle with the bottle-derived collars being too narrow to make pot extenders for wide-base anthurium, and would end up having to cut, overlap and tape them when I could’ve used a cup for the wider diameter 😅)
Hey fern ❤ the crisping of yellowing 9:16 of the leaves at the edge is usually underwatering and letting them go dry. Anthuriums wdinirlt need a little bit more water and I find never want to dry out completely or stay dry even for a day . ❤❤❤ help that helps
That does help thank you 💚 I'm slowly getting better with my under-watering, thankfully lol.
Rosseau Plant cares extenders dimensions: Assembled Specifications:
Height: 2 inches
Diameter: 5.25 Inches
Makes me want to add a Anthereum to my collection ❤
Is there a reason that you did that extension instead of a moss pole?
Most anthurium don’t vine up a moss pole like a philodendron would. They do get a bit taller as they grow though, so it’s often helpful to give them a taller pot to take advantage of all the roots. A stake would work for support too, but it won’t grow up along it.
I wonder how anthuriums would do in self watering pots with pon. I got my first ever anthurium a few weeks ago, a baby Crystallinum. I have been thinking that probably Pon could be a good option for it
I'm pretty sure Kaylee Ellen here on UA-cam has used pon with anthurium, probably leca too.
@@LulaMae21 yes, you’re right!
All my anthurium and alocasia are in pon. I've had good luck with it
All of my anthurium are either in pon or leca. They love it
Hi, could I know what mic do you use ? Thanks :)
Rode Wireless Go with the Rode Lav Mic :)
Lady love! Try fertilizing the crap out of your anthuriums!! A friend told me this and I’m trying it as well.
Hey girlie , do you ever see those little silver bugs I think there called spring tails , I’ve been told they are doing no harm they actually eat old and decaying debri so just leave them - but I find when I do this moss hack thing for my anthuriums i will see some
Of those springtails crawling around the moss at the inside of the pot (I use clear pots ) ugh they are so annoying . Feel like dead bug doesn’t do anything to them lol
I do notice them sometimes yes lol! And also in my moss poles 👀
I wonder why you're not using a small bamboo stick instead? Just curious
The roots will grow down into the pot this way and help the plant to grow better!
Way off topic but I love your septum ring and I want it, where's you get it?
It’s just two plain rings :) I had to stretch my septum up a couple of sizes to fit them though
So why don't you use a short bamboo stick or similar as a mini pole for support? Seems so much easier :)
Because the plant will benefit from the roots along the stem being able to grow down into the pot :) a pole would definitely work, you just wouldn't get the benefit of more healthy roots being utilized!
one words to describe my anthurium collection : stumps.
I feel this
Great idea shame I don’t drink Starbucks lol
I have no anthurium andddd I don’t think I’ll add any to my collection lol. They’re beautiful plants but they’re wayyyyy too high maintenance for me haha
I feel you. They give me a headache sometimes lol.
Helloooooo❤
hello!! thank you for watching :)
❤️❤️❤️
Tranfer to a bigger pot❤😅
I will when it needs an up-pot :) probably in a couple of months.
💚💚
0:47 fiddly fig? No fiddly fern
Have you ever owned an aquarium?
No, just when I was a kid. My mom keeps fish though :)
❤👍👏👏👏👏
It’s probably systemic in some way.
Ooh I meant Russo
That cup is too tall. It doesn’t need to be sunk in the soil. Just tape the edges together.
Why not just replant it in a taller pot. In the Starbucks-cup without cutting it.
I don't want to disturb the roots until it actually needs an up-pot, but it sure would be nice if it were easier to find tall pots haha.
If humans just evolved a third arm and hand our repotting chores would be easier. 😂
Please marry me!!!
Hey fern I had no luck with Anthurium until I went semi hydro with lecha. The yellowing is possibly because of humidity?
The yellowing is lack of air flow. You need more air circulation.
Thank you 🙏 *turns up fan*
