Hi guys! I’m from Rhodes and watching that video made me so happy ! I wanted to comment that the first “souvlatzidiko”(this is how we call the restaurants that sell souvlaki and gyros) is called “Kélides” Is one of the most respected ones in the island. There is no one who hasn’t tried it and doesn’t like it. That pita that you had , is a pita made by only two family businesses in Rhodes and the recipe of it , is a secret. They didn’t used to use it for souvlaki, but since 5 years ago , it started to be getting more and more requested in the island .Some stores in Athens have it also but it’s rare to find it there. The name of that pita is “roditiki ladopita” ( direct translation : rhodian oil pie) Next time you visit make sure to try one gyros from “special” and souvlaki from “ Laika” and “Sakelaris” . Best traditional and original suvlaki ever. French potatoes aren’t in the “original” recipe of suvlaki and gyros, that’s why you’ll see in a lot of places not putting them in the pita. I like your videos a lot! Keep doing what you do best and if you need anything when it comes to Rhodes or Athens feel free to ask me :)
Hello! Can you please tell us where in Rhodes we find restaurants that serve soup? Like chicken soup, vegetable soup and so on. Me and my family are traveling to Rhodos town in july and we are used to eating soups at lunch every day and we are not sure where we can find good soups. Thank you! 🌺🌿
Ohh thanks for the tips! I’ll check them out in the next couple of days. What else can you recommend? Not just food, maybe some cliffs for diving or some other hidden gems like lost places? What’s a must do activity?
I visited Rhodes a few times while I was in the US Navy in the 1990s. Our first stop was the nearest gyro shop, usually on a street corner. Unlike most sailors, I visited the historical sites, restaurants, and beaches and waited until after dark to start drinking. I’m 55 years old now and wish I could go back to Greece.
I am SO lucky to live almost next door to Kellides, and YES it is my favorite souvlaki/Gyros place in Rhodes town. First day I visited the place a came back 4 times that day... It's THAT GOOD ❤️ And the family who is running the place and have done for MANY years, are so do nice 😃

In the summer we always have a county fair & there is always a Greek stand. They have amazing Gyro salads!! I always get one. After I agonize over how to province Gyro for at least 20 minutes!! 😂😂 I always forget. 🤦🏻♀️
Hello I just watch your video and it happens to be a local. So I have to say that your video in general is very good. But an advice for you try to ask local people about where to eat because then you will get the real greek food experience.Just keep that in mind and keep up with the good work.
Appreciate the comment Giannis but this is much easier said than done. We can't just walk up to a random person on the street especially with a big camera in our hands. Whenever we do end up talking to locals (usually they are people working at cafes, restaurants etc ) we do ask for local tips. - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers Yes that's true but speaking about greek culture it's veeeery easy to talk to someone about food(we love to talk about it)...it's just a tip for your next trip anywhere in Greece!
The best gyro for me in the city was Steki and Special for sure. If you want something different Auvgustinos has unbelievable Doneir or however you say it lol it's an absolute must with yogurt not tzatziki and add chili sauce and boom. Across the street is an awsome steak and cheese spot as well. A friend of mine has a phenomenal restaurant called the mint onion in English of course lol. They have amazing kontosouvli and kebabs to die for.
Love your videos guys. Hope you enjoy yourselves. Just a little comment regarding the fries on the gyro. True authentic way we usually eat it "forbids" to add fries in the gyro as is messes up the balance of all the other flavors. Obviously anyone is free to enjoy it any way they want weather this means adding fries, sauce instead of tzatziki or putting lettuce inside. Even Greeks tend to do these "monstrosities" (to my everlasting shame my girlfriend eats it with only fries and sauce which forces me to deny that I have any ties with this girl when we order together). Hope you have fun on your trip and eat many many more gyros (with fries or not ;) )
Thanks for the great explanation Dimitrios. We're always curious how locals do it and by the sounds of it it's a 'free for all'. In the end we did enjoy it without fries the most 😋 - Trevor
Nice vid. Visit Rhodos every year. Dont know any of your places. But our favorite Gyros places ar pita fan, has more places over the island. Pita time, is in the town of ialyssos. And a place we dont know the name. But its located in the town called Masari. Mostly locals eat there. Not tourist.

Greetings from Greece! Honestly, you should be testing pita souvlaki rather than gyros. I feel like Gyros is very well known internationally, but within Greece souvlakia is actually much more popular. The difference being that Gyros is cooked with gas or electric heating... while souvlakia is grilled over coals while continuously basted with olive oil and lemon. Its much smokier and imho tastier than Gyros which gets most of its flavor through spices only.

The first pita is made only in Rhodes and the other islands that are near. They are thinner and crispier than other pitas and are called Lathopites(λαδόπιτες). When locals go to buy souvlaki they are asked if they want regular pita or Lathopita.

