Great timing thank you ... i had just received a new hammer in the post to replace my old broken one ... i was able to use the packing polystyrene to fix my old hammer, threw the new one in the bin as it was no longer needed ... awesome.

Even in your home or garage, working around possessions, home furnishings, friends, and family, you are just one swing away from catastrophe. For the price of a commercially purchased handle, you have just transferred your liability to a well-insured company that must meet product liability standards.
A new hammer handle $12.
A sketchy repair and the handle breaks and smashes you in the teeth = $2200 in dental bills.

First, all you really need is a pole connector (a two ended threaded screw). You can also use a little epoxy to Strengthen the connection. And you have to be careful to align the opposing holes. But by the time the joint sets and is ready for use it is much simpler to put on a new handle. As most carpenters, blacksmiths, etc would do.

Thanks for posting this fix. However as mentioned by others I would prefer just obtaining a new handle at a local hardware store. Also this fix removes about 4-5 cm of hammering leverage. Finally breathing petrol and foam fumes does not seem very wise.

@Inventor K, I respect your interest to post creative DIY repairs. My salute on your efforts. There is just a principle that certain items should not be repaired and re-used as they can lead to dangerous consequences for the users. Eg hammer handle, knife handle, saw handle, foot of chair etc. All these magic repairs using super glue and styrofoam or melting down plastic cable ties are great to repair broken plastic surface which pose no danger if the repair fails. All the best.

Finally ! I broke my hammer 13 years ago , but just this last month I repaired it with this video ! Only cost me 10 hours of work and 10 bucks for equipment. Lucky I didn’t waste time and money on a handle 😂😂😂😂😂😂😢

I can see the sense in the video telling us how good the adhesive is but I think you used the wrong guinea-pig as a hammer shaft could be renewed in a very short time and since you used a bolt to join the two half's then any adhesive would have done, try it on a different subject.

Using this idea to fix a hammer is hugely impractical however the idea itself could but used for other repairs.

It's a heck of a lot easier to replace the handle rather than go through all that trouble to repair the broken one.
I have several ball peen hammers of different sizes,
but I don't use them for driving

It's took long time b4you fixed it and you have 2buy bolt for me just took a hardwood and make another1much easier and much stronger than the original handle

@@magnumkgb1766 нормальная отдача, для 1,5 кг молотка. Мне же не ковать им) хотя и было дело, вот уж как 5лет как мделпл его на рмботе все не нарадвюсь что пошел на конкретные меры!
Я не люблю железные ручки, сделать черенок из доски старого поддона, делов то пол часа.
Из резины делай ручку,амортизация будет супер,но это в том случае если ты целыми днями долбишь молотком,а так ....можно и железную

i think you could learn alot more from a carpenter .for instance using correct wood saw not an engineers saw for metal ,and the other thing wow why didnt you put the handle back in the vise when drilling .a little slip and youll have a hole in your hand...if this is on your video what else are you doing wrong

I think the fix is more so a teaching of how broken wood in general can be securely bonded than it is the salvaging of a broken hammer handle.
in germany, we call such solutions:

Vielleicht sind Baumärkte in Russland im moment nicht so gut bestückt, aus Gründen. Die Industrie hat wohl anderes zu tun als Hammerstiele für zivile Zwecke herzustellen, wer weiß ;)

I am assuming tools and handles are expensive or hard to find where you live. If so, good idea. I've got fiberglass or hickory replacements right down my street for a couple dollars.

Good grief! Just put a new, cheap handle on it, and get on with your life.
I was thinking the same thing. What a waste of time and materials.
Cheaper and quicker to make a new handle. You have to be spot on to drill those holes they have to be as accurate as for dowels otherwise your handle will end up like a dog's hind leg!
An elaborate procedure for emergencies. But not really economical and environmentally friendly. It would be better to get a new wooden handle.

The alignment of the two broken Hamme handle halves ---drilling each broken bit requires precision ---other wise joint will be crooked ! always!

О Боже! До чего же вы европейцы тугие! 😂 Я в школе на уроке труда, 4 урока(4часа ) молоток изготавливал, в возрасте 12 лет! Слава СССР!

Я слесарь, и во время учебы я тоже сам подтачивал головки молотков, но стандартные инструменты я до сих пор сам не делаю. А ремонтировать рукоятки молотков настолько бессмысленно, что вы никогда не получите той устойчивости, которую имеет неповрежденная рукоятка.