I am Greek and I live in Athenium Riviera suburbs for this reason I know so much thing about this!!😉
@@freedom6227 I am also Greek (yes from Thessaloniki) so.. just admit that there is no sense in calling pita gyros a souvlaki... And it is better not to confuse the travelers, because that's the case only for Athens and not the rest of the country!
@@Stef.stefii It's not just Athens. Most islands in the Cyclades also call them souvlaki. I call it a souvlaki when referring to the wrap in general, and when I want to order, I say either pitta gyro or pitta kalamaki (kotopoulo or xoirino) depending on what I want to have. I have never heard anyone say pitta souvlaki when they want to order the skewer instead of the gyro.
@@DelightfulTravellers In Rhodes town "Stavlos" has really good souvlaki (not gyros). "Steki"s gyros is one of the most known in town ( not a favourite, but I can see why many people love it). Also in town, Avgoustinos and Psitopolis are really known (the second one with really nice quality but not in the center). If you are out of town, you can find really good food at the west side of the island (the east side is too overpriced and bad quality because of tourism)...
Adding fries is a new thing, and I don't think it is a good thing. They are good to have on the side, but not in the pita because they displace the amount of meat in it. I always thought that a gyro had to have some amount of lamb in it, but I may be wrong. I am always wary of any shop that uses electric shavers on the meat as it indicates McJob employees who don't care about the quality of what they are serving. I like your video style. And I do agree with other commentors who extol the virtues of souvlaki and traditional pita.
I want to say I agree because I never had a thin one until that specific one. Now... that's my favourite as the bread doesn't compete with the other flavours. It compliments them - Trevor
I am so upset Trevor. You have corrupted Anna to eat more meat and she is not a meat eater. I am eating yellow squash, zucchini and a green pepper with mustard again for breakfast. I will eat enough for the both of us Anna. What an evil person Trevor is. You are going to make Anna gain weight and then she will have to exercise twice as hard as a man to get it off. Bad Trevor, Bad. :-) A stupid commercial came up right at your hand slap out and had to wait for after it. Now that I am on 2 new medications that cause weight gain, now I will have to be even more strict and very little fruit or raisins or oatmeal. Such is life for a skinny old man. Thanks for another escape.
haha yes John she's coming to the dark side and we are both gaining weight don't worry lol. We're going to have to change up the diets soon as our clothes are getting tight 😳Thanks for watching as always - Trevor

As you already know, I really enjoy your travel videos, and especially this series on Greece, as it’s my favourite location in Europe. However, I have to say...that I am always rather disappointed (and shocked) when I see nice young folks (such as yourselves)...promoting meat consumption at a time in our human history when we should, (as a species) be moving away from this and following a plant-based diet, for many logical reasons. I have always felt, as a conscientious, longtime, world traveller myself...that it is our moral duty to preserve the environment, and to spread the mindset of “do no harm” at all times. Are you two actually aware of the inherent horrendous animal exploitation, cruelty, pain, suffering & slaughter involved in the global animal farming industries...and the terrible, negative impacts that it is having upon the planet? IF not, I kindly suggest that you watch the incredible new documentary videos: Dominion, Cowspiracy, The Game Changers, Dairy is Scary, etc. in order to learn just how savage and cruel the meat industry truly is...and how it is completely depleting many of our natural resources and literally destroying our Mother Earth. My Greek wife and I couldn’t even watch this video simply because we have both been meat-free, vegan, etc since the late 1960’s and we find the entire subject so repugnant. How can anyone eat meat and not care more about the dead animal itself...it seems such a lack of compassion-empathy. Today, there is so much absolutely amazing plant based cuisine readily available...and most of it is traditional recipes that have existed for centuries....especially in the Eastern Mediterranean, Israel, and South India regions. There is zero need to consume animal products. A plant based diet is the only way forward for our species...IF we intend on living on this planet long term. We simply cannot sustain the meat & dairy industries for very much longer. Our oceans are also now almost depleted, etc, etc. Not to mention the huge health benefits it brings, especially with regard to cardiovascular fitness and maintenance, etc. ...and besides, we have no right to murder 110 Billion land animals...and 1-2 Trillion marine life....every single year...simply to satisfy a primitive addiction to flesh. Remember, the life of any sentient, living, feeling creature is far more important than your desire to eat it. Compassion and kindness is the only enlightened, advanced, intelligent, way forward. Just telling it like it is. 😎🌴🇮🇱👍✡️⛱☀️

@@freedom6227 I am also Greek (yes from Thessaloniki) so.. just admit that there is no sense in calling pita gyros a souvlaki... And it is better not to confuse the travelers, because that's the case only for Athens and not the rest of the country!
It can be souvlaki or gyros
@@Stef.stefii It's not just Athens. Most islands in the Cyclades also call them souvlaki. I call it a souvlaki when referring to the wrap in general, and when I want to order, I say either pitta gyro or pitta kalamaki (kotopoulo or xoirino) depending on what I want to have. I have never heard anyone say pitta souvlaki when they want to order the skewer instead of the gyro.
The first is like a tortilla, not the fluffy pita
🌴🌴🇬🇷❤️🇬🇷❤️🌴🌴
so jealous. Canadian gyro's just dont cut it!
Supoose to be made with Beef and Lamb .
they shouldn't put chips in the wrap, Best souvlaki is at Savvas in Athens.
The first place didn't - Trevor
Stolen From Turkish Doner. nice job!
Well, as a local, I have to tell you that you went to the worst places to get gyros/souvlaki😂
Then make sure to leave a comment on where the best are for others - Anna
We're on the fence about fries in there as well now. We ended up liking the first one with fries the most. Who knew! - Trevor
👨🍳
The first pita bread you taste don't seem like a "legit" classic Greek one. Too thin.
I want to say I agree because I never had a thin one until that specific one. Now... that's my favourite as the bread doesn't compete with the other flavours. It compliments them - Trevor
greek döner haha
You should aim to eat at least 2 a day
I am so upset Trevor.
Anna is a natural beauty. As long as she s healthy she can gain weight:-)
@@krystam5674 I never said she was ordinary or average. She is a redhead with freckles. They are very special and rare. Trevor is fortunate. I did not say she should be skinny or thin like me. I am extreme all my life.
Well....to me the first one looked better... .😊
Someone knows there food! Bang on Bunts! - Trevor

AND YOUR TASTE IS... WHAT?

There are Turkish foods!🤦🏻♂️
Yum! Will you go to Malta any time soon?
Not sure 😃It's on our list though. Have you been Annie? - Trevor
Delightful Travellers yes I have- this past June. It’s a must go!!!!
